With Nintendo putting Earthbound on Virtual Console later this year, finally turning the corner on that subject. Do you think they’ll ever put Wario Land or any other 1st party VB games on 3DS someday? I think they should have by now but I’m biased. If they ever did a Miiverse on 3DS, people could pester them like the Wii U Miiverse did with Earthbound. They re release everything else from Nintendo a million times but never anything they “fail” at. Still no N64dd or Satellaview stuff. I had to buy mine just to play those platforms, I’d rather give Nintendo my Money then some guy on ebay jacking up the price!

Man, as awesome as it would be to play Wario Land on the 3DS… I doubt they will end up putting them on there, very sadly.

I just think Nintendo will feel it’s not worth the effort and time. The Virtual Boy is very niche and not as well remembered compared to NES, GB and others, and combine that with the very few games it has, means it’s a small pool of games for a small pool of players… not exactly something I imagine a company would like to put resources into. :\

Though I could be wrong (I hope!), Nintendo does tend to throw a lot of curve balls after all!

As soon as we can load homebrew on the thing, there will be Virtual Boy on 3DS.

I sincerely hope they do, but I think the amount of time to do it versus the projected return means they probably won’t.

I can’t imagine it’s all *that* complicated to write an emulator that can make use of the 3DS’ native 3D screen. That would be the *perfect* use for it, in my mind.

A games analyst suggested that maybe Nintendo would make more games along these lines rather than re-release them via Virtual Console. Think: Wario 2 rather than the original.

It would be so much cooler if they’d put out VB games on the system, though.

It’s not gonna happen in the US but maybe in Japan?

NoA president has stated that he doesn’t even know what it is, and highly doubts it would sell; so it will not be making an appearance in the states.

Sadly, this will only happen once the 3DS is hacked. Miyamoto said in an interview that it would be possible, but due to time, cost, and efforts required, we will never see it on an official basis.

I think they would sell rather well on the e-shop, especially if they are priced right. There are a handful of VB games that are actually very good, and would appeal to new gamers as well as old schoolers like myslef.

Also, for them to ever release VB games, would also be showing the public one of their past “Failures”, and Nintendo’s pride/ego are way to BIG to allow that to happen.

The red/black would also be an issue for most, so it really is unlikely, and without a HUGE push or want from the gaming community, I’m sure it will never happen(at least officially, Wink, Wink). LOL

Wario2… including the original Wario for vb 🙂

I gave up on hoping that VB games will officially make it to the 3DS a while ago. I could imagine they are doing a 3D remake of Wario like they did with other games like Excite Bikes and Kid Ikarus. In the end it is a solid game and would even be better in full color.

Still, I doubt it will ever happen. Then again, I also though there would never be a re-release of Earthbound.

when i was researching for my VB review, i read a story that Gunpei Yokoi was shamed for more than a year after its release. They all saw it as a failure and would purposely make him demo it to executives to embarrass him. As much as it is asked, I do not think Nintendo will ever release VB games on the 3DS.

however, a company recently published a video of a 1:1 3ds game clone that can boot ROMs off a msd card. there are also known exploits for the 3ds, none of which have been published. it isn’t a matter of if we will see a VB emu, its more like when.

If there would be a good coder available with a bit time we could make that happen now…
Any questions on that? PM 😉

I don’t know about you guys, but I have a VB in my closet all boxed up. As much as I would like to play new demos and games its a pain to dig through, take it out, and set it up all the time.

Anyway, what I’m getting at is that I WISH this would happen. VB games NEED 3DS hardware badly. There will be so much rejoicing when this happens. It’ll just be 1000 times easier to put games on a micro sd and load them up.

In the end I think it’ll actually make the VB more popular as there was always this negative stigma against the VB and thus many people never got to try it. It was way too ahead of its time and it never got a chance. This would be that second chance.

I am actually against re-releasing VB games as I have stated it would kill collectability!

No it wouldn’t. Physical copies (on cartridges) would still be just as rare. And you can already download ROM images of VB games, though the legality of this is questionable.

like i said, an emulator is possible already, we just need a coder (c,c++) who is able to program/port such a emulator.

there is currently no publicly known way to execute homebrew code on the 3ds. rumored unreleased hacks exist but there is no sdk or 3ds tools at all. so my question is how are you going to get the code to run in 3ds-mode?

I actually think it would have the opposite effect, and the collect-ability would only go up. This would introduce a whole new group of people to the VB, and many would like to enjoy the VB as it was originally intended.

Like others have said, all the games are already available in rom form, so I don’t see how releasing them on the 3DS would ever hurt the collectors market as it currently exists.

The first 3ds linker will be available very very soon:

I believe a VB emulator will be released in 2014.

This wont enable Homebrew at all. All it does is Playing retail games, so its most likely just for piracy.

It is a 1:1 cartridge emulator. It is the same team behind the Crown 3DS. They originally built a clone of Splinter Cell and were unable to meet their deadline to make it run other ROMs. The name of their team and product became intertwined with conspiracy and illegitimacy. Eventually they figured out how to build an adapter between the chip and the microSD card. They changed their name (we know this because the same person registered both domains, among other info that has surfaced) and marketed the Gateway 3DS.

The Gateway 3DS can run 1 game at a time. Each game must be on its own microSD card, sized larger than the actual ROM. There will be no loader of any kind. The device does not allow developers to sign their own code, which means there will never be Homebrew of any sort with this solution. The device is also region locked, as the 3DS will read it as an actual game cart. This means you will not be able to play any 3DS game hacks, translations, or ROMs from other regions. Gateway 3DS themselves recommends that you do not play online games. So far there is no evidence that Nintendo can block 3DS systems from going online, but they were able to do it with the Wii.

This is 100% a device for piracy on the 3DS and has absolutely no other usage. Priced at $80.

thanks for all that informations! I was interested on that product, now i’m not.. If this can’t support homebrew games it’s not for me..

I would like VB games on 3DS. I sold my VB collection not because it wasn’t fun, but it was a pain to use, as well as battery life.
