I performed the oven trick twice on my original unit. Both times it only lasted about a month and I ultimately created additional damage to the ribbon cables.

Just thought I’d add a couple pics of my friend and his son enjoying the setup.

If you like the idea and decide to copy the hardware I used I recommend putting the tracks separately flat against the wall on their own studs. This would allow you to loosen the track adapters and move them more freely without worrying about scratching the wall. That is what I wanted to do but real estate is limited in my Man Cave. Now I need a third unit so I can set it up for solo play by my computer upstairs. I will be sending another set of displays to bennybtl soon for soldering. I will probably be looking to implement the adjustable lamp for that install so if anyone has any advice let me know.

Thank you!! If you are going to replicate I would suggest having it a bit further out from the wall. It is a bit of a pain adjusting the height and I will probably end up scraping some of the paint of the wall in the long run after adjusting it a lot.

Welcome Ben!! Thanks for the pics. After seeing more of the process I was definetly correct in thinking this is out of my skill set. I received my second set of fixed displays from Ben earlier this week and was finally able to test Kevin’s link cable. It works great and I can’t wait for more games that utilize this capability.

This is the post I created about a guy that has done these repairs for me. He is based in the US.

VN101255743 – system I had since I was a kid
VN100120738 – recently purchased on eBay so I can use the link cable

I could be mistaken but I believe it is the battery allowing you to save progress (for games that support it).

Two player Teleroboxer would definetly be amazing IMO. I purchased that game when it was priced at $5 when VB was pulled from the market and it is my favorite of the released games.

This was what he said about the above repair:
“hello again. I have tested and verified both displays work. I did run into another weird issue. The same line in the ribbon cable (select) of the other display was cracked at the connector end. I was able to bridge it with a little solder. Have you every noticed the display having a double image (normal and mirrored overlayed) this is what it does when the select line is disconnected.”

You can see he verifies his work and is very thorough. I was very pleased, otherwise I would not be recommending him to the community.

Just mailed him my second set yesterday. Hopefully I will be able to test out Kevin’s cable soon!!

Soldering them so they will be fixed permanently. Here is some pics he sent me when he did my first set. Apparently it was more damaged than I realized, probably because I attempted the oven method a few times first. The oven method worked but only lasted a month or so each time.

Cheapest – Ebay but coming from China so expect shipping to take around a month

Amazon a bit more but you can get a set of the propriety tools for most game systems for about $10

I am no good at this but I figured it was something to do this morning. My take on a new label. Feel free to comment on likes/dislikes.

I must agree that this is amazing. I only discovered this forum a few months ago but it has definetly revived the love I have always had for this console. I appreciate all the hard work I see that this community has/is putting in.

I would be willing to contribute as well. I wouldn’t be able to contribute a lot but if we got a pool going I would do what I could.

Received my link cable yesterday, i was not expecting such professional quality. It looks and feels factory manufactured, thank you Mellot124! Looks like i will need to invest in another Flashboy soon

I found a guy in the US that i tracked down from a forum post he made about a decade ago. Anyways he repaired mine and only charged shipping and whatever i felt was an adequate tip. My ribbon cables were more damaged than i imagined. He sent me pics showing what was wrong and what he did throughout the process and if i remember correctly it took a little over a week. I will not post his info but if someone needs it feel free to PM me and i will ask him if i can forward it. I would actually be surprised if he wasn’t in this forum …

By any chance has someone made one of these that could recommend a lamp to use for the base??
