Why not post some game ideas or ports for Virtual Boy?
The idea is to post modified images that are 3D versions of your game idea or of some other game you liked to see on the VB.

Here are 2 I’ve done. Cross your eyes to see the 3D πŸ˜€

Bah, cross-eyed 3D…I just can’t do it most of the time! (I can view other things like autostereograms with relative ease, though.)

Anyway, I think the one thing that the VB really needed was a FPS of some sort. It’s too bad that the device didn’t last long enough to have a Doom port released on it(or a certain other game that was slated to release in August of 1996, for that matter).

So open up Photoshop and make some 3D screens of Doom

First off, I don’t have Photoshop.

Second, I’d want to have 3D done the proper way, which would require a proper stereoscopic render mode rather than a hack-job from a 2D screenshot. Hopefully, a source port of some sort already has a stereoscopic rendering mode…

Well IIRC Doom uses a normal Raycaster engine, similar to Wolfenstein 3D and others… so by performing a raycast for each eye (from each eye’s position), that’d give you a true 3D Doom.

Actually to fake 3D images of 3D render games or that “2.5D” Doom raycasting you just have to take two screen shots from two points that are pretty close and point at the same point.(I tried this on the VR fake screen, but its not so easy with a racing game, in doom it is uber easy
(you could also use stereo quake, (there is also stereo quake III mod) http://www.stereo3d.com/quake.htm pretty fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FKvBzoQeWg

Btw, Dogp do you think the virtual boy has got enogh power to use a raycasting engine like in doom or in voxelengine(comanche, armored fist, etc…)?

The VB could definitely do a raycasting engine… Wolfenstein style w/ no problem, Doom should be doable… I don’t know about a voxel engine… I’ve never seen source code for one, so I dunno what’s really involved. I wouldn’t think it’d look very good w/ only 4 shades anyway though.

since the Competition is running now, somebody should take the Wolfenstein oder Doom source and make it for the VB.
This would be a awsome entry

Wolfenstein and DOOM on the VB would be THE coolest thing in the world in my opinion! Already made the box art for Wolf 3-D πŸ˜› http://www.vr32.de/modules/games/index.php?type=ideas&sec=main&id=8

Freakin’ love that old game! πŸ˜€

Until I got holidays and have time to learn coding πŸ˜€ Im practicing some pixel art. I still suck but this is one of my first tries. The sunset is not mine, i converted it from snatcher, I liked it ;).

Wowee wow, wow, wow That is really awesome! Please Make Wolf3D Pretty Please πŸ™‚

Is it just me who wants to see more sport games?

After playing some Doom a few days ago, i realized, that doom on VB could be a Problem. Technicialy it could work like DogP said but the GFX would need a complete Modification.
The Hunter Entry shows very well how 3D on VB looks.
Insmouse was a more or less 3D shooter. The walls have not much detail, not like Doom. Doom is also very dark so the textures would be need to be modified. Less Detail and brighter. Mhm, more like Doom on SNES…

Wolfenstein could be better for VB. The GFX is mostly bright and has less details. The Rooms are more simple than Doom.

Anyway, i would like to se one of this Games on VB. Both Games got Ports for almost every Sytsem. Doom even on a Calculator. Only VB is missing it.
