Hello,

I am not sure if this has been asked before…and I didn´t find anything specific on it yet.

Has anyone had troubles aligning the two displays again?
How is that done? I haven´t found a procedure on my search.

Just curios about that, since there´s only one possibly way to re-install the screens (e.g. after a repair). So I am not sure if that ever happens…

Anyone?

are you talking about the IPD slider? or do you mean that you bumped the mirrors or something? i haven’t taken my vb apart so i’m a bit confused as to what you are experiencing.

if you are talking about the IPD slider, it is never perfect for me. i can’t get both sides to be perfectly in focus but that never affects gameplay for me. i’m sure the issue has to do with my eye sight and my corrective lenses.

Have you tried letting the system auto align them for you?

To quote another site:

“put any game in the Virtual Boy, turn your VB on, and when the game is on the title screen press: LEFT(on the right side of the control pad), B, DOWN(on the right side of the control pad), A, UP(on the right side of the control pad). If you did this correct any healthy(read: well functioning) Virtual Boy will show a screen with one horizontal line and two separate vertical lines crossing eachother.”

And I don´t mean the IPD – that´s self explanatory from the manual.

Afaik there is no “auto alignment”, the mirrors and screens will have to be aligned manually.

So is there anybody here to shed light on this? I´d like to know if somebody did this by himself.

Do you have a problem with a misaligned display, or are you just concerned that they may become misaligned if you ever repair the display cables?

If it’s the former, you’ll need to describe the actual problem you’re having in more detail. It would help if you could take a few photos of the display hardware.

If it’s the latter, you don’t really need to worry. The only things that need to be removed to do the fix are the display PCBs. They’re held on with two screws and there is only one way they can go on. There are registration pins to prevent misalignment, and the rest of the optical system is unaffected by the removal/reinstallation, as long as you don’t take them out with a hammer or crowbar 😉

The galvanometers (mirrors) and the focus/IPD system is actually very robust. As long as no attempt is made to force it into a position it wasn’t designed for, it should need no manual realignment. Also, having made a fairly thorough study of the insides, I’m of the opinion that any drop or impact hard enough to affect the optical system would most likely damage other components, as well. Such a mistreated system would probably best be used for spare-parts.

I hope that helps. If not, try to clarify your question/problem.

I was just concerned about them getting misaligned some day…but your answer cleared up any issues. Thanks for the info!
