I also wonder… it’s more to write when you need to enter the address manually…

EDIT: Didn’t see the news until now. Some people needs change all the time, usually girls…
But, as it’s not a commercial site – or is it – shouldn’t it have an .org-address?

Why not one more (!) address?
I’ll use “vr32.de” in the future, too.

Chris was able to buy an additional address because so many users donate so much money, I think.

πŸ˜€

I bought mine for about €10, so registering the domain name is usually not that expensive. πŸ˜‰

Pretty cool! You donate 10 Euros to PVB – enough for the new domain.
Well done!

You too…

Everyone that likes this forum should donate something.

It’s only 12 EUR a year for a .com domain at my hoster. But the donations definitely helped, thanks again!

.com adresses don’t really stand for commercial sites anymore, that classification is long obsolete. Instead, they are THE international domain in people’s minds, while .de most likely sounds weird first to the most people. If you’re new to one site and not used to the domain, which sounds better? bg28.ch or gameboyland.com? (Just a random example, not sure if these sites really exist.)

I hope that, with the new domain, the site is more attractive to new people, maybe even ranks better on US Google due to the international domain. Also, so many people talk about the site as “VR32” instead of “PVB”, “Planet VB” or “Planet Virtual Boy”. Hopefully, there won’t be any more confusion now.

Actually, I really wanted pvb.com for the shortness, but it’s blocked by some f***ing domain reseller. Although I hate that type of business and don’t want to support it by buying domains, I still tried to contact them several times, but got no responses. I guess my offers were too low. πŸ™

So planetvb.com ist a good and cheap alternative, IMO, keeping in mind that we already had that domain years ago as a second domain but lost it.

vr32.de is the second hit after Wikipedia with Google when searching for “virtual boy”…

I don’t see the problem, who really cares about top domains?

Yes, you are right. But in this example the new domain is:
“gbland.com”!

The real home of this side should be
“planetvirtualboy.com”
or maybe better “planet-virtual-boy.com”

Both domains are still available…

Most people? πŸ™‚ It’s what represents the site, an important part of a site’s identity.

Right. Then again, these are too long. πŸ˜‰

pvb.com would be so perfect. πŸ™

Yes? Perfect like “gbl.com” ?

πŸ˜€

If you are not familiar with all this, pvb sounds like vr32 to me. It’s telling nothing.

Perfect in terms of the shortest possible .com domain, which is close to the site name. “PVB” is how I refer to this site most of the times.

pvb.com expires 30-jan-2012 be sure to grab it if you can. πŸ˜‰

I wrote a formal message to “netgears” and asked about it, we’ll see if I get an answer.

A company in Kuala Lumpur has vr32.com …

I think it’s hard to get a three-letter .com-adress, those that aren’t already taken are registered by others that hope to make money from selling them expensive sometime.

p-vb.com is available.

Close enough to the wished domain?

I really like this alternative! Guess I need to be a donor soon πŸ˜›

We really should discuss these things before you go and swap domain like that… πŸ˜‰

Sorry, but I don’t think so.
Chris: feel free to rename this domain as you like it – we will follow you πŸ˜‰

Sorry, e5frog, I don’t think so either.

Running a site like this requires making difficult, but necessary decisions from time to time.

You, the community, are what makes this site so special and are my motivator for working so much on the site, and I always try to involve you guys as much as possible, try to hear all wishes and so on. But people’s opinions are very different, and if I always made a poll or something, we won’t progress anywhere.

Think of the site redesign in December. It wasn’t easy to drop the old look, and many people had a lot to complain, while many others were very happy with the change. After all, it was absolutely necessary and now, after some months, I am sure it was a very good decision.

The domain change was no easy decision as well. I struggled with it for years actually and I am not entirely sure if it works out right. But I think it was the right move.

Changes are never easy, we struggle with them by nature, and normally it takes a while to accept those, but when you do, you’ll often see that they were for good.

The site content is what matters IMO, the look of it is an added bonus & the name kinda negligable.
You do a great job Krisse both with your programming and investigation into all things VB that come your way. So long as people find the site and the info they are after then job done and much gratitude to you.

Whatever you want to call this, we’ll be there eager for the next new screen shot from Barbie goes Virtual, oh damn i just leaked next weeks top news……..

I also love reading the random rambling of my fellow VB freaks, this is the best community i have encountered.

p-vb.com is available.

Dashes in URLs are just ugly and also inconvenient to type.

It was a joke, hence the πŸ˜‰ after my statement.
