I incorporated the CSS sprites Runnerpack suggested. Works much better now. It also allowed me to have special treatments for space between certain characters, like “W” and “A”, which makes the font look even better. 🙂

I also added those to the forum headers.

There’s still a few characters in the font, which I am not satisfied with, especially the “&”. If anyone could give a redesign of this character a try, that would be great.

Many more foreign and special characters have to be added as well to make the font really complete.

BTW, anyone interested in a little script to turn any user input into this font?

The high res font is not yet done, but here’s the small one, made from the “Virtual Boy” text on commercial VB games’ IPD/focus adjustment screens.

No! No… please don’t. 😉

I am almost finished with making a very high res font similar to RunnerPacks, which I need for a poster for the next coding competition. I will post it once it is done.

Good tip to use CSS sprites, RunnerPack, I will give it a try.

Aquanistic, would you mind telling us which site you were talking about?

Sorry, e5frog, I don’t think so either.

Running a site like this requires making difficult, but necessary decisions from time to time.

You, the community, are what makes this site so special and are my motivator for working so much on the site, and I always try to involve you guys as much as possible, try to hear all wishes and so on. But people’s opinions are very different, and if I always made a poll or something, we won’t progress anywhere.

Think of the site redesign in December. It wasn’t easy to drop the old look, and many people had a lot to complain, while many others were very happy with the change. After all, it was absolutely necessary and now, after some months, I am sure it was a very good decision.

The domain change was no easy decision as well. I struggled with it for years actually and I am not entirely sure if it works out right. But I think it was the right move.

Changes are never easy, we struggle with them by nature, and normally it takes a while to accept those, but when you do, you’ll often see that they were for good.

Perfect in terms of the shortest possible .com domain, which is close to the site name. “PVB” is how I refer to this site most of the times.

Only “mistake”: batterys are empty very fast. So I wait for my own adaptor tap – and everything becomes alrigt!

Playing VB with batteries is no good idea anyways. 😉

Are you sure the FlashBoy drains more power than a standard cart? I made no tests, but I always thought it was the other way round.

I don’t see the problem, who really cares about top domains?

Most people? 🙂 It’s what represents the site, an important part of a site’s identity.

The real home of this side should be
“planetvirtualboy.com”
or maybe better “planet-virtual-boy.com”

Right. Then again, these are too long. 😉

pvb.com would be so perfect. 🙁

Actually, that’s the only fair price I can see.

Be warned about Video Game Source, people, one collector told me that they were selling resealed games as brand new.

It’s only 12 EUR a year for a .com domain at my hoster. But the donations definitely helped, thanks again!

.com adresses don’t really stand for commercial sites anymore, that classification is long obsolete. Instead, they are THE international domain in people’s minds, while .de most likely sounds weird first to the most people. If you’re new to one site and not used to the domain, which sounds better? bg28.ch or gameboyland.com? (Just a random example, not sure if these sites really exist.)

I hope that, with the new domain, the site is more attractive to new people, maybe even ranks better on US Google due to the international domain. Also, so many people talk about the site as “VR32” instead of “PVB”, “Planet VB” or “Planet Virtual Boy”. Hopefully, there won’t be any more confusion now.

Actually, I really wanted pvb.com for the shortness, but it’s blocked by some f***ing domain reseller. Although I hate that type of business and don’t want to support it by buying domains, I still tried to contact them several times, but got no responses. I guess my offers were too low. 🙁

So planetvb.com ist a good and cheap alternative, IMO, keeping in mind that we already had that domain years ago as a second domain but lost it.

460 EUR? Bloody hell.

Beides sollte möglich sein. Ich verwende jedoch ein original AC Adapter Set mit einem Spannungswandler.

aka

Both should be possible. I use an original AC Adadpter Set with a step-down converter, though.

There’s still enough other games, jojobean. 🙂

Recordings, no fancy hacked stuff. 😉

Edit: You beat me, Basil. Welcome, by the way. 🙂

I liked RAD’s idea most and added Top 3 donor badges. I think that’s sufficient for now, but I might expand those to Top 5 or Top 10 some day.

Right. I think the badge plus being listed in the donations section is a good appreciation. Keep in mind that most people don’t donate for getting a badge or so in return, but to say thank you and to help keeping the site up and running.

AFAIK, both terms are possible.

You should let people get a single custom badge if they donate money to pay for site costs. Its fun and a great way to get some cash!

Hmm… there’s the “Donator” badge. Or do you mean something else?

App Coder badge has been added.
