My uncle has a Mario game for the VB and I was wondering, does anyone know how he got it? It is a white label that reads “VBSMB” and when you stick it into the VB it is a cool super mario like game, when I go over there again (which should be sometime in june as i have to wait till summer before i go out of state to see him again) i’ll take pictures and record gameplay footage. He bought it at a garage sale in 97 or 98 and I was also wondering What do you think its valued as?

Is there a possibility that this is a prototype of VB Mario Land? The only reason I’m thinking this is because of the white label and lack of a better name than VBSMB…

Because if it is… 😯

Anyways, if it IS a prototype, it would really be priceless. That kind of thing is really rare. There may only be one or two copies in existence. Of course, I may just be shooting off my mouth here – Mario like gameplay also kind of describes Mario Clash.

This is just a curious question… Is there any way to contact your uncle now? Is it possible that he could get pictures? I hope I’m not making a TOTAL fool of myself but I would like to see this Mario game…

Well if this isn’t either made up, or just a misunderstanding, then that’d be totally cool… and no offense, but you’re a new member posting about a super-rare proto that everyone hopes is out there, but none are known outside of Nintendo. There have been plenty of hoaxes and people claiming to have “seen” them, but the best we’ve gotten are some fakes that look like: http://www.virtual-boy.org/unreleased.htm .

If you’re not making this up, did the game look like: http://www.virtual-boy.org/vbmarioland.htm ? And what did the cart itself look like? You should get your uncle to take pics and sell it on ebay, or send it to you or something.

As far as value goes… if the game is actually a complete game and not just a single level I’d say it’s worth several thousand $$$. If it’s just a very short demo I’d say it’s still worth over $1000, but much less than if it’s a whole game. I really doubt that they actually completed the game though, I’m assuming they made enough of a demo to show at tradeshows and that’s it.

I do hope this is real. Anyway, if this is real, is there any chance of PVB acquiring it and creating a ROM dump?

No I can’t get ahold of him, well I can but he wont be home till next month, and I can’t personally go to his place as he lives in las vegas, nevada and I live in the east of texas.
yeah, some anyway, I dunno if its a full game or not I didn’t play it all the way through, my cousin introduced me to carmageddon(or however you spell it) and as I was young and foolish I didn’t think much of it till recently when i started collecting rare video game consoles and games, I have 22(american) consoles and hundreds of games. I’ll try to ask him about it and get more info, I know its special as he has the cartridge in a sefety deposite box most of the time, but he has a brain tumor and should be dead soon(yeah it sounds harsh) and I know he’s leaving it to me, so i’ll get it within the year either before or after I visit. he’s also leaving me his oil company and 8 million when he dies since i’m the only one “worthy of” his fortune, he can’t trust his kids as his son is a deadbeat who blows his money on booze and women, and cars, and his daughter is in a cult and is likely to give everything to it. and when I receive this inheritance I am to open a videogame museum. which i hope everyone will come see it ^_^

hm, then you’ll have enough money to not mind dumping and releasing it, right? πŸ˜‰

So your millionaire oil company owning uncle goes to garage sales???

Yes, he goes to garage sales just to search for Virtual Boy prototypes…

i wouldn’t mind at all, and yeah he is as curious as i when it comes to garage sales, he found a bracelet with a few nice red stones and it was an antique of some sort, it turned out the bracelet was worth 8.5 million, those red stones were red diamonds, he also bought a 200 year old throne from some european country, we all thought it was just a badass chair till he did research on it after getting it apraised

It does sound a little to good to be true to be honest. Maybe it’s just extraordinary.

the whole story sounded nice until the words “garage sale” fell, then it became way too cliche for my taste. πŸ˜› i’d say YOU’LL NEVER FIND ANY VB PROTOTYPES AT A GARAGE SALE. NEVER EVER. FULL STOP., but then on the other hand my vue debugger was found at a second hand electronics store by the original owner. at least that was his story. well, you never know. :O

any news on this?

Not yet, he is going to return soon due to complications of his health, so i’ll talk to him when he gets in.

ok, this just seems very interesting.

hmm well

I agree with Robert Molander πŸ˜›

So, my dad’s brother’s friend works at Nintendo as Head Game Tester and he says that if you beat Mario Kart on the SNES with a combined time of exactly 27 minutes and 59 seconds with Koopa Troopa in mini mode with the Super Scope plugged in, you get to play a bonus game where you play as Bowser in his clownship and shoot at the other racers! I’m serious!

He also knows the way out of the Minus world, I’ve seen him do it! Honest!

Dude! WTH!

Don’t be an idiot! >:(

I think he was joking. At least, I hope so πŸ™‚

i know he was joking, it was not very good timing. Also it wasn’t a good joke.

I hope it is vb mario land.
