Think of the site redesign in December. It wasn’t easy to drop the old look, and many people had a lot to complain, while many others were very happy with the change. After all, it was absolutely necessary and now, after some months, I am sure it was a very good decision.

I still disagree about the site redesign… the giant header is way too big, and all the wasted space on the side is… well… wasted.

Just wanted to make sure that you knew that my lack of complaining recently doesn’t mean my dislike went away πŸ˜‰ . But, it’s not gonna keep me from visiting the site. Nor would changing the name to thevirtualboyrocksbecauseitisamazinglyawesome.com . Changing it to hotdudeondudeaction.com may keep me away though πŸ˜€ .

I personally don’t have a problem with the big header, many sites require scrolling. However, having about half of my current screen space wasted seems unnecessary. I didn’t get my big screen so sites like these can appear higher than they are wide centerscreen…
It would be awesome if the site was just as wide as my screen would allow, 3/4th would be acceptable as well, but meh…

@Tauwasser:

I assume by “big screen” you mean “wide screen”. Why not just turn your screen 90 degrees and make it “tall” πŸ˜‰

But seriously, I pretty much agree with DogP; The new skin looks good, it’s not very practical, and it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Just keep the site going and you can make it look however you like, KR155E πŸ˜€

As for the URL, I hardly ever type it in, anyway, and I’ve already changed my bookmarks. I agree that it makes more sense than the old one, I just always liked the “secret-code-like” mystique it has :-D.

I don’t remember the former look of this side.
But the current design is pretty good – I like it!

No! No… please don’t. πŸ˜‰

Funny how the domain name change gets this much response lol. At least everyone is honest and still respectful, that shows how good the VB community is!

I’m new here so I can’t really comment on the old site because I never experienced it. As a designer, I feel this site works just fine. There are no issues at all with the layout design and the deep header (phnarr!) works well to accommodate the VB head unit and title graphics for the site. The main thing for a site like this is that it navigates clearly and cleanly…and this site does that with no problems at all. Well, certainly not any that I can find.

Much respect to Kr155e for managing all this on his own time and as far as the domain name change goes … what was the question?

Maybe you didn’t get what I was saying, but the site is already taller than wide, without a 90Β° turn. So no need to πŸ˜‰ here.

I agree, the title could be a bit smaller. Other than that, the only real problem is that it scrolls too slowly, at least with Opera (version 9.21).

Umm… that was my point. A tall, skinny site on a tall, skinny screen equals less wasted space, correct?

I’ve never had any slow scrolling problem. Do you have “Smooth Scrolling” turned on? Maybe you should upgrade. I’ve had no problems so far using 10.10 (and my PC is far from the latest model…).

The only problems I’ve had with the site stem from my choice of a larger font. KR155E, like most web designers, can’t accommodate very large font sizes in their designs, mainly due to the use of bitmap images and the limitations of CSS and varying browser support and interpretation of it.

If SVG support (of which Opera was a pioneer ;-)) and use increases, that would probably solve the problem, although many “bitmappy” effects are pretty hard to do with vectors…

Let me guess… you’re a Firefox user? πŸ™‚

Anyways, with smooth scrolling on or off, it redraws too slowly.

Yeah, and right now I’m hijacking my own thread. How cool is that?
