The controller doesn’t run directly off of the battery. It’s powered from the 5V regulator, just like the rest of the system. I’m guessing the debugger has a mains PSU, so there should be no need for batteries (except, if they’re absent, it will trigger the “low bat” signal; which is another thing that needs to be debugged, after all).

Also, “BPS” could mean “battery power supply” or something along those lines. It seems an odd place to put an ownership label, but I guess it’s possible.

I think you may be on to something, HorvatM.

Another idea: since this is really just a generic LPT->Address/Data bus device, you could probably use it to write to EPROM/RAM cartridges just as easily as reading the original carts. Since they made adapters (or kits, I guess) for different systems, maybe they also made RAM carts (flash wasn’t economically viable back then).

EDIT: I found it! It’s called “Dig It!” by Pixel Painters. It’s in the “A-M” section of this great list of stereoscopic DOS games.

Well, if the Tomee ones are actually usable, I’ll probably just buy one of these, but if nobody steps up with a real one to model, I might get an extra and have it sent to you. I’d still like a model, so I can make a version with the A/B buttons rotated 90 deg. clockwise.

You have Amiga stuff in there, but there were also quite a few MS-DOS games with native stereoscopic support (e.g. Magic Carpet, Descent, Duke Nukem 3D, and a 2D platformer about a miner/spelunker I can’t recall the name of), not to mention a pretty big homebrew VR “movement” based on DOS software like Rend386 and homemade/modified hardware, like serial-port Power Glove adapters, VGA adapters for VFX-1 and CyberMaxx HMDs, etc. See: Gradecki’s “Virtual Reality Construction Kit” and Jacobson’s “Garage Virtual Reality”. You might want to mention VRML browsers, too, although that’s not really games-specific.

Also, Orb-3D on the NES is interesting, because it uses the Pulfrich effect (one eye covered by a dark lens).

I guess a binary release is better than nothing at all, but it probably doesn’t even need a fancy manual. We could just post any questions we have in the release thread, and it could become a kind of FAQ.

It’s also sad that such a great-looking tool is no longer going to be developed. Is there any way we could persuade you to release it in its current, unfinished state? It may still be useful to others. In fact, you could even put the code up on a sharing site like github, and it could form the basis of a nice community project.

12244, but it’s not the first time I’ve played 2048 (I’ve gotten 2048 once, in another version). It’s hard to keep track with no numbers, but I think I got a 512 or 1024 this time – whichever is represented by what appears to be a black R.O.B. with a VB for the head.
