I always liked the two symmetric d-pads. It looks silly at first. However, they are clearly designed to enable playing FPS similar to the way you play them with dual analog sticks nowadays. I always wondered if Sony’s famous dual analog stick controller got inspired by the Virtual Boy. It was released in late 96 after all.

I always thought the same thing. It’s gotta be the precursor the dual analog, it just fits.

I concur, this community is full of amazing. Really excited for this link cable, good to see a progress picture!

I could have done entirely without the “hurts your eyes” jokes throughout, since we know health experts have proven that the VB displays were in fact good for eyes.

I mean I know it’s a stereotype that’s been ingrained into the “gamer” crowd, but come on, if you’re making a video like this I’d use the opportunity to debunk a common myth, rather than stoke the flames.

I wouldn’t get too upset. Honestly who cares what some people think. If they think it’s crap, then they’re missing out, plain and simple. If someone really can’t see how cool this thing is technically especially for a 1995 release then they are not worth our time.

Let them post their stupid shit. It’s obvious these aren’t credible people and haven’t done research. We know better than to read that sort of trash.

The select button confused me as a kid. Why do I need to press select when I should just be able to press the directional pad? At least on the earlier controllers it was used as an extra button on a lacking controller in some games, but man those games that made me use select to go between options always bothered me.

Well, since it was a weekly issue, it was closer to 50 magazines. The whole shipment weighed about 50 lbs., and that cost over $300.00 to ship.

Ahhh, well that makes more sense.

Although they’re both pretty damn rare and command the highest prices by at least a few hundred dollars from 3rd on the list.

Those Triumph’s are awesome bikes, good choice!

Wow, cool story. Never underestimate the power of the Virtual Boy =P

I seriously won’t be able to believe my eyes if I saw it possible to play VB with someone over the internet. I mean, has any classic game console gotten a homebrew online solution before? Seriously, kudos guys for even trying.

Welcome and congrats! They really are a sweet little console.

“Many are likely to be released next year in March, since Nintendo and the companies involved are planning the launch of a large amount of software for the Virtual Boy in March.”

Damn! Why did ‘March’ never happen???

Informing me they were sending my details to Capcom. That sort of thing.

Wow, some people. Luckily that’s nothing more than an empty threat from some immature low life. Even if anything were to happen (which it won’t) we got your back. You rock Minestorm, don’t ever forget it.

Actually, thinking about it more, there’s similar notes, it’s the different order that makes it sound different to me.

Are you talking about the song after you beat a level? It’s a similar “bumpiness” but the notes are different enough that it sounds different to me.

I’d guess that shipping to the USA from Japan for an item like that would easily be over $500.00. Just a year’s worth of Famitsu magazines cost over $300.00 to ship from Japan to the USA.

Holy crap, 12 magazines was $300 to ship?

Wow, that is cool!

That’s a really cool demo, Krisse!

Awesome stuff! Thank you for taking the time to do all this, Ben. It’s all so fascinating.

Damn, there’s tons of new pictures here. I’m amazed how many of Doraemon there are now, looks like it got decently far into development.
Also we can see the Pro Wrestling Character select and title screen now!

Thanks Ben!
