A while back I bought some paper work from an ex employee of Nintendo of America. A few sheets had some mention of virtual boy. Here are some quick pics that I took with my phone. A lot of these pictures are only of the title page of a packet stapled together. If there is any interest in using any of this for the site, I’d be happy to put the time in to scan all of them. Let me know what you think.

If you click on the “thumbnail” of each photo, they will be properly displayed right side up. Not sure why they posted on there sides.

Absolutely loving those scans, great stuff there!

The Hardware Fact Sheet is so bizarre. Only 400 NES games as of 12/31/94? It should be close to 677 games, the total number of licensed NES cartridges. Also, Game Boy is a 4-bit handheld portable? What?

If you want to, great! Otherwise, these photos are already very clear. Thanks for sharing!

I thought the same thing. The Z80 workalike at the heart of the Game Boy is still very much an 8-bit machine as its predecessors. Sounds like somebody got fed info from a non-technical person. 😉

I remember thinking as a (very young) kid that since the Game Boy was only shades of gray, it must only be half as powerful as the NES, which I knew was 8-bit… so by kid logic, it must only be 4-bit!

Back on topic, though – scans like these are endlessly fascinating to me. It’s like 90s Nintendo was a totally different company, riding high and confident they could do no wrong.
