I am really wondering that after all those years the Nintendo 3DS is available and wide open for homebrew there is still no proper VB Emulator available.
Technicalwise at least the New 3DS should have enough power for this. The 3D Screen with 400(800)x240 is more than enough. There wont be any scaling needed. We have also enough buttons at hand. Just the layout is different.
While the VB library is quite small, it got some very nice games like Wario World or Teleroboxer which alone deserve the emulator.

More and more Virtual Boys will bite the dust and the overall 3D experience on the 3DS is much better.
A proper emulator will let many VB Games really rise and shine.

Also not many notice this but many companies including Nintendo act themself only if the emulator and homebrew community did something first. It was the same with NES games on the GBA or other emulating matters. The VB had a quite bad past and Nintendo won’t release any VB games on Virtual Console if there was no proper emulator done by the community before.

Also such a VB emu would have several benefits. Much more people would be able to try the many VB homebrew games around the world in 3D without a real VB.

Is there nobody out there trying to make a clean and fluid port of the Mednafen VB emu?

“the overall 3D experience on the 3DS is much better.”

More portable, but I don’t think much better. The VB has a much larger viewing area, and the immersion is way better. The 3DS is just more portable.

@LesterKnight ah cool, didnt know about it. But sadly the last update was in 2015 🙁
Also they always talk about fps but at how much fps the did VB run? I just read about 50Hz. Is 50Hz = 50fps?

@speedyink

The 3D effect on the VB never worked for me very good.
It was always more 2D for me. I have to say that I am shortsided on one eye. When the 3DS came out, I was very worried that I wont be able to see the 3D effect like on the VB. It was not the case. The 3D effect was very good even for me. With the new 3DS and the eye tracking, it got even better. When the 3DS was new, I created some 3D MPO pictures from several Virtual boy games in order to see how it would look like on a real 3DS. Already there I could see that it would work much better for me on 3DS.
The MPOs are here on the forum btw.
I am no programmer but if I would be one, that would be my project 😀 A good portion of the available VB games AND most of the impressive homebrew just deserve a proper and alternative way to be played and I think the 3DS is it.

That’s very strange you get better 3D effect from the 3DS than the VB, as it’s the opposite for me! I would have thought what you thought, which is the 3DS not working for your eyes, but glad to hear you can view 3D on something!

I agree that VB games would be great on the 3DS, I don’t think there’s a better way to play a 3D game that’s truly portable. I just like the strengths the VB has, which some of the games use to their advantage. Mainly the total immersion and the 3D effect works very well for me.
