So I wanted to get a second virtual boy for future modding and link cable shenanigans. I managed to get a cheap head unit online with a beat up shell which I attempted to paint (very poorly I might add).

The unit was also given a custom 3d printed stand so it was compatible with a tripod I picked up from a goodwill.

Lessons learned:
1. just because you can fix virtual boys does not mean you know how to paint one well

2. use multiple thin coats of spray paint and sand more before spraying the initial primer.

3. be careful with the LED ribbon cables as I had to re-repair them after accidentally pulling too hard on them when trying to place the whole unit back in the shell

That’s a cool mod 🙂

Thanks! Hopefully when I have more time I can try stripping the paint and doing a better job the second time.

Nice work on the stand, much better than the original.

Love it! The white makes it look super clean and “Apple-ish”. That adapter for the tripods is a god send. I picked one up a couple years ago while I didn’t have a good replacement for my Virtual Girl.

Very nice! I like the contrast and the buttons on the controller really make this feel official. Where did you find the 3D print files for the tripod stand at?

Thanks! As for the tripod adapter I actually just got the tripod first and made the file myself. If anyone wants the file I attached it below, but it’s a pretty atypical stand compared to the standard flat plate – screw in tripod stands.
