I didn’t watch the episode but I heard that just recently, History Channel’s show “Pawn Stars” featured a Virtual Boy in it… did anyone here watch this? (I hear some guy on the show complained about it but it still is interesting the VB makes small appearances on TV that aren’t related to the 3DS)

I saw it and I’m going to record it for the site the next time it’s on TV.

I was watching and was flipping out. It was in-box with the stand, controller, Mario’s Tennis, and the AC adapter. They talked about how it was short-lived and how it was the first “3D video game console”. The guy asked for $200 for it, but they offered him $80 and he took the deal. They probably looked up what it was worth before they saw it because $80 is near the going price.

They showed some of the graphics from the console, and it obviously had the lens issue, but I guess it wasn’t so bad that it wasn’t worth buying.

At the end of the episode, they had the old man play Mario’s Tennis, and he actually thought it was kind of cool.

Now that I’ve described the whole part of that to you ( πŸ˜› ), you can see it right here at 3:00 in: http://www.history.com/shows/pawn-stars/videos/pawn-stars-darth-pawn#pawn-stars-darth-pawn

Also, go to the end to watch where the old man plays with it.

Is the bit where he mentions that 500 brand new ones were found in a shipping container true? I don’t remember hearing about that and I’d imagine that would have been on kotaku or a similar site. Or did he just screw up the numbers and was infact talking about the 100 that where found in a warehouse in Dubai a few years back?

Actually, it was more like a hundred. It was in 2008 that 100 “brand-new” unopened and unused Nintendo Virtual Boys were found in Dubai.

Heh, a friend at work told me about this today as well… that’s pretty funny that they paid $80 for a broken VB :-P. It definitely has at least one bad display from watching the video. Of course it all depends how much you believe “reality” shows.

Y’mean, no you can’t be right, tv wouldn’t lie to us, would it? Surly its ‘as honest as a governement’, I think you will find thats a very common saying, especially here in the UK. πŸ˜€

Unforunately, the video is “not available in my area”. Not working through a proxy either.

Does someone have a chance to capture the VB scene off screen?

I have it, cut it to the relevance of the VB and it is 42 MB. Tell me how you want me to send it to you πŸ˜›

Great! πŸ˜€ It is too much data for the submission form as it seems, so could you please email it to chris[at]vr32[dot]de?

You have mail πŸ™‚

Nothing arrived. No idea why that failed… Could you please upload to megaupload.com?

Will do!

EDIT:
done! Available for everyone here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4OWHTZ40

Eww, WMV… πŸ˜›

heh, j/k, thanks for posting!

EDIT: Yikes… That was painful to watch, even compared to other History/Discovery/TLC “reality” shows πŸ˜›

Also, notice that they didn’t set the focus or IPD, and that the “token dumb guy” still wanted to keep playing, even with the glitchy screen!

I had to cringe when the monkey was trying to get the thing on the stand! Seriously?! Do you know you’re on NATIONAL TV, dude? 😯

Just uploaded the part on youtube

The best moment by far is when Taylor (the boy who is selling the VB) says who wants to play hours on the machine, Chumlee is like “I do” haha and then awkward silence

Yeah, the only one that says something true about the system is Chumlee that he wants to play the Virtual Boy. Hurts your eyes? Not mine. Can’t play it for more than 20 minutes? I can play it for 3 hours, haven’t tried longer πŸ˜›

No problem, glad I could finally contribute something to PVB, or don’t you consider this a contribution for the badge? πŸ˜€

Could not find the edit button so anyways not to be rude but the person who uploaded it on megauploads did not add the last part when the old man is playing the vb so after I found the video with the extra ending I decided to upload the whole thing to youtube
Enjoy πŸ™‚
