Hey,

I’m planning on repairing 10 or so of my own VB systems in a few weeks, so I figured I’d see if anyone’s looking to get their displays fixed, while I’m doing mine. I’m offering a one-time deal to solder them for free… just pay shipping (if you send just the displays). If you want to ship the whole VB system, rather than just the displays, add $10 (US dollars) per system (and shipping will probably be higher).

Terms:
-Limit 4 displays (2 systems) per person, and you must have been a member on this site with at least one post, before this posting. I’m looking to help out fellow VB fans keep their systems playing, not sellers looking to make more money by selling working VBs.

-I’m limiting this offer to 40 displays (20 systems) total, at least initially… first to PM get priority. While I wish I could fix every VB in the world, it does take time, and unfortunately, I can’t take a week off work to fix VBs. 😉

-I can’t guarantee that your displays will be repairable, though I have yet to come across a truly failed display that wasn’t damaged by misuse/botched repair attempts.

-They will be fully tested, but I can’t offer a warranty.

-Please pack them well… I will be reusing your packaging to send them back. For the return shipping cost, add $2 to what it cost to ship to me, to cover Paypal fees and possible slight difference in return shipping cost.

-The displays must arrive before May 18th. I will be repairing mine during that weekend, and while I have everything set up, and while I’m in VB repair mode, I’ll be doing all of them. That also means that they won’t be shipped back until after the 18th.

-I’m in the USA, though international is fine… of course shipping will be more expensive.

Here’s a pic of one of my own displays I repaired: .

Anyway… drop me a PM if you want in on this.

BTW, just to update… I pulled apart one of my systems that had a pretty noticable dark line. I swapped LED displays and the problem switched sides… then I cleaned the clear window on the LED display (just wiped it with my t-shirt and blew off dust/lint) and it looks perfect now.

So yeah… if you have dark lines, clean the window of the LED display.

I happen to live near DogP, and we hang out on occasion. He recently repaired the displays on all 3 of my VB displays, and I am quite the happy camper. Thanks, again, DogP!

The repaired screens arrived today, and I reassembled my spare VB. now I have two fully functioning VB’s! Excellent!

Thanks again, DogP!

Continuing the saga of the misaligned VB display, here’s what I’ve run into so far:

1. Using the Left, B, Down, A, UP test pattern, I was able to determine that my defective unit was very much out of alignment. The vertical bars were sitting atop the horizontal bar with room to spare. Yikes! No wonder my eyes hurt trying to use this thing!

2. Checking the Torx screws as DogP pointed out, they were still pretty solid. Adjusting them had little to no effect on what was going on.

3. It seems like the unit itself was, well, torqued. So, I torqued it back. Holding the insides of the unit in my hands and with the test pattern showing (which, by the way, is easiest to do from the title screen of Galactic Pinball in my opinion), I twisted the unit in my hands. The steel construction of the insides of the VB is similar enough to a computer case that I have a decent feel for the limits of what should and shouldn’t screw it up. A little bit of trial and error and I got the displays aligned quite good! The last step is to put the guts back into the housing and see if all is still well.

As a side note, I feel that I’m experiencing the slight expansion/correction of the displays on this unit, too. More testing required; maybe it needs to “warm up” for lack of a better term.
