Dude, I’ll always take another platformer for our beloved system. It looks like something I’d play based off the mockup image.
I see you just joined. I’m sure you know about the resources available here already, but just in case:

If you’re patient and actively looking you can probably score these parts, or a complete untested unit, for much less than $100. It’s all about finding deals. Although making some custom stuff in the mean time so you can still play would be nice. If you’re displays are totally out though they’ll need to be repaired. Get in touch with HP Lovethrash, he might be able to help you with that. He is in the US which would be closer to ship if he is able to. I’ll be getting mine repaired by him hopefully, just sent him a message.
Ahhh, ok, that makes sense. Cyan and black to make the dark blue I presume.
I think I know what you mean, it’s like when you see small, sparse individual dots to represent lighter tones in black and white cartoon books. It would be neat to look at through a microscope.
Looking closely at the box though, it appears like there is a lighter blue and a brown, at least to my eyes. I took a picture though, which hopefully you can make out what I see. Again, I’m not totally sure, not sure how well they can mix colors to create other ones.

Well there ya go, I don’t have much knowledge in the printing field. I can’t find a test pattern on the box, just the number 12 (?).
There is blue on the box as well, and the “55” gradient is like a brownish color on white. Does that mean it uses black and brown as well? Or would that be achieved by mixing?
I mean, you’re probably right as for why it ended up those colors. I’m just curious about printing at this point =P
Chalvo 55 is even smaller than regular Japanese Gameboy boxes. I had a pic on this site somewhere…maybe I’ll look after work if I remember.
I would agree with the cost point, as the box seems cheesier than most gameboy boxes, it’s even smaller than the standard size, possibly to use less cardboard? As for color, though, the ‘Charubo 55’ logo features gradients, which look to possibly include colors close to the Super Gameboy scheme. And it’s printed on every single side of the box, bar the bottom. I definitely agree with the cohesive look though, as it certainly does make it cohesive, and also the sameish color scheme Chalvo himself uses.
Who knows, really. Someone should try to contact the devs =P
Huh, I never really thought about it like that. I suppose so, since the game by default in the super gameboy uses the standard super gameboy color scheme instead of this VB-esque red black theme.
Holy crap, that didn’t take long
Those are all fan made reproductions.
Again, I still think the problem lies with the viewer. His videos are not reviews at all, it’s just about a nerd who gets unusually angry at video games.
He’s just creating a means of entertainment. It’s the people who take everything so seriously that are the issue. Most of them are probably just kids that get way into Youtubers, like kids tend to do with things. Makes me glad I grew up in a different time.. it all just seems so stupid.
AVGN is a character just for the ‘show’, nothing wrong with that. It’s the dumb ass people that think that’s actually who James is that are the problem.
I thought I did, it said 64/64 anyway. Is something supposed to happen? I’m not sure if I actually found all 64, but after looping through a once or twice the counter got up there.
Very cool demo by the way, works good on the hardware.

For now. Let us know when you want it permanently fixed, we can help with that.

I don’t know what kind of View Master you’ve been using, but they’ve always been 3D for me…
Whatever one from the 80’s. You’ll have to forgive me, it’s been over 20 years since I’ve used ones, I can’t remember the details clearly.
I suppose I should have looked this thing up, I just saw the wheels and thought it was the same basic principle. No idea it was a google cardboard type deal.
It’s like a mix between the original design and the Virtual Boy. I like it. I wonder what makes it Virtual Reality, I’m assuming the pictures are just stereoscopic 3D instead of the old 2D pictures they used to use. Then, they could have just called it View Master 3D. So maybe it is a nod to the Virtual Boy =P
What about the 64DD? How does that not even appear on this list, yet the freaking GBA does? These guys don’t know dick about gaming.
Try getting in touch with “HP Lovethrash”
He supposedly repairs them in the US. I’ve been meaning to get him to fix mine too actually, I better get on that!

Yeah, I guess I could have done more to say that it’s not actually THAT bad, at least for me. I don’t know, when I was a kid it bugged me a little bit, and my cousin literally couldn’t play it for more than 5 minutes without getting a headache. Now it just makes my vision screwed up and blueish for a few minutes if I play for long enough.
The displays can not damage your eyes. Nintendo is smart, they hired eye researchers to check the product before hand. In the words of Gunpei Yokoi: “Far from being bad for your eyes, the Virtual Boy was in fact pretty good for them. But we didn’t have time to properly present these findings, and so we gave up trying to include them with the product.”
In fact, the whole 15 minute pause was to do with Japan’s new at the time “Product Liability Act”, which forced them to be extra cautious. Even Microwaves had to state not to dry cats in them due to this act.
If your eyes feel weird or start to hurt, or you get nauseous after playing a Virtual Boy, there’s a good chance you’ll get similar effects from other 3D devices like the Oculus rift. Simulated 3D just messes with some people.
