How necessary are the dust covers for virtual boy games? I have one game that’s missing it’s cover, but I keep that one in the VB so no dust gets in. However, I’m looking at buying a game that will be missing it’s cover and I was wondering how necessary they are? Will they get damaged without it? Or are they sturdy, like SNES games, that don’t really need the dust cover and still work years later.

most of my games do not have dust covers and they play just fine. if you are worried about it, store them in a box, package, bag, etc. a quick spray of some compressed air will solve any issues before you plug it into the vb.

i went to a local thrift shop and picked up a used camcorder for $9. it came inside a retro looking hard shell case. i ripped out the interior and now store my virtual boy and games in there. my goal is to eventually find the correct type of foam to place inside so that i can cut out the shapes i need to make it a complete case.

my point is, you can probably find a similar way to store your vb and games, away from dust, for under $10.

LOL! you have got to be kidding me. I’ve been looking for a year. I tried every local place (clothing district, manufacturing district, electronic places, shipping warehouses, etc, etc, etc..) and no one had the right kind of foam!!

I do need it thicker than 3 inches. Is it possible to glue or adhere two blocks of foam together?

I see they have custom cases, but I’m not sure how I would go about that. I don’t have the skills to make a usable template for them.

Glue should be sufficient to make a thicker block. Also bear in mind that you may want multiple foam pieces, one to cradle the stuff in and one to place over the top.
