I have integrated Marc Robledo’s Rom Patcher JS into the website. You’ll now find a button next to each patch download that allows you to directly apply the respective patch file to a game ROM file you supply. For example here, look for the yellow button for the “Save Support” patch on the left side.

There’s also a standalone version that allows you to select any patch from your hard drive or even create patches from modified ROM files. Try it at https://www.virtual-boy.com/patch/.

If you’ve followed along with my posts here or on the Discord the past few years, you might have noticed that I’m doing my best to post High Scores for all Virtual Boy games that have the option. I recently decided my next project would be playing 3-D Tetris, and I found some interesting things that weren’t covered by any of the existing FAQs or forum posts!

I believe I’m the first 3-D Tetris player to record a score of 200,000+ points on the mode “3-D Tetris – Type A” ‘Hard’ difficulty. I’m certainly the first to upload such a score to the site. MK scored 164000 several years ago to beat Ben’s score for the High Score Contest.

Upon clearing this 200k point hurdle (which I’ll admit would be pretty difficult for most players), you’re treated to a character that holds up a sign that says “GREAT!” across the top of the screen. The game continues as normal, but after you finally lose, the credits roll (credit to dudeway4 for taking a nice phone video). This credits sequence showed many of the characters/block formations that don’t appear to be used anywhere in any game mode you’ve played previously.

At the end of the credits sequence, a code is given to you called ‘Special Command’. After inputting the code on the home screen, you’ll hear a little jingle, but nothing special appears. Select “3-D Tetris – Type A” again and you are given two modes that now appear under ‘Hard’: ‘Special’ and ‘Extra’! Once unlocked, these High Score modes now appear within the High Score tab accessible on the main menu. I haven’t yet gone through and accounted for each individual character/block formation, but I’m almost certain that within these two secret modes are the last of the (thought to be unused) blocks that were previously thought to only exist in the back of the manual.

‘Special’ is a good deal more difficult than ‘Hard’, and ‘Extra’ is off the charts tough. I have not tested the ‘Extra’ mode enough, but I believe every single block character may appear in this mode. Please correct me if you feel I might be wrong.

The Select – L – Select – L code only works on carts/save files that have attained the 200k score on 3-D Tetris Type A – ‘Hard’. I have personally tested this on a cart with a dead battery.

With this new discovery, it seems there is a credits sequence for both 200k+ points of this 3-D Tetris Type A – ‘Hard’ and for completion of the Puzzle Mode!

I’ve spoken with KR155E and these 2 new High Score modes have been added to the site. Thanks, KR155E! I’d also like to thank dudeway4 for taking a nice quality video of the credits sequence on his phone.

EDIT (6/13/2025) – Upon reaching a High Score of 200,000+ points on 3-D Tetris Clear It! on ‘Hard’ difficulty, a character holding the sign with ‘GREAT’ shows up again. After you finally lose, you are shown the credits scene once more and given the “Special Command” code Select – B – Select – B. Enter this on the main menu (just as with the Type A code) and you have unlocked the ‘Special’ and ‘Extra’ difficulties for the Clear It! mode as well! KR155E has already added these High Score options to the site.

In late 2018, M.K. crowdfunded the development of a Virtual Boy Bomberman clone called “Bombenleger” as well as a Virtual Boy music tracker for Windows. While the game never materialized, copies of the tracker had been shared with a few backers in February 2020. Since, unfortunately, M.K. hasn’t been heard of again, for over 5 years now, I think it’s time to release what I have. Hoping that M.K. is alright and would be fine with this. Enjoy the VB Music Tracker!
