Wow, awesome work, Ben! I find it strangely fascinating to read about the unreleased titles, they just bring a whole “what could have been” vibe to the history of this console. This first translation looks really well done, and now I have a much better understanding of that game would have been like. I look forward to your future translations!

Do you know if there is a rom to the complete game if it’s finished? I bought a Virtual Boy with flash boy around the holidays, and would really like to try this if a rom is out there.

Unfortunately the completed rom wouldn’t fit on a flashboy. There was a post a while back where they said they were going to have to make a special 32 megabit cart for this game. In fact I think that was why this hasn’t been released, it wasn’t cost effective to make and sell those carts, and give some to the developer. That and the copyright worries.

Your best bet is to play the demo as it still fits on the 16 megabit flashboy.

Nice idea Greg! I love that you even came prepared with a screenshot =P

Thanks again, everyone! I was going for the 90’s toy commercial vibe, the ones I remember seeing as a kid. I’m happy with how it turned out 🙂

Pogs! Damn those bring back memories..

Here’s an Idea that I think the VB could actually do. A good friend of mine and an active member of the site (even though he actually denies it that he came up w/ this idea.) came up with a great idea of a split console game where it requires 2 systems linked w/ a link cable and has 2 differant views one is the strategist and the other the enforcer. One can make the stratgies and help the other out while the other goes in and does the dirty work. I thought that this was a great idea and now I’m sharing it w/ you…Thoughts

Hey, that sounds like an awesome idea! I like that it takes advantage of the fact you each have your own personal screen. I can see lots of games of this style, maybe a tank game where one person mans the turrets and the other controls the driving. Or even a Mario Kart kind of game (Double Dash specifically) where one has a forward view and drives, and the other is looking backwards(or can scroll sideways) with a crosshair, and fires at the other racers.

You don’t know how daft they are? Just search any popular gaming forums, and you’ll find hundreds of topics on this exact issue, and how no one likes it.

Yesterday when I was telling another friend about my hate for “N” after this announcement, he asked why I didn’t just import like he’s known me to do hundreds of times over the years, and I had to explain how the 3DS was region locked, and his question was the same as yours.

Why, when all their past systems have not been. This is what they now do, and why their business is so in the toilet. Every other major system or console is region free, but not “N”.

…Wow. I never even thought about it, I just assumed the handhelds were still region free, it just seemed like common sense.

Oh well, I guess now I can spend that money on retro games instead.

Actually come to think of it, this is a lot like what Sega did with Shenmue. Release the first one everywhere, get everyone hooked on it, then when the second one comes out, decide to release it in every region but NA.

BTW is the 3DS region locked? I thought all Nintendo handhelds were region free, since you know, people travel with them. This allowed me to buy my GBA SP in Japan (Famicom edition, ooh yeaaah). Come to think of it, I bought my PSP in Japan as well. I didn’t have to worry about buying more games for them here because all that stuff was region free back then. Was Nintendo seriously daft enough to make the 3DS’ region locked?

Wait, hold up, they’re not releasing the new 3ds here?? Only the XL version then? Damn, I don’t like the XL, I always liked the smaller ones.

Well I guess this means I’m sticking with my old 3ds

During the past months, I have been working with jorgeche on a new version of the VBJaEngine, which saw a complete rewrite and is now much more capable and accessible than before. When I finally got the hang of it and understood enough of how things work in the engine, it became clear to me that all of a sudden I was able create any game I wanted for the VB. The “if” was no longer that important, but rather the “what”.

This is one game I imagine could be done relatively easy.

I’d be all for that! VVVVV is a great game and it would be awesome on the VB!

As for game ideas:

1. Wolfenstein 3D? The Super Nintendo can run it without the aid of an FX chip, so maybe possible?
2. Runnerpack’s idea!
3. Anything wireframe – I still think some sort of racer would be cool. I think DanB had a great idea with Zpace racers. It was like Zero Racers but it ditched the corridor idea for an open space idea, which I think makes more sense (room for more interesting track designs, take advantage of the black background).

Yeah it’s something you have to be careful about, or else it could get expensive replacing things!

So in other words you plugged it into a 240V socket without a transformer to take it down to 120V?

If that’s the case, then yeah, it probably didn’t like it very much.

Thanks everyone! I’m glad you like it 🙂

Ahh, that’s perfect! I know it seems too wide for a phone, but in Android when you swipe between your homescreens the wallpaper also scrolls left and right slightly, hence the need for the extra width. This 1440p one should work on all lesser resolution Android phones too for anyone who’s wondering.

Thanks again, just set it as my wallpaper, looks great!

The vertical resolution is good (2560 pixels) but the width is only 1140, it needs to be 2880 pixels wide. Although since the sides will be black mostly I can easily make it wider when I get home, I don’t want to be a pain in the ass =P

I’m happy to make one. Like I said, if you guys give me the resolutions you need I will do my best to make it for you. 🙂 I’ll try to have it done today

Awesome, thanks! I’d totally rock the VB wallpaper

Nice wallpapers! If you want to make one for a 1440p android phone, the resolution needed is 2880×2560. You’d be kind of ahead of the curve but hey, then I could use it on my LG G3 🙂

Nice, love the 3D pics, the cross eye one works pretty good!

I’m so excited to try the Music Utopia. It would be SO cool to be able to compose chiptunes, for the VB no less!
