Well, I hope Old Man Sam enjoyed it.

Any ideas what versions you are using influence to for the new levels?
no
OK… I programmed the part that writes the mazes, enemies and so on to the ROM. It seems to work pretty good but I only tested it by looking at the output and comparing it to what was originally in the ROM. I still have to update the pointer arrays that point to the mazes though. The GUI also doesn’t contain a the elements to configure the player position yet. However, the alpha version should be done soon.

There doesn’t seem to be any unused level in Faceball. The level layouts and their associated data are all close together in the ROM and there are 14 of them.
I agree. I searched through the whole ROM to find something that looks like a maze but I didn’t find anything beside the 14 mazes.

the level editor looks great. i can’t wait to play around with it. this is a very exciting time for the virtual boy.i do recall that you mentioned 1 unused level was hiding in the rom? any chance you will include that level in your hack?
I didn’t found a hidden level but a hidden enemy. You can see it in the rom i posted in this thread. The enemy is in the editor as well.

Ohh… just as a side note: I cleaned up the original ROM. Due to the way the ROM was dumped it contained the code two times. I simply removed one copy and padded the ROM.Oh, so it is overdumped? I was already wondering, because to my knowledge the ROM should be 8 MBit, not 16.
I should replace the Faceball ROM on the site with a correct dump. Can you send me a fixed version with the duplicate removed, thunder?
I only did this for my modded version… but you only have to remove half of the file. No big deal.
Ohh… just as a side note: I cleaned up the original ROM. Due to the way the ROM was dumped it contained the code two times. I simply removed one copy and padded the ROM. Now there is plenty of space for complex mazes. I also changed the ROM header information.

I will soon release a pre-alpha version so you guys have something to play around.I will definitely be playing around with that! This is all so very exciting! 🙂
Can’t wait for the Mario Madness Edition 🙂
I have recently put some work into creating a Level-Editor for Faceball. The first version of the GUI part is already done (screenshot attached). The only thing missing for a first working version is the actual patching of the ROM. Pretty much everything else is there. I will soon release a pre-alpha version so you guys have something to play around.

I’m glad to see this finally happening. I hope everybody has fun playing the ROM. A big THANKS goes to Bigmak for making this possible. Donation has been made.
My wife actually ask the owner what he would guess what the Vectrex including all games would be worth. He guessed 40$, so I could have bought it for a pretty low price. He was pretty surprised when my wife told him the actual value.
If someone is interested in where in the ROM I found the mazes, enemies and so on and how I manipulate them please just ask. My notes are kind of messed up so I can’t publish them right now. I plan to write some kind of How-To though.
OK, now that the Faceball ROM is finally released I can show of some stuff I figured out a while ago. Attached to this post you will find a modified version of the ROM that has a different level 1 in all stages. I changed some wall positions, wall types, enemy types and behavior. It also shows the hidden Faceball enemy.
Don’t panic, this is not the final hack. Have fun.

But I have no interest in donating if it gains me nothing in return
Actually, the definition of donation is that you give away something without getting something in return. People seem to forget about that since the whole Kickstarter hype started.

To be fair, it’s the Virtual Boy, a console that to most gamers, is a pile of crap. Plus Faceball doesn’t look like a must have game looking at gameplay, especially for $100 when I can get the SNES and Game Boy versions for much less.
The Faceball card release wasn’t about selling a high quality game at a reasonable price. It was about helping Bigmak to get back a small part of the money he spent on the prototype. You would know that if you read the news on the start-page.
Screw-Attack didn’t bother to do their research either. They basically said that Bigmak (well, they said Mr.G) wants to make money by selling the game over price. This left people with a wrong impression and eventually led to the card release being canceled.
Maybe it is just me but I think if you publish something as ‘News’ you have the responsibility to get your facts right.
Just found this website: http://www.rogeribars.com/ It shows high quality pics of all kinds of controllers including all kinds of information. The VB controller is of course included.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen all of those controllers before, especially since I’ve been watching a lot of the Angry Video Game Nerd episodes recently, except for that controller in the uppermost right corner of the poster. I’ve never seen that before and don’t currently know what system it belongs to.Hahahaha… That’s from the Fairchild Channel F console. 😉
Someone else noted a strange gap between the T and the R in the word CONTROL… I’ll fix that.
Yeah, I remember that one. There was also the “Video Command” controller for the Atari 2600 which was an exact copy of the Fairchild controller.
Looks pretty cool. All of the controllers are easily recognizable and the grey/white/red stile gives the poster a unique feel. I also like how the controllers seem to expand from the right bottom corner. Just out of curiosity: Is there are reason for the bigger space between the letters T and R in the word CONTROL. All of the others are rather near to each other.

Sorry if I sound a little pissy. You’re right, Eric has done a lot. I just don’t get why Bound High! had a normal cart release, if everything was going fine then. Now, this game is having worries over. I’m just anxious, I guess.-Paul
Because that thing happened so fast it caught the attention of people when it was already out.
