I don’t own a 3DS so I have little knowledge of its eShop games but I heard from a friend that a game called Mutant Mudds (from the eShop) has a bonus level that is in tribute to the Virtual Boy; he says it is like a (fittingly red/black) platformer for the VB

Anyone in the PVB community play this game?

I just bought it before reading this. I’m known to take quite a while with games though, so it may be awhile before I can give impressions on it.

I haven’t played VB since shortly after it came out (I’m getting a new one but it hasn’t arrived yet), but Mutant Mudds reminds me of what I remember Wario Land for VB being like. I’m not completely sure it deserves the praise it has been getting but I do like it quite a bit after playing through 5 or 6 levels.

I just downloaded the demo version from the US eShop and spotted a small red vector like doorway in one of the levels they give you, then remembered this post, managed to get to the door and yay it is a full on VB type level, all red and black.
I’m sure there are some photos online somewhere by now.
Still its cool to play in 3D in red and black on the handheld.

I just bought Mutants Mudds.

I only finished the 1st level and it look a little bit like VB Wario Land because there is 3 plans of depth and you can jump between them. It’s coool 🙂

There is one wrap zone by level. And each wrap zone is named by the color of the level design.
For example, g-land= gray land and the main color of the level is gray.
The R-ZONE is named the V-LAND like virtual land, and the level is in red 😉

The turning rock, one the middle left, look like those on virtual wario land !

Nice shots from your XL there.
I have the demo on mine and played that V level in it, it certainly is cool to play a red n black 3d visual on the new generation.

That is awesome. It looks like a true tribute to Virtual Boy Wario Land, then. I’m glad Nintendo hasn’t totally disowned the coolest system that ever came from them.

I hope to re-release the old good VB games in VC,is it shame to re-release ???

I found and play the V-Land stage at demo,it was nice.

Mutant Mudds is a great, great game – one of my 3DS favorites. There are some really fun little gems on the eShop, if you can pick them out from amongst all the other garbage.

I found another tribute to the Virtual Boy within a game for the iPad called “Pix’n Love Rush.”

“As you fill bonus meters, the art style of the action changes. The pixels suddenly take on the appearances of the classic Game Boy, Virtual Boy, dedicated Pong machine, and more.”

I don’t know if this has something to do with the topic, but I got some days ago a Virtual Boy in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. 🙂 Here’s a screenshot :

Virtual Boy in Animal Crossing is cool. I hope it makes an appearance in the new 3DS game.

It is a screenshot from the new 3DS Animal Crossing game.

Cool! Did you buy it from one of the sellers on Yahoo Auctions Japan? There are a few listed for 200 yen each.

No, I got it from Nook’s store. There, you have a chance everyday to win Nintendo’s furnitures, like a Metroid, some Zelda clothes, or a Virtual Boy.
