The use of these will become more relevant later…

VB controller extension cable housings. REV1. Likely to be a few updates after the first prints come in.

Very interesting! I know where you are going with this, but who would have ever guessed there would be a development in the VB community requiring extension cords?!?! I love that this is a no donor design!

Oooooooh!

1. What are you using for contacts?
2. Will the models ever be downloadable?
3. Would you sell (parts for) individual connectors?

VB controller pins are d-sub pins. Yes I’m going to post all the design files. Not really interested in building 100 extension cables myself. Yes I could sell 3D printed parts if people want them. They’ll be cheaper if bulk buys are made. I’d probably do it once right at the beginning and then after that people can get them themselves.

Oh wow, this has me quite excited!

This will allow SNES to VB adapters to be made fairly easily as well.

Are these just standard “solder-cup” type pins? Male and female?

Yes I’m going to post all the design files.

That’s very generous! Do you think they’ll be printable on FDM? They won’t look as good, but I only need “functional”.

Yes solder cup. I’ll post a part number after it’s tested. First prints are on their way.

The Onyx prints I do are FDM just like for the link cable parts.

Now that the VB USB adapter parts came out successfully, I’ll have these new cable extension parts printed and tested. Picture of REV4 below.

Oh, I just assumed they were done on some kind of fancy SLS printer. I looked up Onyx, and it’s a nylon filament with bits of carbon fiber mixed in.

Have you tested any of your parts designed for Onyx in regular ABS or PLA, to see if they still function properly? I’m mostly concerned about little locking tabs and things not being flexible enough, or the pins being too hard to insert.

I have a little piece of black nylon I bought as a test, but I haven’t installed my all-metal hot-end, yet, so I can’t try it out. Some of these would be a good use for it, if I have enough.

The reason for the onyx is the strength of the thinner pieces of the parts. You can try regular abs prints but may not come out strong enough. Covers would be fine.

I did try SLS. Finer features but not as good as Onyx. Also did SLA. Spent lots of time and money up front on link cable parts testing.

First test prints. The one that looks like a VB USB controller adapter is fine. Its not too surprising since I’ve done that before. The other end needs some tweaks. Going to adjust and do another test print.

In general the centers are printing quite nicely.

Updates made and another test print order just went out.

OK, maybe one more print. REV7 parts going out for a test print.

Here are the extension cable models. They’ll be updated in the model section here on PlanetVB as well.

They fit well into the Nintendo parts. They fit very tight into each other when printed in FDM. I’m guessing if printed in SLA they’ll not be as tight. I’ll let other people experiment.

These are the DB pins the models were designed for as well. Both male and female. You’ll want to trim the pins a bit. And be careful they can be very very sharp after being cut.

Female: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDG0KI4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Male: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDFJFD6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And designed for this diameter DB9 cable.

Have fun!

I’m going to do a small run of extension cables (7ft) and should have 3 left over, send me an email at sales@tinkerplunk.com if anyone is interested in one, I’m thinking $20-25 but not sure yet.

Thanks mellott124 for the design and hard work!

Cool! Glad they’ll be available for people.

All gone! If these turn out well I’ll do more; I’ll just take reservations until I get 5-10.

I’d love one if you are still making any
