Hello Planet Virtual Boy!!

I’m a long time lurker, but first time poster. 🙂

The struggle has been real in trying to obtain a CIB version of all the Virtual Boy games. I’m extremely envious of all of you that have a complete set!!
(I just recently got that ever evasive Blockbuster Mario Tennis Box!! That completes my NA Official release set!)

This last year at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, I happened to stumble across the SD Gundam reproduction. Of course, without hesitation I purchased it! Having this now made me want an NA/English box version of all the remaining Japanese games.

I tried searching around to see if anyone had already done so, but couldn’t find anything… SO I’ve taken it upon myself to do it!

I currently aim to do the following:
– Virtual Fishing [ (!) ]
– Insmouse No Yakata [ (!) ]
– Space Invaders
– Virtual Bowling
– Virtual Lab
– V-Tetris

Here is a link to a preview of the completed ones so far!

I even made cart labels for these as well! 🙂

Unfortunately, I have no means or even knowledge in getting it printed. Last time I went to a print shop to get something printed for another project… they yelled at me for trying to abuse copyright or something… T_T

None the less, I wanted to share these with you guys and join the community! 🙂

Enjoy!

(P.S. : These boxes are based on the Virtual League Baseball box. It was the only extra I had that I was willing to flatten and scan as reference. Hehe.)

Thread resurrection!!

It’s been awhile, but I’ve finally finished the Virtual Lab manual!
I took a few creative liberties with it since the original version is vertical…

Now all that’s left is the manual for Innsmouth and V-Tetris.

I have an idea for something else Virtual Boy related that I think I might tackle first. 🙂

(P.S. Everything I’ve done on this thread is in the hands of the great Tusk. Waiting for the hopes of one day these coming to life!)

Nice job!

Out of curiosity, did you use my original translations for the story or the separate translations that got posted here:

http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=34546#forumpost34546

I was thinking of comparing and contrasting the two sometime, creating a revised version, and then probably having an expert in Japanese review the results, but I haven’t gotten around to that yet. It might be good to have that happen before Tusk prints off “official” copies.

I’ve used your translations for the base of all of these. (Unless you didn’t do something… like the speech bubbles… then I just ask my friend in Japan or use the google translate phone app)

But, I rewrite all of them in someway that I personally feel sounds better or more localized.
Here is what I wrote the story to be:

In the year 2095, on a planet far from Earth, a research and development facility was built. Known as the Virtual Lab Research Institute, it became the number one hub where scientists went to study. The head of the institute, Dr. Katagiri, was currently examining the ecology of a unique organism called “Mu.”

“Ha, ha, ha!… Once I announce the discovery of this organism at the upcoming
conference, my fame and recognition will reach a whole new level! …But first, I could use a nap.”
While the doctor was napping in his office, his assistant came barging in panicking.
“Dr. Katagiri, wake up! There’s an emergency!!”
In a daze, he got up and rushed to the laboratory. Upon entering, they noticed that the room temperature regulation unit had failed. With the increase in temperature, the “Mu” had begun to proliferate rapidly.

“Oh no!… This is terrible! Ken, you mustn’t mention this to anyone. If this news were to spread, it would tarnish my great reputation! Now if you’ll excuse me, I think there’s a good hiding spot in my office.”
“What? Wait!… What should I do with these?” said Ken.
“Lisa will be back from school soon; we’ll leave it to her. She’ll think of something!” Katagiri said as he ran from the lab.
“That’s a horrible idea, Doctor!” said Ken as he followed Dr. Katagiri, who was already no longer visible.

When Lisa arrived at the laboratory, there was an unusual sight as she opened the doors. The strange “Mu” organisms were covering the room from wall to wall.
“What are these?” she said.
“Are these the organisms my father has been studying?”
Lisa couldn’t see her father or anyone else in the room. As she turned away to run she noticed a note on the back of the door. It was from Dr. Katagiri. Written on the note was the cause of the situation and a solution.
Note in hand, Lisa slowly turned back to see the “Mu’s” continuously replicating.

And now… V-Tetris manual is completed!!! 😀

With this completed the light at the end of the project’s tunnel grows brighter! All that remains now is spooky monster house! 😛

Gaaaah!

…And now I’m back… from outta’ space! 😀

A little over a year ago I started this project to bring the remaining six Japanese exclusive Virtual Boy games to a US CIB state… and with this upload we’re now one step closer!

Innsmouth Mansion manual is done!!

To recap the status:

(PS… if you haven’t bought a Virtual Fishing… GO DO IT!! There’s only 1 left!)

This is such awesome work, dude! I love how you added your own flair to it as well. So much passion was put into this, you can tell. Thank you for sharing this with us 🙂

These three games won’t need any work done on the ROMs, as virtually all the text in the games is in English already, and whenever there is Japanese text, there is corresponding English text on the same screen.

Perfect! I was pretty certain they didn’t have any after playing them, but wasn’t sure if maybe there was some screen that is just hard to reach. 🙂

Thanks Ben!

Absolutely fantastic work. Any hint on when we may see the next CIB title for sale? Would hate to miss it.

Thank you!

I can’t give you a an exact date, simply because I don’t know. But, one of them is currently underway! 😀

I’ll ask Tusk if he would be willing to post it’s availability a couple days prior to it’s sell though. 🙂

Great work. If possible, do you think you could make scans to be printed out to fit into DS cases?

Perhaps sometime down the line. 🙂
Still have a lot of other things to continue working on.
Sorry!

I know Virtual Lab already has English-ish text next to all the Japanese next, but I thought it might look more like an official US release if it had the following suggested changes. 🙂

I tried to utilize only the font that’s already in the game. Hopefully that makes it “easier” to do.

Here are the only changes needed for Space Invaders!
Again, I tried to utilize mainly the in game font to hopefully make it easier.

Lastly, my suggested changes for Innsmouth Mansion. 🙂

Would you happen to have an english translation shot of the controls page out of the Space Invaders Virtual Collection manual?

I’m trying to make sure I have the correct idea behind the controls. TYIA

Here’s a link to my original English manual:

http://www.planetvb.com/content/manuals/pdf/sp_usa_trans_im.pdf

All of my original ones can be found under the “Manuals” tab for each relevant game.

Hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for. 🙂
Looking forward to the next video!
