Original Post

Well, some topics seem to get off ‘topic’ lately, and get into a discussion of repros and the process…what we are doing next ect.

I thought it might be a good idea to post stuff on this thread..organize it a bit.

Maybe make other threads that deal with cart shells or if we have a viable connector ect.

Now…where are we atm with reproductions

Well let’s see

I’m planning on sending out the free carts still. Need to get the labels..I’m going to send out 70 carts it looks like.

People that get a free cart can order the packaging at tusks website. The packaging has a small hold up on the hint-book. We’re not sure how much it will cost yet..depends on how many pages the instructions and hintbook has…Poster looks really sweet..morintari did the artwork for the poster and hintbook ect..

For people that want to buy one CIB…we will offer a few CIB (25?) (should the labels be the same?) Funny thing happened. After I released the rom..I stopped getting emails about copy-write stuff.

Blox will be released soonish..we’re going to do a small release at first (25) to make sure there is interest. Blox 2 isn’t going to be done yet..small issue with the save function.

Fastball: remastered still looks like it’s a go. Most of thunderstrucks changes that he has planned has been coded..But the job of coding 50 + levels might take a bit.

We’re going to do a small resupply of the boundhigh/space pinball carts in tusks store (25 of each). This will be the last resupply planned for a bit..so we can get other games done. So, if you haven’t gotten one..order them now (will be a few weeks til we get the new carts in)

After that..nothings been decided.

If we do an english version of gundam..prices will be higher. Richard has to make it have sram..so production costs on his side will be higher. I can prob get the batteries pretty cheap on my side..and install them in the USA.

Other ideas…english version of space squash (if it gets fully translated). I think this is a much better game (fun) to play then gundam. But, you really NEED the translation of gundam to play it..while space squash you can just pick up and play. So, not sure on which one I’d like done first…but I’d like both done.

Homebrews ? Should we split the more ‘commercial’ releases with homebrew releases ? I guess we’ll have to see how well blox does.

Fishbones…

gamehero…

Soviet Union collection…maybe horvat can combine his roms into one ‘collection’..if he wants to..we can do a release with that…

Virtual Chris came out with a bunch of games..maybe a collection ? have to see the interest

Anyway..just wanted to update people on where we are at.

Also, 3 kinda small points I want to make..might seem small..but I want to get it out there before any potential problems happen…

1st. My thoughts might not be Tusk’s or Mindstorm’s…so if I posts my thoughts here..please don’t take it as their thoughts πŸ™‚ Just cuz I say something here..doesn’t make it ‘official’ stuff.

2nd. You can post want you want to see done..but even if we get 20 posts saying ‘we want gundam’..don’t be upset if squash or something else is done first. Maybe we can get to the point that we have a vote on which game comes out next…but we aren’t there yet. We might not have the chips for a certain game..or the manual might not be done ect.

3rd. If I talk about games about to come out..or plans for future games..doesn’t mean we’re doing pre-order’s πŸ™‚ It would be helpful to know how many people are wanting to buy a game..but I don’t think we’ll be taking money ahead of time yet. That first bound high thing was a bit of a mess. Tusk had the packaging..then all of a sudden we could do CIB’s..but people didn’t seem to understand the time it took to get the connectors send them off to mindstorm..get them back..put the carts together ect. If we do any type of pre-ordering thingy..I think Tusk will post on another thread or something.

Sounds like you guys are making good progress with all of the repo stuff. I really have to get those stupid faceball levels done. Mabe next weekend.

HAH..I won’t have the connectors for that game for a month +..u got time man. I think u just want to get it over with πŸ™‚

Actually, I don’t care too much about the cart release but you are right: I really want to get this over with. I’ve put so much work into it (not as much as into Fishbone but still) that I would like to release the final ROM soon. As usual, designing/testing all of the levels takes allot of time. Also it is a surprisingly boring task. On top of that work has been keeping me really busy the last couple of weeks (working on weekends really sucks).

What battery cages are being used on these?

These are the one’s I use (CR1225 version). It’s the thinnest holder, but still needs a bit of dremeling to get it to fit the thin VB cart cases.

I don’t know if you could hack it into a GB cart.

Awesome, thanks! What’s the part number on that guy? It’s worth a shot, if nothing else… and I have a cartridge ready to test, even. πŸ™‚

Cheers!

Lookee what I got in the mail today! πŸ˜€

Thanks again, bigmak! You rock!

The label art looks great, morintari!

That looks great. No idea if I’m getting one but if not, I certainly want to purchase one of those. You did great!

Thanks RunnerPack. There is just something about holding your work in your hand on a real VB label. Man “choked up”. The good news is I actually got the Missus to play a whole game of it=D.

Well done guys it looks fantastic.

Whoa! these started going out. Awesome

Sweeeeeeeet!

Ok So I am confused… Have I missed out on the faceball prototype edition? And will it be in CIB?

To my understanding there are 100 copies, 75 free copies cart only and 25 CIBs to be sold on tusks site?

ok never mind guys. i figured it all out

Oh wow! Those look great!

