A quick video I made to promote the coding competition

Maybe with some luck get some new vb developers who are not members on this site πŸ™‚

I didn’t like it much, sorry.

Thanks for the effort though.

haha because I dont talk in the video? to much to read? bad music?

I have to agree with e5frog.
Music seems to be a bit < off topic >.
Same goes to your picture playing VB.
I think it should be very short in length and targeted only to < competition > concept.
Nice effort !

I agree with the replies so far (even the “Nice effort”) but I want to add one thing: get a hair-cut! πŸ˜›

PS: A man hair-cut.

Well, the music could be something from a Virtual Boy, and then the whole thing is a bit slow with a slow 4 minute scroller with horrible colors – green on red!?

I liked this 55 second “commercial” about Pong SM that was made for the 2008 Pong SM.

It’s a little bit advanced perhaps but short and to the point, people can get all the details by following a link to the official page or something like that.

Some clip with all anaglyphic VB graphics would perhaps be nice, and maybe a version in just red/black.

aha so faster video with less info but a link is better?, vb music?, maybe show the entries like mario kart, vb martio… in the video?

Yes, keep it short, no one really has the interest to stare at a scrolltext for four minutes, unless it’s 1987, on a C64 and if it’s a erotic novel or something like that… πŸ˜‰

Some good video recordings of other homebrew would be nice, Mednafen seems to have an option to record video but I can’t get it to run – guess I should try connecting a gamepad/controller and see if it helps.

Ok I made another one (my commercial for the 2010 coding competition), probably my final one but anyways hope you like it πŸ™‚

A lot bettter, the row breaks on “COMPETITION” and the web-address weren’t that nice though.
cc10.planetvb.com on one row would perhaps be enough, still miss some VB sounds. πŸ˜‰

I just watched the new version of the competetion promo and it was pretty good 😎 .

Here’s what I think:

– Orange on purple? Not the most professional or appropriate color scheme. How about using a combination of black, red and dark grey? You know, the VB’s colors?

– COMPETITIO
N?
Why the N on a new line? Why a boring default font instead of a neat console font?

– Definitely needs some VB music. The music used now is pretty epic, but somehow still doesn’t seem to fit the theme (VB)… Also, the audio used IS copyrighted, which might be some sort of risk (like having the video removed or audio disabled).

– Prizes includes: just a typo, but since “prizes” is plural, “includes” should be “include”. πŸ™‚

– You might want to put the Flashboy before the T-shirt. I mean, it’s the bigger prize!

Again a weird line break…

So, like the others said, I’ll say the same: Nice effort. But needs work.

hehe I thank you all but will not make a new video unless the sound or video is removed
Atleast the video is worth 8+ of a total of 10 points

I’ll give it a 6/10. πŸ˜‰

only 6 haha oh well I think it was worth 8-9/10 atleast well well…atleast the competition has a unofficial commercial

Ser inte att du gjort en som Γ€r bΓ€ttre πŸ™‚

I just picked up on this thread but I have to say ‘fairplay’ to Akumie for going to the effort of making this and it’s only because he’s said he won’t make another, that I now want to have a go.

First things first though:

– How did you capture/film the in-game footage from the previous homebrew’s? (I do not have a Flashboy unfortunately)

– Is there a straightforward way of capturing VB music/sound effects?

– Can anyone forward me some files to use (cuts down on my production time)? Any are good, pics of the t-shirts, any footage of homebrew games running … How’s that Solidworks model coming along HT?

Thanks in advance for any of the above which are offered.

DevilsAvocado, I very much appreciate your will to create a video promo for the competition. Please feel free to use anything you find on PVB; mp3s, screenshots, videos, whatever. If you need anything specific, just send me a PM and I will do my best to supply you with the material you need. πŸ™‚

Videos can be captured directly from screen of the game running on Reality Boy. One program I know that can do this is called camtasia.

I can make some photos of the shirt. Alternatively, I think DogP posted some of the one he won in the last competition.

Two quick links to audio material:

One idea: It’s probably impossible to create animations with Solidworks, but if it was possible, it would be cool to show the controller (without the “tentacles”) in some motion; it could for example move/spin to the position it has on the poster, then you see the buttons and d-pads fly out of it to form the “tentacles” seen on the poster artwork (BTW, those are meant as an allegory for creativity.)

Not impossible to do animations in SW, not easy and not something i have much of a grasp of currently, I need less ‘work’ to do so i can figure out some of these things.
I like the idea and i know how i would do it in 3D Studio, just need to figure if it can be done in SW. Basic motions etc i kind of have sussed but the ‘growing tentacle’ is a little more tricky…..I’ll ponder that with a cup of tea.

Excellent, thanks Kr155e, I have some stuff to be going on with there. You’re right about capturing footage from the emulator straight off the desktop, I’ll check Camtasia out.

Al, do you need a copy of 3DS? If you could export object files from Solidworks for use in 3DS you’d be away like a good’un. If you can animate in Solidworks, which I remember you telling me is difficult, I imagine it’s not a straightforward timeline/keyframing effort?

Yes the homebrew in the video was either taken from a youtube video or I recorded me playing threw reality boy πŸ™‚

In the tron part in the commercial you can easily see I used a videocamera because you can see the outside of my pc screen πŸ™‚

No worries Akumie, I have the emulator running nicely and sucked Camtasia down off the newsgroups last night…its gonna be a busy weekend πŸ™‚
