If You drag ROMs to pad.exe while holding CTRL key, a DOS window opens, which gives You more options how to pad. Option 3 seems to be some high compatibility mode …
I found this info some days ago when I had trouble padding a ROM too – in this post:
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3241&post_id=5324#forumpost5324

It works on my hardware. I padded it using option 3 “fill with duplicates” …

Awesome! Even if I’m not a developer …
And the VUEngine adjustment screen looks beautiful!

Just married: V10090211 🙂
Der Trend geht zur Zweit-VUE: V10144196
And this is the unit I returned because it was expensive and in a bad shape: V10080877 – more info about the condition of this unit + photos see this post.
All three JPN.

A Virtual Boy Buying Odyssey – Episode III: “The Netherlands”

After the red turtle had noticed, that it’s new VUE machine had glitchy goggles, it crawled to the netherlands to ask an experienced solder-blacksmith for help. He had soldered many hundreds of those goggles before and so a happy end to this odyssey seemed very close. But then – the blacksmith discovered a very rare problem with one of the goggles, he had only seen a few times before in his life: three deceased pixels! 😯
Hearing that, a friendly tradesman turned around and said, that coincidentally he has a pair of solder-fixed goggles left to sell!
“Cowabunga!” the red turtle shouted and bought the two goggles together with an other working VUE machine for a very fair price!

Fighting hard for a Virtual Boy, he finally ended up with two working Virtual Boys! Plus a pair of solder-fixed replacement goggles! :vb: 😎 :vb:

THANK YOU SO MUCH, for finally getting my VB working, TheForce81 and mawa!
ALSO THANKS AGAIN to speedyink, thunderstruck, Cosmoliner and all the others posting helpful answers in the forum and in PMs!
And by the way, I also got a discount from the eBay seller of my VB to compensate the repair costs

My advice for everyone searching for a Virtual Boy is: join Planet Virtual Boy! And go to the Netherlands! 😀

Special thanks to KR155E too, who gave me a quick introduction to VBDE! So I was able to figure out how to test my own graphics on the Virtual Boy already!
Also many thanks to Morintari and his litte son, for giving me an introduction to the sprite painting tools Gale and ProMotion!
And of cause to Alfista, who helped boosting my young game collection to another level!
I didn’t expect that I would feel home so quickly here – You are an awesome community! Thank You all!

Well, OK – enought honey spilled for now, we have some homebrew to do! >:-D

Yes, sounds like a good deal with the blockbuster case. But I’m still new to VB stuff too. I’d like to have the case too, but I decided to make a custom one by myself.

Don’t know when You last tried to contact Lovethrash – he’s on a move since early february, like the link says …
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=36171#forumpost36171
Also don’t know if You tried more than once – when one’s getting many mails, it’s happens quickly to miss one …
Alternatively, RunnerPack repaired displays once, as far as I know. But I don’t know if he still does …

Oh shit! But luckily the people in Your house and even Your Virtual Boy had a guardian angel 😉
First reading I was going to assume, You’ll tell us that Your VBs worked again after that fire (see “oven method”) ha, ha 😉
If You’re located in Europe, TheForce81 is Your man. For the US/Canada You can contact HP Lovethrash.

And to fix that problem thats on his way to you 😉

YEEEAAAAH! Many thanks to You and TheForce81 too! 😀
This community is just great!

I received the game yesterday in very nice condition – thank You so much! 😀
Well … all I need now to get happy is getting my Virtual Boy to work 😛

Works  😀

I have the same issue. Benjamin’s workaround works for me, but only for some polls – for example this search:
“Best Vintage Console”
If I serch for:
“How much would you support a crowdfunded Virtual Boy game with”
I don’t get any results, even if I “search the whole site” …

Cool to see you know where the two notches on top of the VB are for!

😀

If he would have known about it, he would have needed to unpack it and test it, which would make it used and not new in box anymore.

I don’t mind that they didn’t check it. I’ll also tell them that when sending the photos and friendly asking for a discount …

But I think, I’ll send the :vb: to You anyway, as Your price is very fair for a finally working Virtual Boy  🙂
I’ll answer Your e-mail soon … thank You ver much!

Thanks again for all the help – I made my first donation to PVB right now 🙂

Well, but looks like I have to go all the way for my own Virtual Boy …

– I was able to return the VB described above and get full refund (incl. shipping) 🙂
– Yesterday, I received my new Virtual Boy from Japan! This one really looks like new – even the original eye shade included smells like new  😉
– BUT … of cause … the famous GLITCHY DISPLAY ISSUE … well, on the left eye. The right eye doesn’t even glitch – it’s just black 🙁

Actually, I would like to keep that thing. I have contacted TheForce81 now to ask for his soldering services but I think, I really should ask the seller for a discount this time. I bought a “new” one for 406 $ (+ 8 $ shipping to europe + 19% taxes importing to germany) from here: http://r.ebay.com/dCGGYH (the price has increased since)
The description doesn’t say anything about functioning – just “new”. But one should expect, that “new” devices are working properly – that’s not different with VB because of the “common display issue” – is it?
The seller has 100% positive feedback. They’ve also put a bonus game into the package: Golf (jap.). The game’s box is pretty flat, but cart and manual are in very good condition. I already own this one, but it’s well-meant …

I also read this other post, where mips5000 bought a “new one with display problems for $60” – so 406 $ is definetely to much for a VB with not working displays – right?

I selling allot off virtual boys

Do You curently have VBs to sell, mawa?

I hate page 31.

… not really – thank You for sharing

Thanks guys, it’s working for me now! The result for the tower looks a bit weird, but maybe it’s not the right kind of image to throw at the converter. I should try a different one.

Maybe try the map attached with depth of 12 and turn off scaling. It’s an accurate orthogonal depth rendering of a 3d cylinder. This looks more ’rounded’ than the other map.
Anyway, repetitive patterns often cause problems in 3d. If you have only this pattern as a reference, Your brain will find more than one solution to merge it to a somehow working 3d image and therefore getting confused, which pair of tiles represents the “real depth”. If this is put into an artwork with other objects/details/3d references (like windows, birds or clouds), it should work much better …

Edit: Oh! Just earned my second star with this post – I’m a “VB Gamer” now … 😀 :vb:

Your files seem to have a blank alpha channel (and therefore are 4x 8 = 32bit). When I save them without alpha as 24bit (3x 8) I can use them in Vb3dConverter.
… very nice tool by the way – good job! 🙂

Well, I don’t think that I’m deep enough into hex code for this, but there surely are some skilled hex locksmiths around here to open this treasure chest up for us?
The sketchfab description states, that there are
– 157.3k faces
– 165.7k vertices
inside (I guess this informaton could be helpful to solve this puzzle) …

Wow – looks very nice on a 3d monitor! 😎

Wow … THAT’s cool!
I hope someone around here can tell how to extract binary 3d files? I googled a bit and found this tool: Hex 2 obj, wich seems to do the job, but some experience is needed. I’ll have a look at their tutorial later …

Me too!
