Just a few questions Speedyink. I was wondering does M.K.’s MusicMatic allow you to do stereo and sound effects?

It’s just prebuilt in music, I can’t load anything into it. It looks like it supports stereo with the two two sets of level bars, but I didn’t notice a stereo effect with the included music so far.

I wonder if he will try to make it 3D in a future revision? Most of it wouldn’t necessarily lend itself to being 3D but some parts would I suppose.

Not too sure, although I’d be happy with a completed 2D version too 🙂

Oh my gosh – this is cool! And is Bad Apple in 3D?

Nope, just 2D.

I’m glad you enjoyed 🙂

I was equally blown away. The quality of the music (my favorite being ‘Asterix’), and the quality of video is awesome. The video is crisp, looks like native resolution to the VB, and looks to be 30FPS. It sounds like PCM audio which reminds me of Snatcher by Thunderstruck, cool to hear how it handles voice 🙂

With all the stuff going on around here, It’s a great time to own a Virtual Boy!

Hey, this is really cool! I really like how well done everything is, how the title screen seamlessly blends in with the start, and the nice looking credits. The animation and just everything looks really nice on the Virtual Boy displays. Very cool! I wonder if we were to get a larger Flashboy in the future, if there could be longer more fleshed out animations for the VB!

Wow, definitely a neat find! Can’t believe there’s still new stuff out there to be found

Nice, that looks way better

Glad to see it’s sorted and working now!

I’m not an original owner here, honestly I don’t even remember the VB being advertised around here when it was current. I remember Super Nintendo, then straight to N64. Then again given the area I live in I’m not totally surprised :p

My first exposure to the system was around 1999, 2000 something around there. My brothers friend was trying to trade me my bike for either the VB, or an N64. I had never heard of the VB, so he let me borrow it for a couple weeks, along with Red Alarm and Golf. I remember thinking it was such a cool and unique thing, with this head set you stick your face in. It didn’t even have the stand, but I still thought it was cool! I just kind of propped it up on a chair. I remember comparing it to a gameboy, being like whoa, there’s clear voices, and snazzy graphics! I had a thing for vector graphics at the time, so I was just blown away by Red Alarm, I remember playing the crap out of that game. I definitely wore out a couple sets of batteries 😛 I definitely remember really liking the system, but in the end I ended up choosing the N64. It was Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, all those awesome games that I knew were for the system, and that I had been wanting so bad to play but I never had the system. I just didn’t know enough about the VB at the time, plus I wanted to be able to play the same games my friends kept talking about.

Fast forward to 2013, going through some deep depressions somehow I got looking at a Virtual Boy online, and all those awesome memories came back. It was a no brainer, I was buying a VB, so I ended up on ebay to get my first Virtual Boy. I never regretted that decision, although it did kick start a game collecting phase that wasn’t the initial intention :p

It’s just something we have to deal with. Many people share private dumps of games under the grounds that they won’t share it further or leak it.

I have a couple of these and I dare not share them. I’d rather not be that guy to break someones trust.

While I doubt we’ll be able to share the full rom any time soon, I do like the idea that it keeps it out of the hands of random cart makers that may try to profit from someone elses hard work. I’m also glad to hear there will be another official cart only release.

Everyone who has the HF Full rom (there’s a couple out there), just keep in mind that people know what fans will pay for VB stuff. Don’t let them take advantage of us.

Amazing what you can find by digging into the rom. Good stuff Thunder, thanks for sharing!

Wow, the in-game Ben looks a LOT like the real life Ben!

That’s really impressive actually. My spouse bought me a Super Mario related item that I never would have known existed(and he’s no gamer). Made me melt inside 🙂

That is too cool. Yup, definitely a keeper!

Nice! Looks like a fun time. Good to see the Virtual Girl was a hit!

Great news! PM incoming!

1. What do you mean different? The two displays should always be just different enough to make a 3D effect with them combined. Not like, two different scenes in each one or anything =P

2. Again, not really sure what you mean, but as long as the display is consistently bright while in use (will be game specific, some games give you brightness options), then I’m sure it’s fine.

Oh yeah, I’d totally go for a translated Virtual Fishing. Good call, Thunderstruck!

I know I’d be interested! I’d really love to try some of those more obscure Virtual Boy games, but getting a FlashBoy is expensive, and I can never seem to get anything ‘ROM + Retro Gaming’ to work right, plus, it kinda takes away part of the retro gaming charm to me. Being able to one-handedly pull out a nice fat stack of VB games and say it’s nearly the thing’s whole game library it just too great to lose in my opinion.

One thing I would suggest (if you are planning to pursue this further (which I hope that you can do)), is to make it a bit more apparent that the repros, are repros. You wouldn’t want someone to buy them from you and then sell it off to a newbie VB collector at the full value of the genuine version, simply because they don’t know any better. Maybe try to minimally print ‘Reproduction’ somewhere on the label, and/or use different custom artwork.

Good luck with this project! 😉

I believe the OP suggested that he wasn’t comfortable to do games that had a release, which I agree with. Otherwise, even on homebrew carts, I think it would be a cool idea to have the PVB logo somewhere on the label.

While I probably wouldn’t buy any unless games that weren’t ever released on here in CIB formats started to become available.

But I definitely like the idea of having a Planet Virtual Boy approved carts and the like available. Especially since the people who actually developed the games would be aware and even get compensated a bit.

If HP Lovethrash has some time he’s in the US and did my displays for me. He’s a real good dude.
