For the DOS challenged:
Refer to pictures for step 1 and 2. If you don’t have a folder setup like in the picture then set one up like it.
Step 3: Take file output from the command prompt and flash to your flashboy. File MUST end up as 2 megabytes. Just use different combinations of ROMS to get the output file to that size.

Here ya go, a quick and dirty kind of video explaining what I did.
Hey that’s perfect, all I needed to know.
Well actually, that video brought up one more question. Where do you get your Panic Bomber music from? I traditionally record all my audio from the VB 3.5mm to my computer and record off the system. The problem with Panic Bomber is there’s no sound check or similar option available, so the two tracks I really wanted would have sound effects from the gameplay. Is there a hidden sound check in that game you use, or something else entirely?
Thanks again!
I agree, the entries were all awesome. I’m really glad there are very talented people still dedicated to our little wonder here. Good job to all the coders who entered, amazing work!

Protoman is the master of making vb vids. He sets his framerate up in such a way so there is no flicker. If anyone can make a vid to tv real time work..it’s him.-Eric
I’d like to know how he does that actually. It’s a feat for sure!
..Was it supposed to be? I don’t remember the creators mentioning that. In fact, MK submitted the gameboy emulator as his entry.
Also I don’t think it would work as an entry, as I’m pretty sure you needed to start the project after the competition starts

Tooth Paste worked? I always thought that one was an urban myth =P I might actually have to try it. Have you tried it on other displays? (Specifically Gameboy ones)
Wow, this game is great! I love the music and how it’s from one of my favorite Mario games of all time. Somehow, something about shooting a shotgun in a Mario game is wrong, but at the same time I couldn’t stop, and couldn’t stop smiling at what I was doing. Until I died. I was so close too! Really good challenge level here, and I like the variety of enemy patterns. Great work!
I can’t believe you made this in a day. It plays really well, and I have to admit, it is addicting. I like the multiple scrolling backgrounds with appropriate depth. It’s cool the see the original Super Mario scenery scrolling in 3D on our beloved system. Great job, man!
Definitely a fun, fast paced game, and it uses the 3D effect really well! I never played the original, but I’m sure it looks way cooler in 3D!
This is actually pretty fun. I’m not usually into crosswords, but when you put them on the VB somehow they get better.
The 3D concept is a great idea. Good job! I’m definitely gonna have to finish all the puzzles =P
I have played Pokemon Red on my Virtual Boy, my life is now complete. Actually it works pretty damn good, despite not being able to heal at the Pokecenter (she won’t give it back T_T) and the lack of saves.

However, every game I try seems to be unplayable because of glitches. I tried Metroid II, Megman and Super Mario Land 2.The only game that worked for me is Super Mario Land. It also had some glitches but I could play through the first levels. It is the same in mednafen.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m heavily impressed that this is even possible. I just try to figure out what I’m doing wrong.
I get graphical glitches too, I just figured it’s just how it is being an emulator running on a freaking game console from 1995(I still can’t believe this). Although those screenshots make it look like it works a lot better…Like for example in Mario Land the text at the top is all centered. On my VB the text at the top scrolls with the landscape as I run (along with some other graphical glitches)
So far the games that work pretty good are Mario Land 1 & 3, Pokemon Red, and Game & Watch 1&2. Games I tried that didn’t work were Mario Land 2 & Bomberman 1&2 (work fine but bomberman and enemies are invisible)
Still, even in it’s glitchy state this is extremely impressive. I can’t believe MK managed to code something so ambitious for a ~20mhz cpu, and have it run at a decent speed. Seriously, amazing work. If the glitches are caused by something me or Thunderstruck have done and they aren’t there for most…I just don’t believe it, there’s gotta be some caveat to this wizardry.

Hah. I hoped I could skip this trend. Now I need to try it.
Hahaha, that was my thoughts exactly. Guess I’ll be playing a version of it after work though =P
Works fine on real hardware.
Very cool! I like how you’ve decided to one up the original game with filled polygons! Would be really cool if you decided to keep working on it.
Very nice, man! I enjoyed that.
I must say it’d be really awesome to have a game like that on the VB.
Very interesting! It’ll be cool to see how this progresses and see how it gets used. Good job!

Nice video.
I found it impressive how good you played Red Alarm through the viewfinder of your camera. 🙂
Thanks!
Haha, I was actually thinking that when I was editing. For Red Alarm and Wario Land I used my DSLR and tripod, so I had two hands free. But lack of depth would definitely be an issue with Red Alarm, so it’s cool that I managed pretty good. I switched to the cell phone though because it captured the whole picture without distortion at the edges. Unfortunately the cellphone took one hand to hold, and trying to play with the other hand… well..the results are evident.
The US tap uses the US Snes adapter, and as far as I know the JP tap uses a JP Super Famicom adapter. I tried plugging in my japanese tap power cord into my US SNES…not the same.
Welcome! This is a great place for everything Virtual Boy!
And you’re in luck, you’ve gotten your VB right before the Virtual Fall coding competition ends. If you manage to get that Flashboy there will be new Homebrew to try out at the end of the month!
