Hiya. Been somewhat lurking around the place on-and-off for the last couple of years or so, always intending to sign up but never getting around to it. Then a friend pointed out a Wired article about Bound High repros, which made me check up on what was going on here and I see the whole CIB thing going on. Figured I’d better jump in on that action before it disappears π
So yeah. Not sure what made me decide to look in on the Virtual Boys at first, maybe just that I’d been piling up so many other Nintendo things that it’d be cool to be able to add one of those. Sat on eBay for a while checking out all the prices and trying to get a feel for what was good value and whatnot. I guess it was mainly since the Aussie dollar was nice and high compared to what it used to be, so all the US prices that were once so expensive were nice and reasonable, so it was a great time to dive in. Eventually spotted a unit that came in a Blockbuster case with six games and manuals for ~$300 or so and managed to take it out. Been in love ever since it arrived – though took a little effort to get working, with the glitchy display problem showing up on the right side.
Eventually ended up with a second unit, because I spotted another auction that came with nearly every US game cart-only (other than Golf, which I already had) for around about the same price, so leapt in figuring it’d be the best shot I’d have at getting Jack Bros and Waterworld for a non-ridiculous price.
I’ve done a few little VB projects along the way. Decided I had to build myself a power adapter, since none of my power packs fit the official adapter, and the only other choice is batteries. I think I came across someone else’s similar project on here actually, when trying to look up whether I could just attach a plug straight to the contacts on the controller or not. I forget though, would have to try and find it again. Also built myself an adjustable stand, also inspired by another project seen here, which used a desk lamp. Had to take a bit of a different approach with that one though.
I’d really love to do some programming for the VB at some point though. Haven’t really done anything in terms of games til this year, and don’t have the means to put anything on there (Flash Boy would be cool, vBoot even moreso…), but some day. In the meantime it can sit on that gigantic pile of Get Around To It that seems to endlessly accrue in the corner.
…Seems I’ve gone and rambled again. That tends to happen when I try to do things late at night. Umm. Hi π
Welcome and Merry Christmas. Happy to have you here. I’m a collector and player myself so I ended up with 2 of everything…..8 systems
The website is an amazing collection of resources, and the community is unbelievable.

Thanks for the warm welcome π Took a while to get back here, but the holiday season has a way of keeping you out and about. Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.

Hi!
Just wanted to say hello to everyone in the community!
I purchaised the VB unit and the Mario’s Tennis combo complete in box for 275$ + 60$ for shipping + 65 for taxes from ebay.. Originally bidded for working system and it turned out that the sender sent me wrong unit, with glitchy displays (I was extremely pissed that it turned out AFTER I paid 85 dollars for customs/taxes). But after that I contacted TheForce81 and those glitched displays are going to be fixed, I’m sure of it) Also purchased Vertical Force and V-Tetris about the same time when I bid for the console.
Also ordered a copy of Bound High from UncleTusk.
REALLY I’m so exited to play the VB games. Mainly it newer was brought to Europe by Nintendo. I have heard that VB games can grand pretty excelent 3D visuals when compared 3DS games π
Greetings, GreDe85! As the world’s only Virtual Boy community, we are quite active and welcome you!
If you need help with anything, go ahead and ask. Also, you can break into your VB to see if you can fix the displays with simple tape. I’ve done that on both of my units and they continue to work as new.
Yeah, tried the tape fixing before contactin TheForce81, but only got left display to work with my oven, dunno if it was becourse I’dont have the one with the fan like the everyone with the faqs and the tutorials π But even so I’m hopeful that TheForce81 can fix my VB displays to fully functional π
So, maybe it is ok to ask, if the FlashBoy Plus is still available? I’d like to know who still sells them?
I’m really intrested to collect the full set of the released commercial games for the Virtual Boy, but with the 1300$ price tag for US version of the Jack Bros.. really need to think about the priorities & such π
i’ve seen jack bros. sell on ebay for around $200-300 CIB. i’ve seen it unboxed go between $50-75.

MineStorm is the guy you want. Send him a PM and you can work out order/payment details. For a typical FlashBoy Plus the cost is $100 USD, which includes the USB cable and shipping.
He can’t spend all his time making FlashBoys, but he’s very reliable and he’ll get it done for you sooner or later. Just let him know and the two of you can work out the details.
MineStorms Flashboys ROCK, I have mine and they are a MUST for the SERIOUS VB collector I HIGHLY recommend them.I was lucky enough to get a 3d printed one AWESOME.:) >B

I recently bought one of the nicest Jack Bros. CIBs recently seen and it was $450 — the price was high, but the box is immaculate. It was the last cartridge I needed for my complete US collection, which I’ve also now completed in box. π I received Space Pinball the day after I took the below picture, heh.
Or do you mean you want to collect a fully sealed collection? I understand the appeal, but at the same time you can’t play the games, which is half the fun!
Collection for the VB is easy to do and excellent, you’ve just gotta be willing to spend a few dollars. Everything except Virtual Bowling and Lab seem to be available regularly.

Agreed – if you want to collect sealed you really need to get two copies of everything. Of course now with the flashboy you could get around that if you don’t mind loading the games as you want to play them.
