I did succeed in getting it to turn on once. A little more in for, I opened up the console this last weekend, discovered it was getting power periodically judging by the little internal red LED. The system wasn’t turning on but the light was. I noticed also that the light didnt always turn on. I tried multiple times inserting and removing the cartidge from the console. I sat down and inserted/removed a cartidge about 50+ times and the console turned on once, which makes me think perhaps this is an oxidation issue on the pins/contacts. I have not been able to get the console to turn on again with other games(or even the same game). I did also recheck the voltage out of the controller with a differe t set of batteries and was getting much closer to 9v like I might expect with 6 1.5v batteries. So I am still currently thinking its an issue at the cartidge connector. Any tips for cleaning the contacts?

So I tried a multi meter on my controller and the controller is providing power, about 5.5volts or so. Where do I go from here? Open it up? What could possibly have gone wrong? Does anyone offer repair services?

Man panic bomber is addictive! Played it a little too long last night, gave myself a headache. Haha ordered myself V-Tetris off eBay, wanted to get 3D Tetris but was more then I expected, this version will due till the right copy of 3D comes along at the right price, just need that, Nesters Funky Bowling and Teleroboxer to have all the US games!

No idea what happened but popped in a game and powered it on to check the points mentioned and I felt it vibrating, looking in the displays and it’s working! Nothing maybe something was loose, or perhaps popping in a cart did just enough to over come potential oxidation on the pins? Anyway glad it’s working again, gonna start fiddling with the other one now, going to work off the assumption that oxidation is the problem and insert and pull out a cart a hundred times or so. Lol.

Unrelated to power problems, but Amy suggestions on straightening out the eye shade? The new VB I have had a pretty mash up one, I have it pressed flat under a book right now as I had no other ideas.

Are the pins numbered on the circuit board? Will take it appart and poke around when I get home.

Alright so checking the power on the battery pack I get 9.43 volts(0 volts with switch off) and across 5 and 6 my volt meter showed 8.77 volts, so there is power. So what is the next step from here?

Thanks! Will check the controller over when I get home.

Definitely isn’t a dust cover stuck inside it lol. Would definitely appreciate help checking voltages, I have the tools to take it apart and a volt meter.

Contacts inside the pack are clean, I am careful to never store it with batteries in.

Okay, here are photos of the contacts on the controller and battery pack, they dont look rusted or to badly oxidized from what I can see. I didn’t take photos of both sides of the contacts on the controller or pack as they look identical in condition.

Okay, will take a photo of the connectors either later today or tomorrow. I tested both VBs with games inserted and fresh batteries, absolutely no sign of them getting power, no sound from the mirrors or from the speakers.

What is the best way to clean the contacts? And thanks, was really excited when I saw Jack Bros and Waterworld in the photo of their listing.

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead but I thought I should just post a final update. It took a long time due to shipping but my VB is finally back in working order and hopefully is for good now that both of its ribbon cables have been soldered onto the screens by TheForce81. I just want to say I highly highly highly recommend him for anyone looking for the same repair. Despite him being in the Netherlands shipping just the displays is really cheapHe went to great lengths to ensure I had 2 working screens. After they first arrived back to me after being repaired one of them must have been damaged from rough handling during shipping as it was still having issues so he had me send it back to him and he mailed me one of his own personal repaired displays that he knew was good so I wouldn’t have to wait forever. Shipping ended up taking crazy long due to the mail being well… the mail and it getting sent back to him after sitting around who knows where for a month. lol But in the end I got the display yesterday and just installed it and I am now pleased to say my VB is back in action.    Thanks again TheForce81!

… KoNeKo! Second place: Protoman85. Congrats! Please PM your shipping addresses to V. Jockey.

Explanation about the scoring: every judge submitted a scoring table, 7 points were given for first place, 1 for the last. Scores were then simply summed up. Here’s the full table:

1) 19 (6+7+6) KoNeKo
2) 18 (5+6+7) Protoman85
3) 17 (7+5+5) HorvatM
4) 11 (4+3+4) jzagal
5) 10 (3+4+3) bahooney
6) 5 (2+1+2) StealthNinjaScyther
6) 5 (1+2+2) akumie

I wanna say thank you to everybody who participated and for your submissions! Also to HonkeyKong and gunpeiyokoifan, whose submissions count unfortunately not be counted in due to missing ratings. And, of course, thank you to Virtual Jockey for holding this nice contest! 🙂

Aww no fair. 🙁 I have no way to rate any more games since I couldn’t get an emulator working nor could I even rate the copy of Galactic Pinball I just picked up due to my VB being out of commission at the momment. 🙁 Oh well. :/ Out of curiosity where would I have placed had I managed to get the 10 reviews I needed?

Found a TurboGrafx-16 at a garage sale today. Picked it up for $5. Also found a copy of Galactic Pinball for the VB at the same sale. 😀

Sure would love for somebody to win these games. 😕

I’m doing my best but I can’t figure out how to run the VB emulators, 😛 so I can’t review any other games to meet the requirements. 🙁

Just got a new console so I thought I’d update my list. Just received it in the mail today, a brand new still sealed in its box Atari Jaguar. 😀

Hah! Very cool!

BTW, requirement lowered to 10+ ratings. Don’t forget you can also rate homebrew games on the emulator. 🙂

Awesome! Looks like I need to look into figuring out emulation. Is it hard to set up and run? I’ve no experience with emulators beyond one I run for old MS-DOS games.

I don’t think the idea is too out there. I know that there has at least once(and I believe multiple times) has been a mini convention/get together for Atari Jaguar enthusiast and that console only sold a 3rd the units the VB did. Then again the Jag may possibly have a greater fan base then the VB but no way to really know. 😛

You could also do what I did. Just grind away with a dremel tool the material that prevents the bit from reaching the deepest screws. Its a better option IMO then to cut the bit in half and notch it to work with a screw driver.
