Hi all,
just finished the cart 3D model, couple of renders enclosed, if anyone would like a mesh model etc pm me and I’ll convert and send to you.
The easm file is viewable solidworks model, viewer is free from Solidworks site.

It’s… perfect.

I think the distance from the middle knob to where the slant starts looks a little short on the inside, the groove where it says Virtual Boy a little to wide and the letters of the text slightly too high… But all those are really the same thing.

Other than that – beautiful!

The one with the most money send it in to a manufacturer and get it done for real…

You could be right i measured it kind of quick, part of it could be just how the ‘shell’ operation worked out for that part, it would offset by the same amount on all surfaces and that is probably not how the plastic molded.

I am hoping i can maybe get one machined up in clear acrylic, the machining marks can be ‘flame’ polished out, a blow torch gently melts the machined surface and returns it to smooth & clear, thats the theory and in the very small trial i did it worked about 75-80%, just got to be carefull with the flame distance and time held.

I was also hoping to try acrylic (if I can find a piece with the right dimensions) but I was going to use my heavy-duty heat gun to “flame-polish” it. If you have or can get one of those, it might be easier to control. Also, I’ve heard that, to prevent warping, you can cool the back of the piece you’re polishing, so only the surface to be polished gets heated.

Looking forward to seeing the first homemade Virtual Boy cartridge shell ever made…