I’m so stoked. I can’t wait to get one. I made a pretty significant (in my opinion) donation early on and I’m hoping that it netted me a prize.

Oki..so updates updates and more updates

Let’s see

First off..some of you may have noticed some of the free proto carts are ending up in the mail πŸ™‚ 12 were sent out a week or so ago..and I’m planning on sending out 20+ on wed..with another 20 next week. I THINK all the carts are spoken for..so please no pm’s asking for carts at this time. I’ll know better where i’m at when I get done mailing out the batch next week.

Tusk has the packaging done for those who want to make it CIB. I think he’ll have the packaging (with box, instructions, hint book and poster)..next month ? He’s really waiting for me to get these carts out πŸ˜› so the delay isn’t on him..it’s on me. He’ll also put 25 full CIB’s for sale around the same time..for those that didn’t get a free cart in the mail.

The rest of the blox boards and gundam boards are on the way to me. The blox’s will fill out the 50 for the store (on sale now πŸ™‚ )..and the gundam’s will fill out the 50 that are with me atm. Still getting the hang of the dremel..i’m only finished ONE cart so far. So..I’ll need to get crackin on the other 49 πŸ˜› BUT..i want to get out these proto carts first…1 thing at a time..keep telling myself.

Paid for a hunk of baseballs today (just over 300)..should get them by the end of next week..in 6+ 48 box cartons. Puuh..I see lots of work ahead..but the repros will keep on coming.

So, summary

1. free proto carts are currently being sent out
2. blox on sale now..I need to cart the rest when they get here
3. packaging for the proto faceball carts out next month (? guess but should be close)
4. 25 cib proto faceball next month (again..guess but should be close)
5. 50 english gundam carts in 2 months ?? (more risky guess here)
6. faceball remastered a bit after that ??
7. securing enough donator carts to keep us going the rest of the year

I see fishbones and a english space squash coming next..but again..just my opinion..if we do get those out…that would put us at…..(bound high, space pinball, blox, faceball proto, gundam, faceball remastered, fishbones, space squash) 8 repros by the end of the year ?? heh I can’t wait til we pass the US virtual boy releases πŸ˜›

again..all of this could change tomorrow and are only my opinions πŸ™‚

-Eric

Wow, I love reading your updates, puts it all in perspective. I was thinking the same thing about the number of Repros passing the number of US releases. Dead system my ass. Can’t wait to score my FB Proto too. And the upcoming English repros are gonna be GREAT!

Where do you keep getting these Baseball Carts?

what specific Battery size does Gundam take?

CR1225

It is in a holder, but it shouldn’t need changing for a few years I would think.

Hopefully from a source who will not be found out by too many others, lest more deals be made and the supply runs out too quickly.

Oh yeah, I can only imagine what would happen if you guys lost your Source. We would probably have to default to some awful donor cart pre-order system (ugh). Its out of morbid curiosity because I’m a big fan of warehouse find stories (like the early 2000s Thundercats warehouse that toppled the market on some of the rarer figures, or the Cheetah Men II for NES find).

But… I must say I am also curious about how it came to be Baseball (one of only three third party US games). When I was originally buying VB games in the mid 90s (first run) I could NEVER find a US copy of baseball (to this day I’ve never physically seen it in a store; I bought mine on ebay in 1999), and when I stopped collecting in the early 2000s it still seemed like one of the slightly more difficult games to find. But now, upon my return in 2012 I find out its now almost as common as Mario Tennis (hell, or Japanese baseball)! what Happened? anyone mind shedding a little light?

I believe the fact that it was a third-party title as well as a very early release explains why there were so many made. When Kemco was deciding how many copies to produce, they would have had to determine this based on statements from Nintendo about how many Virtual Boy systems were projected to be made and sold. This number was obviously much higher than what the actual numbers turned out to be. Thus, I think the fact that they were a third-party would mean that they weren’t as up-to-date on what was going on at Nintendo, so Nintendo could produce their copies of games more in accordance with the number of systems that were actually being produced, whereas Kemco probably had to do more guess work. Also, the fact that Virtual League Baseball was released so early on didn’t allow Kemco to see how bad the Virtual Boy’s sales were going to be. Atlus and Ocean would have gotten to see this better before mass producing their games, so they evidently decided to make many less copies in expectation of lower-than-projected sales, resulting in Jack Bros. and Waterworld being so rare now.

I actually believe that there are more copies of Virtual League Baseball in existence than there are Virtual Boy systems, but I don’t have any official numbers to go by. This may also be true for Mario’s Tennis carts, since every North American system had one packed in, plus there would have been many additional ones made and sent to Blockbuster for rental.

But what about the Japanese systems that didn’t come with a packed in game then? Surely that would even up the numbers. That and the Systems that Blockbuster had wouldn’t have “come” with Tennis then.

As for Baseball; just wow. Glad you guys got the connect you got since you’d probably end up spending a pretty penny more on… whats another abundant game we see cases of? I guess Japanese Vertical Force?
