I was just wondering if there were any in-game differences between the Japanese and US versions of Mario’s Tennis. I just got a copy of Mario’s Tennis Japanese, and thought it would be in Japanese, but it was in English.

Nope… it’s the exact same ROM.

OK, thanks.

This is true of pretty much all the first-party VB titles, right? I think only third-party games had different text, etc.

Yeah… Mario’s Tennis, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer, and Wario Land all were identical between US/JP versions.

Does anyone know where i can get a cheap wario land?

Taking over random unrelated threads, eh? 😉

Did you buy it online? I think you got scammed, there’s no way the Japanese version would be in English.

I can speak with some experience about this. I used to have imports of both Mario’s Tennis and Teleroboxer, and the in-game text was completely in English for both, while the manuals were (of course) in Japanese. I’m guessing Nintendo just didn’t bother with localization for the first wave of VB games, since it released in the US and Japan within weeks of each other.

He did not get scammed. All versions are in English.

I don’t think there are any fake copies (or at least not commonly) of Virtual Boy games due to people not buying them as much as GBA or DS games

has there ever been fake VB games? (and no I don’t mean some cover someone made in photoshop for fun)

No… I don’t think anyone has ever come across any bootleg VB games (unless you count the Hong Kong module, which is rumored to have existed… though there’s never been any proof, and I personally highly doubt exists). There would have been no money to be made from them, since original games were hardly selling.
