Sorry for the late replies here, but shortly after creating this thread, life decided to smack me hard across the face with a bunch of Bullspit. But time heals all, and the BS is over… So now I’m back in the game! Woot woot.

Hmm…was that “pre-production stand” included with that pre-prod controller when DocAetzn originally acquired it? I only ask because I’ve always known it to be like this…
As we all know, both the Japan and North American Virtual Boys have the normal retail stands that we’re all familiar with.
The Shoshinkai prototype Virtual Boys with the multi-colored-buttons had stands that have a circular adjustment knob like the one pictured in DocAetzn collection.
And the “pre-production” units with the black “IPD” and “Focus” buttons had stands that seem to have a feature that’s not included with any other stand…
By observing the picture provided below, you’ll notice that I circled what looks like a security screw featured on the side of the “release button”. It looks like it’s there to lock in the head unit. Screwing the screw all the way down would prevent you from pushing-in the button to release the head unit.
This is something I don’t think I’ve seen anyone discuss before… It’s quite interesting though.

That Contest would be the “VIRTUAL BOY MUST SEE 3-D SWEEPSTAKES”, where contestants had a chance to win many prizes from Nintendo. 2,500 2nd place winners received a Virtual Boy Cap! The Cap would’ve made the winners look “real happening”!
I’m not sure if the Cap pictured on the sweepstakes ad really exist. It could be that the hat pictured above is really the actual hat that was given away to contestants and the image on the ad was just a mockup of what the Cap might’ve looked like. Almost like there should’ve been some fine print that Stated “actual style may vary” since the hat pictured above looks like the one shown on the sweepstakes ad minus the border around the Virtual Boy logo. Or maybe the hat pictured on the ad is soo rare it just hasn’t surfaced yet. I’ve never seen one in my 10 years of searching for rare VB items, and I never seen an actual picture of the hat anywhere online either, just that image on the sweepstakes ad. I’ve seen quite a few auctions for the above hat in my day, and many of the sellers call the hat a Nintendo employee promotional item, but then again I’ve also seen many auctions where sellers call rare VB items “employee promos” when the items actually originated from somewhere else, so… I’m not sure where the hat came from… I guess would be the central theme I’m trynna get across here.

Thanks ben. Yeah, it has to be it. It’s too bad that none of us ever got to see Dragon Hopper in one of these back in the day. But the first picture below will give you a good idea on what it would’ve looked like.
Also, since you’re in here, I want to tell you that displaying your VidPro cards in 5×7 acrylic picture frames is the way to go. They look very nice in them and will also protect them very-well. I scored 5 acrylic frames on ebay for only $3, but you might also find these at your local WalMart, but probably not with ebay prices.

I see what you’re saying there. Check this out… I was able to remove the blue one from its plastic to get a better picture. It seems to match one of the blue inner box flaps quite nicely.
And now, I would like to introduce to the community, another undocumented (until now) VB promo item!
This was included in the same set as the above red special value buttons. It’s basically the same thing as the red ones, only I flicked it on and it does not work. And there’s no way in hell I’m opening it up to find out what it does after what I went through with the first one. It most likely does the same thing, and that’s to flash a red light.
These must’ve been included in a special value set of some sorts. Since each one matches certain colors of the Virtual Boy’s US retail box.

I’ve been a member on this site for a little over 2 years now, posting what I thought would’ve been some pretty interesting stuff to him and all Virtual Boy collectors and enthusiasts alike, but you won’t find him in a single one of my threads
