That is butt-ugly!

Thx! That was another smooth transaction. Appreciate it!

Many years ago, someone claimed to know the editor of a gaming magazine who supposedly got a copy of DH in exchange for featuring another videogame on the cover of the magazine. But efforts to follow up were met with a lot of stonewalling, so I was dubious of the claim.

Thanks to Splain for restoring my faith in people. He inquired about the price, sent Paypal quickly, and let me know when the package arrived. Kudos to him!

Thx. Sent you a PM.

I’m a little confused. Maybe you can help me out. You posted that you were looking to buy a Waterworld cart between $70 and $90, so I fished mine out of storage, checked the condition, and tested it to be sure it worked. I then let you know I’d sell it for $85 – less than the top of your stated range. You then asked me for shipping cost to Israel, so I figured out a method to ship it safely, but cheaply, and mocked up the envelope so I could weigh it and price it. I then let you know I’d include shipping at the $85 price – no extra charge.

You didn’t respond to that message for a couple of days, so I inquired again as to the status. At that point, you said you didn’t really have the money to buy it.

So I’m kind of wondering what this posting was about. Why post an offer for something if you don’t have the money for it?

In all fairness, you’re not the only person on this board who has done this type of thing. Over the years, I’ve had numerous people ask me detailed questions about condition, agree to prices, ask me to work up shipping costs, and then either simply stop responding, or let me know they don’t have any money. That’s a lot of effort to go through when the buyer clearly had no intention of making a purchase. (And just to be clear, I’m ok when we don’t agree on a price. I’m talking about people who agree to pricing, then just walk away.)

I love this board, and I’ve gotten more out of it than I can possibly give back, but frankly, I’m baffled by this behavior. Maybe you can shed some light on it – that’d help me out. Thanks.

PM sent.

Is this possible? I would like to buy it. Anyone interested in selling it between this prices?
CIB, No cib….i want the cartridge in working order that is all….thanks

Very cool. Care to fill us in on how you came to own it?

Craps is a very difficult game to learn. I watched someone trying to teach it, and it was mind-boggling how many rules there were. Who in the heck even came up with something like that???

Cool! Not my favorite game, but it’s pretty unique. I just can’t seem to get the hang of it, so I can’t even get thru the first round. When I turn, I just seem to lose all sense of where I am, and where I’m facing. Don’t know why. Hopefully you have better luck.

Nice. I’m glad to see Waterworld getting its due. I actually think it’s one of the best VB games. The analogy to Asteroids is good – it’s a 3D, 360 degree Asteroids. In fact, it’s the only released VB game with true, smooth 360 degree gameplay. (Insmouse’s choppy, jarring 360 degree function is so bad it barely counts.)

Looking forward to checking out the other reviews.

I have a Virtual Lab for sale, new in box, near-mint. $1350 is ludicrous. Make me an offer.

Neil

I have it, along with a bunch of other games. List below. All are complete.

As for Insmouse, here’s a description/price: probably new in box. Slight crushing to one bottom corner, and a very slight amount to one side (noticeable only under good light). Probably an 8. I see the lowest sold on ebay recently went for $125. I’d do $100 + actual shipping. (I’m in the US.) LMK.

JAPANESE GAMES:

SPACE INVADERS (JP): probably new in box. Bottom flap and tiny part of one side have very slight crushing. Couple of very minor dings to back of box that you can only see if you hold it under light at the right angle. I’d rate it an 8.

SPSCE SQUASH (JP): new in box. Virtually mint – a couple of very minor flaws. I’d rate it a 9+.

INSMOUSE (JP): probably new in box. Slight crushing to one bottom corner, and a very slight amount to one side (noticeable only under good light). Probably an 8.

VLAB (JP): new in box. Box has the very tiniest ding to one corner – maybe 1/16″. We’re talking so small most people wouldn’t mention it. 9+.

VFISHING: complete. Used? Near-mint.

JACK BROS (JP): complete. used? not sure. Slight scratching to box. 8.5

MARIO CLASH (JP): complete. Slight crushing to box. 7.5-8.

MARIO CLASH (JP): NIB. Mint.

RED ALARM (JP): NIB. Some very slight scratching to box. 9.

VERTICAL FORCE: NIB? 9.

T&E GOLF (JP): NIB near-mint.

VTetris (JP): complete, may be used? 9.

BASEBALL (JP): NIB. near-mint.

GALACTIC PINBALL (JP): NIB. near-mint.

US GAMES:

GALACTIC PINBALL (US): Used. slight damage to box. 7.5.

TELEROBOXER (US): sealed. Slight crushing to box. 7.5.

TELEROBOXER (US)(another copy): NIB. shrink-wrap torn. box crushed/damaged. 6

WARIOLAND (US): Used. One corner of box crushed. 7.

Sent you a PM.

I am interested to buy several VB Games again.
I am mostly interested in Japanese versions.
Condition should be good and the games should be complete.

I would prefer a set rather than buying game by game.
The games I look for are:

Mario Tennis
Mario Clash
Teleroboxer
VB Wario Land
Galactic Pinnball
Red Alarm
Vtetris
Vertical Force
Virtual Fishing
Bombermann
Jack Bros

Pease make offers

I shopped Toys R Us until every last game was gone from the hidden places in their stock rooms at every local store. I don’t believe they ever officially dropped the game prices below $9.99 for most, and $14.99 for Waterworld and Jack Bros (and 3D Tetris, I believe).

I can’t recall the final clearance price for the systems – I believe it was $19.99, but it may have been $24.99. Anyone else recall?

I’m definitely getting old. I used to know all this stuff.

I wanted one as soon as I played a demo unit, but it was too expensive, so I had to wait to get my first one at T’R’U when they were clearing out at (I think) $25. The games were pretty cheap, too; $2.50-$5, IIRC, but I could only afford a couple. I think I got Mario Clash, Wario and Waterworld (because it was cheap, and there was no playable demo :-P).

I got my 2nd about a decade later at a thrift store for $5, with a Performance AC adapter and a copy of Vertical Force and a broken stand and no visor 😛 but still, not bad.

My 3rd and 4th were main unit only, and I got them in trade for some LED repairs. One of them was disassembled for donor parts (of which I still have a few).

Just paying the seller a more fair price since he didn’t know value. Sharking from another shark.

The person who bought it wasn’t a shark – he legitimately paid the asking price. If you had found it first, I doubt you would have considered yourself a shark, and I really doubt you would have been ok with someone else doing what you did. Just sayin’.

Just came across this line of games. Good reviews on Youtube. They’re larger than the Walmart games, and they have a headphone jack and USB port, so you don’t need batteries. Note that, though they use the arcade graphics in some ads, they’re actually NES ports.

These are 6″ cabinets, but the manufacturer says, in the Burgertime Q&A on Amazon, that they’re coming out with a 10″ Burgertime that uses the arcade version, not the NES.

For those who plan to keep their games sealed in the box, you may want to reconsider. The batteries provided are GP brand “heavy duty” batteries. I replaced mine immediately with a brand name alkaline, to minimize the chance of leakage over time. They go back in the box easily, so if you take a little care in opening them, it shouldn’t be noticeable.

BTW: WalMart may be restocking some of these. The website only lists 3 of the titles (for some strange reason) – it appears that 2 were just restocked. (This morning, Qbert said “1 left”, and Frogger said “2 left”. Now, it doesn’t say that.) But Centipede is still listed as OOS.

It’s interesting that they use such a variety of technology for these games – some have 80s style static LEDs, and some have the latest active panels that look like a TV screen. Wonder why that is.
