After that there are no more VB motherboard connectors available.

I’ve gotten my last two jobs like this. One I worked for 7 years and the second one I’m still at for almost 10 years now. It shows passion outside of work. You can also talk in depth about it. Most job interviews are so boring that it at least changes things up and shows you have a drive beyond just collecting a check.

Maybe I’ve been using the wrong padder this whole time. I have one thats called Pad_VB.exe and it won’t pad up to 256Mbit on my machine. Says padding size is too large.

I was using Python the pad the files before burning them.

Updates made and another test print order just went out.

All the parts have come in to build and test this. Just minus the case. If all works out well then I’ll start on the case design.

First test prints. The one that looks like a VB USB controller adapter is fine. Its not too surprising since I’ve done that before. The other end needs some tweaks. Going to adjust and do another test print.

In general the centers are printing quite nicely.

Oh, I just assumed they were done on some kind of fancy SLS printer. I looked up Onyx, and it’s a nylon filament with bits of carbon fiber mixed in.

Have you tested any of your parts designed for Onyx in regular ABS or PLA, to see if they still function properly? I’m mostly concerned about little locking tabs and things not being flexible enough, or the pins being too hard to insert.

I have a little piece of black nylon I bought as a test, but I haven’t installed my all-metal hot-end, yet, so I can’t try it out. Some of these would be a good use for it, if I have enough.

The reason for the onyx is the strength of the thinner pieces of the parts. You can try regular abs prints but may not come out strong enough. Covers would be fine.

I did try SLS. Finer features but not as good as Onyx. Also did SLA. Spent lots of time and money up front on link cable parts testing.

Some excess material in a channel was causing the slight gap in the assembled unit in the picture above. Fixed now.

Now that the VB USB adapter parts came out successfully, I’ll have these new cable extension parts printed and tested. Picture of REV4 below.

It came out pretty nice. Fits nice and snug too.
Its carbon fiber FDM so very strong.

Model also attached.

Here’s the d-sub male pins used:

I trim the crimp end a bit on the d-sub pins. Be careful after trimming them as they can be razor sharp and cut you. They insert very tightly into the 3D printed connector as designed. Then bond the back with an epoxy to help them stay in place.

Yes solder cup. I’ll post a part number after it’s tested. First prints are on their way.

Don’t know of any emulator that implements linkport functionality. I have notes somewhere of someone building a new emulator and specifically adding linkport support but haven’t heard any updates in about a year.

This will allow SNES to VB adapters to be made fairly easily as well.

VB controller pins are d-sub pins. Yes I’m going to post all the design files. Not really interested in building 100 extension cables myself. Yes I could sell 3D printed parts if people want them. They’ll be cheaper if bulk buys are made. I’d probably do it once right at the beginning and then after that people can get them themselves.

And now the connector model. Once I’ve tested it and built some, I’ll post the model. Then the entire VB controller USB adapter can be built from new parts.
