is any one working on making the VB compatible w existing systems like the wii or even the N64 I think that this would be a great project to work on if it is even possible

Recently, a Virtual Boy emulator was released for the Wii: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4318&forum=1

morintari here, I am not talking about an emulator but a way to play Wii games on the virtual boy

??????? Ways top play 2011 games on a piece of 1995 hardware, if anyone can do this then they gotta have invented timetravel, sorry to state the bleeding obvious but c’mon think a little before posting.

LOL… I don’t think the Wii would be very graphically appealing in 4 shades of red.

Hedgetrimmer is right, you can’t play a 2011 (or 2007, 2008, 2009 or 2010) Wii game (or any game after 1995 for that matter) on a 1995 game console

If you want to play a game Virtual Boy-like that isn’t normally like that, you could take a SNES and a Super Gameboy and set the game colors to red and black (I’ve done this before)

Morintari again, Please I am not an engineer like yourself nor am I a programer I was not talking about the VB processing the polygons I was talking about the Wii processing the images and the Virtual Boy just displaying the objects in 3d I think that it is obvious that Nintendo is’nt doing anything with this technology and the tech really rocks come on there is nothing out on the market that can display 3d like the VB the lower res of the Wii could be dumbed down to fit on a VB screen if it was processed and even though it would only be in red and black it would be real true 3d but if it’s not a possability I understand

If you can figure out how to make the Wii display a stereoscopic image (meaning any game, not just a specific homebrew app that does it) it would be fairly simple to display the resulting images on the VB’s displays (given that you have enough money for the required hardware). The reverse has been done (displaying VB video on a TV/VGA monitor) and there is even an OpenGL-like system for rendering images on a PC and sending them to a VB through its link port. The problem is, there’s no global stereoscopic mode on the Wii (or any other system, AFAIK – the 3DS being one possible exception).

TL;DR: It’s economically infeasible, and pretty much pointless.

PS: punctuation was invented for a reason.

Now I get what you are thinking about, that top fella Runnerpack has answered you technically.
This kind of thing is way over my head.
I didn’t mean to be mean or anything like that, you just needed to be a little clearer on your thoughts (the way it was written made it sound like one of them ‘type, press send then think’, postings), I did have the almost exact same thought when i first got my VB, could a 3D movie be displayed using the VB, the answer is a very tentative yes, with a lot of work and probably frame rate drop.

It would be nice if it was done from PC to VB, especially since the Wii is only really there to provide the extra CPU/graphical power (and possibly the remote, but those can work on PCs too).

Thus, I imagine a PC-powered game that uses the VB screen could be very nice. But yeah, that’s pretty crazy stuff. I do wonder what that GL system is RunnerPack mentioned, though…

Morintari again, OK now I’m working on my Punctuation. I must say thanks Hedgetrimmer for your apology it is accepted. Now I feel like were getting somewhere with some real technical answers. As DaVince has stated (paraphased greatly) that I imagine a the Wii running through the pc and then the VB displaying the graphics. My question is now is there anyway to emulate a Wii through a pc and do it well I think that mabe the infomation could run through a system simular to the flashboy hooked up to the pc via usb and then displayed on the VB. by the way now that we have a developer that is willing to make professional accessories to the VB has he thought about making a link cable?

has he thought about making a link cable?

Useful link, project already sort of under way.

Click the link, click “Information” at the top, then click the first link. It’s all explained (in Spanglish ;-)). There are a few posts in the forum about getting this working, too. Just search on PVB for “veGL”.

PS: Good job on the punctuation, Morintari!

RunnerPack,
I am familiar with Alberto’s approach to a link cable I wish we could get Richard Hutchinson interested in providing a link cable that wasn’t homebrew. Also it seems that Alberto’s virtual-e project is just what I’m looking for to make the VB compatible with the Wii and other systems. On the Wii emulator can you run the virtual consoles as well? (Assuming that there is a Wii emulator?)

🙂

providing a link cable that wasn’t homebrew

No, Pat’s having the link cable professionally made.

BTW there’s nothing wrong with homebrew 😛

Thank you for the link, RunnerPack. That is more or less exactly what I was thinking: make the PC run the game, create a screen to render and send it to the VB. That way you could even create the most modern looking games and display it on a VB. Which would be funny but also pretty awesome!

the Wii running through the pc and then the VB displaying the graphics

Wait, this is even crazier. What involvement at all does the Wii have, here? Might as well dump the Wii and have the PC run the game and output it to the VB (as described above)…

You’re welcome. Yes, I had that idea even before I heard about Alberto and his project. I attempted to make a cable to try out the demo, but I think I used a different pinout (the LPT port has scads of practically identical pins) that I got from one of DogP’s link-port projects.

I think he means emulate the Wii on the PC (TMK, the only way to get stereoscopic output) and send the video through Alberto’s system to the VB. It could probably be done with a “veGL” video output plugin for Dolphin (but only for older versions, because 3.0 no longer has the plugin interface).

Morintari again,
I never said that there was anything wrong with the homebrew, it’s just hard for some of us that arn’t that savvy with Gorrilla glue and an X-acto knife. Anyway I contacted Alberto and he said it is possible to view the Wii on the VB using VEGL. The only problem is that the rendering is slow and He’s tryed compression techniques and he can’t seem to speed it up enough to play. So I e-mailed him and asked if it’s possible to play a game in wireframe to speed up the rendering. it will be interesting what he has to say. I also asked him is it possible to make an accessory like the Flashboy that plugs into the VB like a gamepak and through usb interface provides straight bandwith to the VB instead of going the route of the link cable? Ill keep you posted.
