I doubt it, i think we are just dealing with an speculator, considering his text on ebay and his answers.

I have my doubts as well.

Well, I confronted him, he apologized for lying and tried to explain himself. He said he would donate the rest of the money to the faceball Fundraiser. Lets see if that’s going to happen.

I contacted the seller asking if it is a official release or a repro. Here is what he wrote:

Hi! Thanks for your interest in my item. I wrote you a huge message but Chrome decided to crash on me, so sorry if this message is shorter! 🙂 I purchased the cart off of an eBay seller a few months back and then I purchased the box/inserts from another seller shortly thereafter. I am not a huge collector but I wanted to try game out (as I have never played it on VB). I have never questioned its authenticity, the previous seller told me that it was a Japanese version cart that was translated to English in Japan. These carts were never sold here in the states but the dialogue is in English, which makes sense because the title screen has a few Japanese characters. I paid about $600 for the cart and the box combined, I was hoping to make a little bit of my money back but if someone else gets some enjoyment out of the game, I will sell it at a loss. Definitely a great one to add to your collection AND you don’t have to purchase it from a Japanese seller. Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Here is what I wrote back:
ahhh, so it is not the reproduction you can only buy on this store: http://www.uncletusk.com/node/212 for around $80? That is strange because the Box/Label clearly show it is from that site. It is even more surprising that you managed to buy the game from Japan a few months back as the shop started selling that game not even a month ago.

Reporting him would be appropriate.

That IS entirely possible, but 1) they ship from europe… 2) i do want originals.

You will manage to find some shops located in the USA that ship GameBoy inserts if you know how to operate google. For your convenience here is the first hit: http://www.videogameboxprotectors.com/#/store/4569532134 . They go for $0.47 each.

If you really want originals you will need to buy some cheap CiB games. Baseball sometimes goes for around 4$ – 10$ with the Box. You can donate the game to Minestorm and throw the rest away.

Anyone have some of the cardboard inserts that go into the boxes? I need 3.

I usually buy GameBoy inserts and cut/bend them to make a VB card fit into them. You can buy them here: http://www.gameprotecting.com/c-2005626/gameboy-inserts/

Wow… I almost thought this was legit for a moment. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Virtual-Boy-VB-SD-GUNDAM-DIMENSION-WAR-CIB-English-Version-/290960166135?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43be93ccf7

I really thought it might have been a repro, but was a little unsure. Then I read the description which describes it to be in English “as it would have been if it was released in the US/Canada”.

I never seen a repro like this though. Does the booklet have anything in it? and there is a TRANSLATED version of SD Gundam Dimension War? this is still pretty cool.

This is one of the reproductions sold by Tusk (http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5263&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0).

You can download the translation patch here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/games/?r011d

I can understand someone wants to sell it as it is not a very good game.

The seller does not really say that it is a reproduction. He kind of says that it isn’t a official release though. He also didn’t start with an insane high price so I would let him go.

looking forward to your upcoming releases!

I build the boards BTW.

Right now I have 100 x FaceBall re-mastered ready to send Eric.

After that, I’m going to build some English translated Space Squash boards (Ben sent me the final patched ROM yesterday).

Then, I’m going to need a rest from making repros for a while (to catch up on other stuff I make).

Thanks for the picture. This is great.

There have been allot of people been involved to make this possible.Great to see the final version online.

OK. I’ve sent everything out today.

I would use mednafen, I just don’t believe in multi-system emus. They’re always best at emulating one console, and I’d rather use different emus for the other ones. Plus it doesn’t have a gui.

It took me a very long time to get used to mednafen for the same reasons.

I will include the header files in the next version. Thunderstruck, do you know of a way to see how much of the 512 KB I’m using?

I can’t think of an easy way right now.

The actual fighting has not been implemented yet, so all you can do is walk, jump and punch at this point. Once I design all 8 characters, I’ll work on the actual fighting part.

I see. It looks already pretty cool. The character movement is quite smooth and the animations seem to work fine. I also looked into your code but I had problems reading it.

Is there a reason for not including all of the other header files? Without those I’m not able to build the code myself.

Thanks for fixing that page.
However, it doesn’t look like we can modify the controls screen, the character names on the VS screens, or the intro story, which was the same problem that “Feel” ran into. If you can figure that out, let us know.

Just in case someone finds this thread: I managed to translate the remaining screens and created a patch (http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/dl_attachment.php?attachid=1370174499&post_id=24718).

@Kr155e
: Could you update the patch in the SpaceSquash Download section.

Just wanted to let you know that I played the last version. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong though. My enemy would never attack me nor could I attack him. I was only able to move around and jump. Am I doing something wrong or is the actual fighting not implemented yet?

I was looking through the site but could not find the BLOX manual. I didn’t get to buy Blox because I didn’t have the money, but is there a way so that non-buyers can get to see the manual that was made for Blox as well?

As far as I know the manual is not available. Tusk stated several times that he would publish the manual/box/label a while after the official release. However, so far this didn’t happen for any of his games so it might take a long time until the Blox manual is published.

I could provide you with some scans if I manage to find my scanner.

Oh. It must not work in reality boy.

Yeah, the sound emulation in reality boy is very bad. I spotted several bugs (apparently the sound registers are interpreted backwards) and stopped supporting it. If you run my rom in mednafen you should get a decent result. However, the best way to listen to it is always on hardware.

in3D wrote:
No it’s not in Kirby’s Adventure. What are the controls for this ROM you uploaded?

Just up and down on one of the d pads. Not sure what the default mapping in mednafen is.

in3D wrote:
I’m just using it to make music. It’s too bad none of the emulators available have good sound emulation. Maybe someone could combine the virtual boy sound generator with one of the available emus.

If you have a flashboy you can try it on hardware. I’m not a big Kirby fan so I don’t know if the king dedede theme is somewhere played in Kirby’s Adventure. However, here is some Kirby music which I just converted.

It worked! The output file plays a rudimentary rendering of King Dedede’s theme (That could be just because I only tested it in Mednafen and RB). This is cool. Now I just need to find the VB emu with the most accurate sound emulation. Nice artwork in the MIDI player, BTW. I love that show!

Great to hear someone is using it. Are you working on a game or just trying out stuff?

Unfortunately, from all the emulators mednafen seems to be most accurate in terms of sound. The new version of the midi converter is more advanced and makes allot of things easier. I still need to fix some things on a UI level though.
