It’s coming along great! I love how you used different shades of red to show the different shades in game. For the checkered base, I suggest using tape and use it as a stencil of sorts so you can get straight lines.
I’m so flattered that you have found the project so fun and inspirational
Just registered to say this: there’s no soldering of the ribbon cable required. There are two connectors: one for the provided ribbon cable that goes to the main board, and one for the original display’s ribbon cable.
The only soldering required is for the video output and palette switch (7 wires max.)
I’ll make that clearer on the page and the install manual soon.
Thanks for your interest in my work
Oh that’s fantastic! This makes it much more accessible to me with my soldering skills. I’m glad you finally joined the forum. Myself and many others on Twitter were hoping you would so you could talk about your work.
I wish I had the soldering skill to pull that off. I’d love a version of the home console VB that Furrtek made too. I can’t begin to imagine what a kit like that would cost.
To be honest I’ll likely do the black one this time around. Since Madmorda on Discord is making buttons I can turn my USB controller into the purple one after some research on the color. Pictures of that one are hard to come by in my experience.
Alrighty! Thanks to VirtuousRage I was able to get the font figured out. I just need to measure the size of the fonts and logo and send them into my buddy at the other end of town so he can print them.
You were spot on with the font! Thank you! One step closer to finishing this now! I like the purple but I’m not sure if the controller ever was in purple or if it was bad lighting in the pictures. I feel like purple clashes with red but it’s kinda cool that it does, too.
Thanks! I’m hoping I can at least clean up the image of the logo that I was able to find. Below is what I’ve been able to do so far using one of Benjamin Steven’s pictures. Once I figure out the color situation, I should have this project in full swing!
No worries! I’m just glad someone here had the talent and generosity to make share that fin t here for us. Since I can’t program I like to lend a hand where I can (like with images). I’m glad you liked my video too It’s not the highest quality but it’s good enough for people to get the idea.
For the print outs I used normal paper. Nothing fancy. As far as any other a Meebo, I haven’t started them yet. Right now I’m working on a custom virtual boy controller that looks like the prototype. I have the colored buttons but I still want to get the custom logo made to match the one on the real controller

Amiibos and Virtual Boy! Two of my favorite things. You did an amazing job it really looks fantastic. I had one quick question. I looked over the PSD files and it seems like I am missing a few of the fonts. I was able to find all of them except VirtualLogo. Do you have a pointer to that font or know of a suitable substitute I’d be forever grateful.

It’s superior, I’d like to own one. I’m sure many of us would.
I’m hoping Nintendo rereleases the Super Mario line of amiibo with the upcoming Super Mario Party. If they do I will be more than happy to make you guys customs! I can do them now but since the Wario amiibo is expensive on the second hand market, it gets costly to make
Thanks everyone! I’ve been given the idea by a few folks to turn it into a series where I make a “Virtual Boy line” of amiibo and make a Ryu for Hyper Fighting, Mario for Mario’s Tennis, Samus for Galactic Pinball, etc. I’ve been overwhelmed by positive responses by people in FB groups and on Twitter. I wish the VB got this much love outside of us fans
