It’s definitely from the emu, but filmed off the screen. Look at the angle, the crisp picture and how it has no sound, since RB did not have good sound emulation back when the video was made. There’s also a version with sound from the same user, which ends after the intro, right before the game starts, which is where it gets buggy.
I don’t know if there’s any way to help. RunnerPack’s tool comes with source, so you could look for errors in it, but it might not be the ISX conversion after all, but something in the source. Let’s just keep them trying for a little longer.
Buggy version compiled with gccvb, played on Reality Boy. It runs almost perfect on the emulator, but not very good on hardware. There are some little bugs, like the garbled graphics at 3:27 for example. Interestingly, that happens right before the Plasma Stage starts, which is were problems start on the VUCC compiled version.
Woot! Will try it our asap.
Your changes to my font are very well done, I will add them soon. 🙂
And again… you’re right, Amos. 😀
Yes, you’re right, the pinout on this cart is different. It’s a prototype cart that worked with the WCES/Shoshinkai VB prototypes, which had this different pinout as well. It’s unknown whether there are/were also flash carts with a retail pinout, since this is the only one than ever surfaced.
Nice! Hopefully there will be an adapter. The Retrode it pretty expensive though, 70 EUR. 🙁
P.S. Thanks to TheForce81 for the heads up!
We will do before the 3DS comes out. 🙂
P.S. Just writing a news report about that.
Like I said, there still is an unknown bug. The converted ROM seems to run perfectly, but plasma stages and boss stages are broken. RunnerPack and LameBoy are working on it, but it is currently unknown what causes the bug.
The ROM will be released once this is solved.
I just had a closer look at both ROMs, the complete but buggy gccVB version and the broken VUCC version:
(Played on Reality Boy)
Final boss stage
– Normally you would play the boss level (screenshot 1), and if you beat the boss, you see the credit
– In the broken version the boss stage looks like mixture between the final stage and a bonus stage. The boss it mssing and you have a countdown like on a bonus stage. (screenshot 2)
– Oddly, floor plates randomly vanish, just like they would in the correct boss stage, since the final boss sometimes “eats” floor plates when moving over them.
– After finishing that level, you’re taken to level one of Pocket & Cushion mode (screenshot 3).
– After finishing that level, you’re taken back to the title screen.
– Icons of items hidden under the floor plates are garbled (happened to me only once)
Plasma Stages
– Those are level 6 of each world. Goal is to bounce together the pairs of (+) and (-) balls. There’s a counter. (screenshot 4)
– In the broken version, items seem to be placed under the floor and fall down and die once the level started, leaving you with an empty level. Since the counter is missing, Plasma Stages are unsolveable. It also says “boss stage”.(screenshot 5)
– BUT Level 7 says “Plasma Stage” in the broken version and there’s (garbled) (+) and (-) balls. (screenshot 6)
Normal (not final) boss stages
– Normally, there should be a “Boss Stage” and then a “Bonus Stage”, which are effectively the 11th and 12th level of each world. (screenshot 7 & 8)
– In the broken version it says “Level 11” instead of “Boss Stage”. Stage is empty and instantly cleared. (screenshot 9)
– The next stage, which should be “Bonus Stage”, then says “Boss Stage” and is another empty stage. It can’t be finished. (screenshot 9)
This looks like levels are shifted somehow as well as corresponding graphics.
Oh, wow. It’s funny and sad at the same time how you always come up with even bigger lies when your previous ones were exposed, jojobean. I don’t feel like I have to justify for anything here, so would you please just stop wasting everyone’s time with your absurd conspiracy theories? I hope you don’t believe this yourself.
It is true, though, that there are many people who have those ROMs and dirty business has been done in the past, like that extremely expensive homemade BH cart sold to Robert Molander.
So we have no clue who sold this on craigslist and I know that the BH recently on ebay was not jojobean’s.
I didn’t name any names in my first post in this thread to not discredit anyone, but with all that bullshit being spread, I guess it’s time to clear some things up. Here’s the full story about Bound High:
It was in 2003, when I received the final source code from someone [name removed upon request]. He asked me not to spread the source, but he wouldn’t mind me releasing the ROM if I could manage to compile it.
I asked someone else [name removed upon request] for help, and in late 2005 he eventually managed to build a modified version of the source in gccVB. (So BTW, this also lead to improved versions of gccVB and Reality Boy.) This version ran pretty well on the emulator, but was very buggy if played on real hardware.
A good, releasable build seemed very close, but the years passed and it was never accomplished to fix those bugs. I released a review of the game in 2007 based on the buggy version mainly played on the emulator, but also on Hardware, as far as possible.
In 2008, jojobean joined the scene and somehow managed to get the source from Nakanishi and the buggy build from David, afaik by telling them he was my friend. He got these items for free of course. He started contacting people offering the ROM for sale. He also used some synonyms: mysterymoppet, Sam Gupta, Adell Fuero and ginzastrip are those I know of.
Some weeks ago, jojobean got in contact with RunnerPack and let him have the Bound High source to develop his ISX converter in return. With it it was possible to create a better build, which runs on hardware, but had broken boss and plasma stages. Jojobean then began offering that version for sale to everyone and their moms as a “perfectly running original dump from a prototype cartridge”…
Around the same time, LameBoy, not knowing of RunnerPack’s work, starting working on his own converter. Discussion about this lead to RunnerPack breaking the silence and a chart house of lies collapsing.

Congrats, Pat! And thanks for being the one that posted a big part of those useful posts. 😀
Sorry for editing your post, but please don’t spread this buggy version. We are working on getting the ISX tools right so we can build a “perfect” ROM of Bound High and release it.
No matter who you got it from (although I bet I know who it was), once the ROM is out, hopefully noone will be ripped off by anyone anymore.

The first special award was given to RunnerPack for practically running the VB Dev Wiki all on his own. Congrats!
Should be possible to modify the script. I am looking at it, the only problem seems to be distinguishing the file extension of the uploaded image. Does anyone know, if there is any way to extract this info or simply the file name from the POST data?
Oh, I see. Well, since I recently upgraded to 10 gigs of webspace, of which 7 are currently unused, I guess the file limit can be set higher. 🙂
Please always attach files to posts instead of hosting them somewhere else. This way they can’t get deleted.

Well, it does work now. I’ve noticed you’ve changed the ampersand. It looks much better now.
Nice! I changed the way it hides the text from “color: transparent” to “text-indent: -9999px”.
Here’s a quickly thrown together script to generate your own text. Will be made pretty later. 😉

Thanks RunnerPack! It’s simply a PHP function, which goes through an input string, and outputs it with a tag around every letter. Each span tag has a certain height and width and the needed part of font.png set as background. The tag also hides the letter it contains through “color: transparent”. There might be a better way, which also works in Opera 9. I didn’t test it in any other browser yet.
With script I meant an input form, with which users could submit any text and get it displayed in this VB font.
I will work some more on the font and fix the ampersand as well as the seven.
Looking forward to the TTF, that will be great! 🙂
