Very Nice 🙂

I suggest that PVB users, who are interested in this project also create a GBATemp account, because we are gonna need support of experienced 3DS homebrewsers, I guess. I’ll create an account the coming days …

Some more naming suggestions:
• VUE|3DS (as VUE is already “3D”)
• VIRTUAL Console BOY
THE Virtual Console
• Virtual Utopia Console
• OLD BOY

OH YES!! Count me into the VUE3D task force, please! I also don’t have any dev skills unfortunately, but I definitely would fund a project like this!! And would create teaser graphics, if that could help to inspire developers and funders for this …
I also believe that the 3DS would be the perfect VIRTUAL BOY emulator. And my heart also skipped a beat, when I read your headline …

Also found this one by DogP right now:
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/games/?h051g

It features some more advanced test modes like moving bars and screen fades.

Is there a rom specifically for testing the VB screens to select for example a solid red color on screen?

I quickly made one using the VUE-MASTER template:

#1: BRIGHT RED screen
#2: MEDIUM RED screen
#3: DARK RED screen
#4: BLACK screen
#5: “Layers of Light” featuring all 4 colors

Hey, at least one person read my tutorial! Partly …
Glad I could help! 😀

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YUU!

If I had known, I would have bundled some MPOs of birthday cakes with the new MPO sorter tool revision I sent you tonight. 😀

Anyway, that custom splash animation is beyond incredible! WOW! The screenshots looks really really good as well! Best VUE-MASTER reel to date IMHO.

THANK YOU, MAN! 😀

Hey everyone! It’s my birthday today, so please allow me to post this MK7 reel:

Mii drivin’ Mario Kart (all day)

It features 9 in game screenshots with my mii character. I also made a new custom 3D splash animation for this reel with a nice, smooth frame rate – hope you like it!

Have a nice day!

I totally agree with that. METROID & 3D are a perfect couple! Just like these artworks & the monochrome, dithered VB graphics. The original artworks are very nice too on the 3DS of course, but I prefer this retro look for METROID!

Image number 9 is just gorgeous!

Hai! So desu!

I wonder how some in-game shots look like on the VB.

Me too! But it would make sense to wait for your final mpo sorting tool … I’ve downloaded 2200 MPO screenshots from the european Miiverse METROID SR page and would like to sort the 2d shots out, before I examine the complete archive … 😉

… but I really feel the lack of sound in this reel … no metroid atmosphere without sound! So I recomment to play some Metroid tunes manually when you watch this … 😉
Anyway, the images are awesome on the VB, I think!! What do you think?

HERE YOU GO!

New features in this reel:
• 9 stereo images
• new custom splash animation
• dark “METROID” theme for the main menu*
• fade out between images*

* Many thanks once more to KR155E for these nice new VUE-MASTER features!!

ありがとうございます! ^^

Thanks, guys. Working on a new custom splash animation with a higher framerate right now …

Using “Pattern Dithering” instead of Diffusion (GIMP: “Positioned” instead of “Floyd-Steinberg”) will create less tiles, but small patterns tend to be problematic in 3D stereo images, …

Image No. 6 in the MARIO KART 7 Reel No. 2 is a good example of how pattern dithering can rescue your image:

• with Diffusion Dithering GRIT counted 2600 tiles
• with Pattern Dithering GRIT counted only 1983 tiles

The background wasn’t even separated and pre-dithered in this image. I guess, our brains just know that the sky is located very far away, so pattern dithering doesn’t seem to create many 3d problems in this case …

Update / advanced tip:
GRIT always counts 1 tile more than needed

STEREO BOY schrieb:
:vb: Step 4 – Transferring tiles count (for every image)

• Open: …\VueMasterImage1\Binary\VueMasterImage1.c (neither “..Left.c” nor “..Right.c”)
◦ If the “tiles” count from the header comment (line 7) is 2033 or less: copy it.
◦ If the tiles count is more than 2033 2034, refer to Part 2 of the Graphics Tutorial.

• Open: …\VueMasterImage1\Definition\VueMasterImage1Definition.c

• Paste/replace the tiles count of image 1 under “CharSetROMDef” (line 49).
◦ If the tiles count is exactly 2034, you can type 2033 here.

• Now repeat this procedure (Step 4) for every image, that you have replaced before …

Meanwhile KR155E told me, that GRIT always counts 1 tile more than it found in your image. That means, that you can write one tile less into the definition file ( :vb: Step 4). For example, if GRIT counts exactly 2034 tiles in your image, you can still use it by typing 2033 into the definition file!

Image No. 4 in the MARIO KART 7 Reel No. 2 has exactly 2033 tiles (which is the absolute maximum for VUE-MASTER images). GRIT counted 2034 tiles – see source files attached …

Yeah, me too! Would feel happy to make some 3d converted driver sprites, if DogP wants to revive this project …

In the next Reel, I want to try some ingame graphics from MK7 …

Here comes the next Reel, featuring in-game graphics this time:

MARIO KART 7 – REEL No. 2: “Toad on the Road”

I’ve also updated the splash animation: it run’s smoother now and is in original resolution / scale.

But I had to crop some images in this reel, to reduce tiles count …

I also share my graphic source files for the Reel – feel free to use them, if you want to pimp up your REELease post, for example …

2D files:
• Alpha
• Texture of the Demo Reel
• PSD composition file with editable text layers (CS6)

3D formats:
• C4D
• FBX
• OBJ

The UV layout of the 3D Reel also matches the 2D files …
