Here’s VBDE 1.0.1, with an updated default editor that now comes pre-configured with several useful plugins. I also added a new button for starting Reality Boy in debug mode.

This release includes v4.0 beta 2 of the VBJaEngine and its Barebone and Platformer Demo, which saw a huge update since the initial release in November. This time I’m posting some binaries of the Platformer Demo as well so you can more easily check out what the engine is capable of. Enjoy!

My son and I loved this little game. It’s about as good as any VB homebrew sans HF it’s a nice little game. πŸ™‚

I am glad you like it so much, Morintari, thanks for the feedback!

Jorge and I have tweaked the demo a bit more in the meantime and fixed some little bugs, so I have replaced the ROMs with newer ones. If anyone finds any more bugs, please let us now. πŸ™‚

Hmm, anyone else getting a black screen after the language select? I tried different languages but just get a black screen on hardware. Unless I somehow did some horribly wrong…

Hi speedyink, thanks for the feedback.

I’m not doing debugging on hardware just yet (because I get obsessed with improving the performance and there are still some features to implement and a few bugs to fix on the emus). Maybe KR155E has tested it but didn’t want to share the bad news πŸ˜›

For the moment, the engine is meant to run bug free (minus some graphical glitches related to layers’ sorting) on Reality Boy, next will be Mednafen, and finally on hardware.

Ahhh, thanks for clarifying, Jorge. The picture looks very promising! I look forward to playing it on my Virtual Boy one day πŸ™‚

What on earth do you do inside the castle to get past the lava? Once you get so far you can’t go any futher!
Also How da heck do you get to the key? Tried it all and can’t get to the key!

Morintari:

The demo currently ends in the tower. I should’ve place an “Under Construction” sign on the first floor, as Jorge suggested. πŸ˜€

As for the key, there might be a hidden door nearby that leads to it. πŸ™‚ The key does not have any function yet, though. Eventually, it will be needed to open the door to the tower.
