Keep practicing. I couldn’t beat the first levels when I first started, but with practice I got better.
tips:
The right D-pad is your friend. Don’t be afraid to use it, it’s very necessary. I use it in a very rapid fire like fashion, this allows you to kind of use it like a newer dual analog controller. Use this technique whenever there’s enemies firing at you, as you can easily dodge their bullets by quickly side-shifting out of the way. I find myself on some boss battles just rapidly hitting left or right on the right d-pad to circle around the boss while shooting him. This usually helps in avoiding the missiles while still attacking. Although note this is not what I do for the second boss, but there is definitely still a lot of side shifting involved…while reversing. That’s all I should say.
The rest, is up to you
=P
Oh, and the Virtual Boy’s 3D makes it incredibly easy to see what’s going on. If someone’s giving it a bad rap for being confusing I’d guess they’re playing it in 2D on an emulator.
Lmao, apparently I never looked very hard at the Prototype edition’s box =P
I see they’re in stock again. The collector in me is screaming “BUY IT”, the accountant in me is saying “Your bank account is EMPTY from all that other gaming crap you just bought.”
You see I’m also collecting NES and SNES stuff now…just bought a SNES and a couple games, and also some NES games (including MetalStorm at 70 freaking dollars!). Being a 26 year old juggling a mortgage and everything else life requires…my bank account haaates me, lol.
However, if they’re not sold out in a couple weeks when I’ve recouped a bit I might have to pull the trigger…but wait…Space Squash….Dammit!
Happy New Year everyone. I’m gonna start playing my VB a little before midnight so I can start next year off right =P
Oh, I thought that’s what you meant. Are you talking about the prototype edition? I’m not sure what Faceball VB means.
If so, then no, I don’t have it. I do like that version as well, but at $160 plus shipping for both versions it is a lot for me at once. And now it’s not available I don’t think

What no Faceball VB I am a little dissapointed!
It’s under 3D Tetris on the left. It’s kind of obstructed in that picture by the Red Alarm instruction book. I gotta reorganize that thing though..
Can’t say no to an updated photo of my collection =P

It looks great in my display case.
Only downside is the misspelling of “control” on the back description (controll). But I’ll let that slide, since it’s on the back =P
Other minor detail is the ESRB bleeding off the edge slightly. Again, doesn’t really detract from it, looks as close to the real deal as I could hope for.

I think the 4 per year is fine.
Virtual Bowling?? No wonder you’re broke =P

I’ve seen the platform ones on ebay. They go from anywhere from 250-600.
Oh reaaallyy? I might have to keep an eye out..
I wish I could get me one of those…Don’t think there’s really any available around here.
I don’t think it’s one of those things you can just ebay either =(
Definitely some amazing stuff you guys have done. So far all I’ve got is Bound High, can’t wait for Faceball to arrive! Out of the two games..I dunno, both are great in different ways! I’d love to get Space Squash but Christmas has left me hurtin for money. So in January then!
HollowedEmpire wrote:Had a brief time with Jack Bros. via emulation. From what I played though was fantastic! Definitely planning on trying to get a cart one day… or use the FlashBoy. Been a little while so I have nothing in particular to say about it other than I had a lot of fun with it.
I just bought Red Alarm too so I can let you know how it is after I give it a try.
Jack Bros is awesome! I highly recommend it.
And I think you’ll enjoy Red Alarm, it’s definitely one of my favorites for the system. It just oozes style and is a very unique wireframe shooter. I Love it!
I paid $100 for my Flashboy. At that price, it’s a steal. For simplicity sake lets say the loose carts average $20. There are definitely more than 5 great games out there you don’t own yet, and more keep popping up.
If your short on cash and want some quick entertainment, Vertical Force (JPN) is usually less than $10 shipped for the cart, and gives you a good ol top down aircraft shooter.
Jack Bros is just awesome, but you may as well buy a flashboy for the price it is.
Red Alarm is a stellar game that usually sells for pretty cheap.

You’re right, that’s a way better game than I thought!

Well here I am always overlooking space squash.
Gonna flash it to the flashboy and give ‘er a try!
Mine.
And also that copy of Faceball Remastered I’ve been meaning to get.
Oh, and THANK YOU to everyone involved, this is awesome
Hey, I had one of those years ago. I never gave it much of a chance though. Super Mario was just so much easier with a controller.
It seemed like a cool idea with the joystick attachment things..but I didn’t have any flying games =(

Looks good..what’s your favorite game so far ?
Me? Jeez, it’s kind of hard to pick a favorite, it changes depending on my mood =P
My most played though are:
Jack Bros – I like the gameplay style, the graphics are nice with some cool 3D effects. One of my favorite games when it comes to the music, the soundtrack is just awesome.
Wario Land – What can I say, I’m a sucker for Mario styled platformers. This one is no slouch either, very fun!
3D Tetris – While not exactly exciting, I find it very easy to loose a bunch of time in this game. It’s like if lego and tetris had a baby.
Red Alarm – This is the game that got me collecting VB stuff in the first place. Definitely an old favorite of mine. The atmosphere and style in this game are just unmatched compared to so many games, even on other consoles.
Yeah…I could go on, as I like most of them, a lot of the games on this system are just classic gaming gold. And then throw homebrew in the mix…I’m definitely a happy camper with my VB

Looking at my box it’s just a photo, nothing fancy
Nice video Protoman!
Here are some (messy) pics of my up to date collection.
