Here’s one link-marked with a bit more VB:ish feel.

It deserves a new label then… 😉
But perhaps two VB instead of the GameBoys…

Sure – if it happens. Now that there’s a link cable you can use.

Really nice of you!

Are there any links to the patching tool?

EDIT found one.

Custom made connectors – of course it’s going to be more expensive than your ordinary network cable or similar.

You need six conductors for the later description of the cable. So a USB 3.0 cable would have work, but my guess is that it would be even more expensive – the cable itself is probably not that expensive.
Then you have another two connectors that can mess things up.

Sounds like a bad idea to me.

DogP did a few years back.

Yes, it’s the link cable(s) that never happened, we know one was made at least, none were sold AFAIK – so that’s what I mean that there have been none available. So how could there “still be making” any if none was ever made to begin with?

There were big plans getting connector housings made professional (injection molding). Then nothing more happened, there was troubles with the USB version and then it got quiet. The maker himself haven’t been logged in for a year or so, email doesn’t work (last time I checked). So I guess something happened or more important things came in the way.

Nobody started making a USB one… Don’t know if there’s any software supporting it on the PC but it might be possible to hook up one of those USB COM-port TTL level cable… Prolific and similar…

Instead of this guessing competition for monetary impaired people, wouldn’t it be better to say something like “$35 and tip is allowed”.

I see this pattern emerging:

$25.10 – nope
$25.20 – nope
$25.30 …

etc

😉

Nice, did they print at better quality or did they polish it?

If you 3D print with ABS you can wipe it with or use an acetone fog to make the surface more smooth, other than that possibly sand it or sand it and paint it… 3D prints are a bit boring that way.

So I guess you should mark one end as master and the other slave, maybe with a piece of shrink tubing on one end or similar.

Are you also going to use pins from USB connectors or do you have some other source of connector pieces?

It seems the USB connection is what has delayed DogP for so many years, I’d be happy to get a USB version from him as well, should he turn up with a finished version any time in the future.

Project has been on since 2011, right?

Nothing has happened (been written here) for a looong loooong time, I think everyone interested in a cable is happy someone actually tries to do something.

Let’s just encourage this guy and see if it happens this time.

The Development wiki seems to have a well motivated pinout, the Workshop version (that I assume is an earlier version) clearly states with question marks that they are unsure of the pin’s functions and no claims are made that it’s the proper pinout.

The wiki version however “A properly built cable connects the output pin (6) of one VB to the input pin (5) of the other, leaving the unused pin on each side unconnected, as in the following diagram:”

I guess someone with edit rights should update the workshop version or link to the wiki version instead of having alternate and confusing information.

Nice to see someone picking it up. Looking at the cable pinout, if there are sync in/sync out on both ends, shouldn’t they be connected so that any unit can be the one sending the sync?

How many pieces of software are there currently that can use a link cable?

Sending PM…

Link project is dead, right?
Seemed promising with 3D printed contact housings and USB contact pins – looked really good.

Maybe someone else can take over – or re-make it?

Maybe with an FTDI chip in between and a server program on the PC like Kaillera and whatever they are called…

Being able to play a real VB over the net with other VB owners would be quite fantastic.

It may be cheaper to get finished connectors to steal the pins from than trying to get loose ones from a manufacturer.

For example a good price somewhere on a bunch of these:
http://www.parts-express.com/velleman-cc088b-usb-a-female-single-connector-180-degree-pcb-mount–320-248

From what I can read they aren’t 100% happy with the shell yet, it’s not just supposed to fit but hold up for multiple uses as well.

Meaningless…

What else can we do, an addition to Mozilla that shows all YouTube videos in red shades?
