It may have not been listed for a while too, I am talking like half a year or longer ago. Pics look the same, so I’m sure it’s the same guy, and the price is the exact same as it was before.Yes, this is the same seller, a member of NintendoAge that I’ve spoken with privately about the game. He knows absolutely nothing about Virtual Boy protos or collecting and admits as much. His reasoning for this high price was “I don’t know much about the VIrtual Boy, but I know it’s obscure so I priced this proto around the same as one would price a TurboGrafx16 proto”, or something to that effect. So he doesn’t know what he has, and doesn’t know what it is (or isn’t) worth.
Yeah, he’s never going to sell it with that logic.
I like the decal for the 3DSXL:

Awesome! I’ve just played through it for the first time (after not playing any VB games in months) and got ending B. It’s much harder than the original. I died at least once per level. Also, nice use of doors. 😉
Out of curiosity, did you look at the game code and save your own level maps to look at / have available while playing the game for the first time? I have, in fact, made my own level maps, which even include the starting positions and strengths of each of the monsters, and if one uses those when playing the game, it makes it much easier. I plan to wait to release the level maps until maybe November 1st, though, so that’ll give time for people to see if they can make it through “blind” for some time.
And yes, since “Insmouse” does appear in English on the original, commercially released, Japanese game box and instruction booklet, it does count as the “official” English translation for the game’s title, so the screw up was on the part of the original Japanese publisher and not on the part of later Nintendo fans. Of course, back in those days of gaming, it was the case that Japanese developers often didn’t try to get someone who was a master of the English language to review their English translations of their game material before publishing their games, manuals, and boxes, so the screw up was likely just a result of the publisher making an educated guess as to how to get “Innsmouth” back into English, without trying to spend too much time or effort to verify the accuracy.

Oh man this is awesome!!!Hope it sees a physical release one day!
Well, since just about anybody can make their own new version of the game with InsmEdit 1.2, it would probably be a waste of resources for any new version to get a physical release.
I would be curious, though, to see any other new versions that might be made by others.
Thanks for the nice feedback, everyone! If you find it difficult, know that having the levels memorized does make approaching the game much easier. I am intentionally holding off on releasing the level maps at this time, so that everyone can have a time to approach it from scratch. The more mystery, the scarier, I think.

If this is authentic, this is a really exciting find, Robert! Not only it’s the first known mention of North American releases of these games, but also even a press release on one of those. Also, “War Simulation”? Could that be Star Seed? But, ugh, the auction has been deleted before I could save the images and description. It also had images of a Space Squash press release and of the cover. The description mentioned this being from CES 1995. I could only find a tiny thumbnail of the cover through Google image search.
Did anyone save all that?
Also, I am wondering what you guys think about the item. The cover looked pretty authentic to me, the spelling in the press release is horrible, though. 🙂 This article seems to back its authenticity: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/articles/?s013096001
I am entirely convinced that this is fully authentic. I also conclude that “War Simulation” was a working title for “Star Seed.” The way that the English appears shows strong evidence as having come from someone fluent in Japanese but not so fluent in English. I can even guess what some of the original Japanese words would have been in the write-up for Proteus Zone before someone tried to translate it into English, as a result of having looked at so many Japanese texts so far.
In any case, I am the one who bought the auction, so as soon as everything arrives to me, I will try to make and post high quality scans of everything. I’m also going to try to create what I believe to be a “cleaner” English translation of what was probably the original Japanese text in the write-up for Proteus Zone.
I have yet to receive confirmation that the item has shipped, though, so I hope no troubles arise there.
I’m excited to support this project and see what all will come of it!

Being able to experience the feeling as if four people are truly surrounding the table is an attraction point. Indeed, the opponents and tiles are represented stereoscopically from a perspective that is as close as possible to your very own. Of course, this series’ greatest selling point, the yakuman showdown, which makes it easier for tiles to be distributed with the goal of a yakuman hand, is also alive and well. At last, the Virtual Boy is in the countdown stages until launch! The lineup consists of a total of 5 software titles to be released at the same time as the system on July 21st, namely 3 titles from Nintendo and one each from Hudson and T&E Soft. The price for each will be 4,900 yen, so if just one would be combined with the system (15,000 yen), the price would be 19,900 yen. Looking at this price, we’re guessing that there are not many people thinking of buying 2 or 3 software titles at once. Also, starting in August, they have already decided to release another 18 software titles, so it would be nice to choose your software carefully here. In any case, even the 5 titles released simultaneously with the system are sure to entertain the world of VB more than enough! First of all, we recommend that you consider from these five titles.

Looks like a cross between a racing game and a Star Fox game!
Maybe the hoaxer is hoping that somebody with a true but secretly held prototype Virtual Boy game will try to contact him and try to make a trade offer.
Virtual Boy Hyper Fighting Box Scans / Instruction Booklet Scans:
The dimensions of the box are:
5 inches wide; 4 and 7/8 inches high; 1 inch deep
The dimensions of the instruction booklet are:
4 and 3/8 inches wide; 4 and 1/2 inches high
I should be able to make high quality scans of everything sometime this week, and then I can post them on this site. I myself don’t have access to the original source files for the box and manual, and I’m not exactly sure of who might have them besides Mr. Anon. Thus, scans are the only thing I’m capable of making with regard to this.
I’m not sure of what the rumor mills have produced, but I’ve never publicly disclosed the amounts spent on either Faceball or Hyper Fighting.

Someone can jump in if I was wrong about the version, but I”m pretty sure I’ve read that before so I think it’s correct (also, since no one jumped in yet to correct me).
The game is supposed to play almost exactly the same as “Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting” for the SNES. At least, that was my original request for the game. Hence, “Hyper Fighting” simply takes the last part of the original title from the SNES version. Although, some of the character backgrounds that appear in Hyper Fighting are different than the backgrounds that appear in Street Fighter II Turbo, so those backgrounds must have been taken from later Street Fighter games. I’m pretty sure those backgrounds also do not appear in the Genesis version of Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition. Nevertheless, the opening sequence of Hyper Fighting does very closely match what appears in Special Champion Edition. It’s also very important to understand that the AI of all of the fighters in the game was made completely from scratch, so the enemies do not fight the same as in any previous version of Street Fighter 2 ever made. I like to think of the game as a completely original fighting game with largely a Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting skin, with some skin elements added from other Street Fighter games thrown in.
Well, I can make high quality scans of everything, if you want that, and then anyone could make and print out their own copies of each if they like. I don’t think making and posting scans of everything would upset anyone.
So are you looking for actual copies from the original limited production run, the original source files for each, or high-quality scans of everything?
