I recently wrote Nintendo in regards to a few proposals about resources they currently have but do not utilize.

Letter to Nintendo:
Dear Nintendo Team,

I am curious to know if you have considered the following resources within your company. All proposals are for your benefit within your company and I have no relation with Nintendo other than being a fan since childhood.

1. Officially releasing the unreleased but completed beta of “Star Fox 2” on WiiWare. Very soon it will be the 20th anniversary of Star Fox and I believe that it would be a great way to honor the fans.

2. Best of Virtual Boy for the Nintendo 3DS. 3ds downloadable games are popular and inexpensive to host. It should be simple to port or emulate one virtual boy display to the Nintendo 3Ds and apply the 3D technology. We all know Virtual boy was not a commercial success but you have 14 games that could potentially make a profit and give new life to those lost games.

3. Smart phones & tablet devices are part of the competition in the handheld game market. Many companies like Sega and Capcom are making profits releasing there older games and new ones on portable devices and game clients like steam. I am wondering why you have continued to dodge this market but I am even more curious why you haven’t at least given it a test run with old arcade classics like Donkey Kong or Defender.

In closing I want to see Nintendo around for years to come.

Sincerely,
!@#$%^&*

Nintendo Response:

Hello !@#$%^&*,

Thanks for letting us know what you would like to see added to the Nintendo eShop and the Virtual Console. These are all very good suggestions, so I’m happy to forward your comments to the appropriate people so that your feedback will be heard. While I can’t guarantee these games will be added, we take all feedback into consideration.

Also, I completely understand why you think making software for smart phones and tablets would be a smart move for us to make. We’ve found, however, that by having our developers focus solely on maximizing the power and capabilities of our own systems, they can create the best gaming experiences. Our game development will continue to exclusively support Nintendo hardware.

Jason Smith

I’m surprised they even bothered to reply and didn’t just say “no”. It would be great if VB games were rereleased for the 3DS, even though I don’t have one, because it would generate more interest for the VB, and VB games never got the large audience they deserved.

Regarding point 3, I think the main reason why people buy Nintendo consoles is to play their games, so it makes sense that they don’t release games for their competitors’ hardware.

Yes they partnered up with DeNa – but it’s not games per se – more applications with some engaging content. It’s been on the cards for some time.
