I didn’t watch the episode but I heard that just recently, History Channel’s show “Pawn Stars” featured a Virtual Boy in it… did anyone here watch this? (I hear some guy on the show complained about it but it still is interesting the VB makes small appearances on TV that aren’t related to the 3DS)

Like you said, the glitchy display can happen even when your gentle with the system, but in that guys case I think he was just rough and thats what caused it.

maybe it wasn’t glitching until he brought it over to the pawn shop… (ok, I’m going somewhat off-topic aren’t I?)

Maybe, but I personally don’t think so. Beacause he did seem awful rough with the system.

and no your not really going off-topic.

maybe he was rough because he gets shy around cameras and/or famous people? or time limits of TV shows?

also, maybe she didn’t actually find a problem with the system much but just wanted to get rid of it so she’d get extra cash and more attention 😐

I guess so.

lol at all the discussion about how horrible his girlfriend is. I’m 99% sure it is just a BS excuse that guys use all the time. Come on he owned 1 game and Mario Tennis at that.

All right, I don’t know if anyone else is still following this thread, but I needed to clear up a few things about my appearance.

First and foremost, I NEVER HANDLED MY SYSTEM ROUGHLY. EVER. I take extremely good care of everything I own, and the VB was no exception. It only looks like I’m setting it up roughly because of their editing and not showing the whole process.

YES, the system was glitching. This happens to ALL Virtual Boys eventually because they have notoriously-loose connectors. I’m not tech savvy, so I wasn’t going to rip it open and try to fix it on my own, or anything like that.

The story about unopened boxes of Virtual Boys being found is true. I’m not saying the numbers that Big Hoss gave are a hundred percent accurate, but the STORY is true to some degree.

I was lucky to get what I did for it given that the thing wasn’t working right.

And, the big thing – the “lose the girl or lose the system” thing was a throwaway line that wasn’t meant to be taken seriously! Seriously, does anyone on here watch the show regularly? It’s what EVERY GUY says that is selling something. There were more scenes filmed regarding this line (hell, it practically became a subplot) but that was the only reference that remained.

I also had no idea they were going to do the scene at the end with the Old Man playing the VB, a total surprise.

And on a slightly unrelated note, there were about 6 months between the time this was filmed and aired.

Ok then… I am just really touchy on subjects like that πŸ˜›

The line glitch thing makes the whole thing less fun, but they couldn’t tell the difference, because they probably hadn’t seen a VB before. The boy was lucky. 80$ for this would be kind of expensive, I wouldn’t pay more than 40$ for a VB with the line glitch, or I wouldn’t buy it.

This episode just aired in the UK last night, I came in late last night put TV on to wind down a bit and the ending was just there with the old man playing, so i sky+’ed it on the +1 channel and will view it all tonight.

I found where they (Gold and Silver Pawn Shop) just sold one in the hard case on eBay. The auction ended yesterday.

what is the episode called?

excuseme, but megaupload don’t work, now is closed, and the video in youtube was removed, you have another direction for wacht that video?

thank’s so much, i wacht the video and is cool, I don’t see still in tv, was a good price 80 VB whith box, don’t was?

I personally think that the $80.00 was a great deal, especially given the completeness (I saw the system’s instruction manual along with all original parts of the system, just didn’t see any wrappings, though) and the condition of the system’s box itself.

The posts on youtube about the shop getting a bad deal because the system showed glitchy lines are to be rejected. Anyone who has tried to fix his or her own Virtual Boy using the oven bake method knows that it is a very easy fix, without any soldering skills or other technical skills being needed. I used the oven bake method together with packing tape reinforcement on my system over 3 months ago, have since played the system for many more hours, and see no indication of having to repeat the oven bake method for a very long time, if ever, especially given how well the packing tape alone holds the cables to the PCBs once the displays are screwed back up against the plastic housing. Of course, I’m the only one who uses my system, and since my interpupillary distance never changes, I never touch the IPD Adjustment Dial, which might be why the oven bake method is more than sufficient for me. However, I’m sure that many others also have IPDs that never change and are also the only ones who ever use their systems, so that method should be cheap (all you might have to do is buy a special screw driver to remove the system’s screws), easy, and sufficient for them, too.
