please let me know how they work! i am interested in ordering a set. i have a nice set already but it can’t be used on the vb, not without major modification to the bit, which would make it useless with the driver.

what i posted was not a complaint, it was constructive criticism. i thought that i had worded it as such, but evidently it seems that you read it quite differently. if you end up choosing to view my suggestions as complaints, then we aren’t going to be able to have a control-scheme discussion of any kind.

strafing is a gaming element that aids the play-ability of 1st person shooters (1st person perspective) games. it isn’t a required control scheme, and one that some will choose to embrace while others completely ignore it. for more than 10 years, the main control elements were on the only (left) d-pad (until the ps dual shock we never had dual d-pads/analog sticks), this is what a great majority of gamers are used to. as such, we have played countless hours of console and handheld first person shooters using shoulder buttons for strafing. i am only asking for you to keep this in mind.

you have quoted only my post, so i will only comment on my behalf… i am making suggestions in an attempt to better the project as a whole. my position is for the end result to be user friendly. providing a control scheme for which gamers are already equipped to pick-up-and-play seems to make a lot of sense to me. i felt that locking users into only 1 control scheme would put some minor limitations on the end result. please know that when i am passionate about a project, i will attempt to make a few good suggestions. if you choose to implement my idea, then great, if you don’t, then so be it. i am going to be appreciative of your work and enjoy the editor either way.

This is the first time I’ve seen this particular set, but apparently 58 people and counting have purchased them. They look slim just like the one I have, so there shouldn’t be any issue opening it up, and at $6.99 a pair, the price is right.

how deep are the deepest screws? those drivers are listed at “2.75 in shaft length”. i do believe the vb is just a tad thicker than that, but i’ve no idea how deep the screws are.

I looked into how the game handles the GamePad inputs. It took some time but I figured the basics out. This allowed me to change how the games handles strafing. Usually you had to press left or right on both d-pads at the same time to strafe. I changed it that way that the right d-pad turns the player while the left d-pad allows him to strafe. This is much more convenient.

It would be amazing if you were able to implement a way for us to map controls how we would want them. I have to agree with the comments above, I would much prefer that the controls were reversed, or even better, that the strafing was mapped to the trigger buttons. Movement with the right d-pad will be a bit awkward for myself. It’s not unlike trying to play two things with both hands on a piano, I find it difficult to coordinate both hands in a way I have never done before. My brain fights my muscles with each attempt, and I resort to recording the two parts separately. With gaming, I am simply more accustomed to moving with the left d-pad.

Thank you for all of your hard work. We are all looking forward to using your completed editor!

Any VB first purchased has security screws on them. If the screws are phillips head your VB has been opened.

Actually, all morintari said originally was “if the screws are phillips head your VB has been opened.”

It’s definitely a completely true statement. If you see Phillips-head screws in your VB, you can rest assured that your VB was opened and was likely worked on because the original screws were not Phillips-head screws. He didn’t mention anything beyond that.

that is your interpretation, not mine. i continue to read it that a “first purchased” (as in a new VB and/or never opened) has security screws and a “worked on” vb will not. as we have already discussed, that is not always the case.

any 2nd, 3rd, or 10th hand vb that has been put back together with the original screws could still have been worked on. so you can’t say that they have only been opened if they have replacement screws.

I found a picture of a nice-looking Virtual Boy jacket as I was searching for Virtual Boy stuff using Japanese words

that is a pretty nice looking jacket. if i bought one tomorrow i would wear it all the time. so, i’d need to find one for under $20 so i don’t feel bad when it falls apart. =P

once you trim a little off the plastic thing inside, its a very snug fit. sideways makes more sense, because now it opens like a book. there is also a place for some art if you take the time to trim it to the right size. i’m working on a case project using them and its turning out great. they are smaller than anything else, fit the game exactly, and provide room for art on the inside (where it won’t rub off).

Nice surprise about this shorter form. Can you tell us what it is you are talking/writing about?
Has any info. about this shorter form been posted before (and i just missed it)?

what are you saying? what is a shorter form? what are you talking/writing about?? has any info on what? i’m so confused.

LOL! you have got to be kidding me. I’ve been looking for a year. I tried every local place (clothing district, manufacturing district, electronic places, shipping warehouses, etc, etc, etc..) and no one had the right kind of foam!!

I do need it thicker than 3 inches. Is it possible to glue or adhere two blocks of foam together?

I see they have custom cases, but I’m not sure how I would go about that. I don’t have the skills to make a usable template for them.

these scans are great! thanks for sharing.

(12) Non-Working Nintendo Virtual Boy Headsets Only
Buy-it-Now for $72.

The shipping cost is rather ridiculousness. $217.15

Otherwise, it would be a rather cheap way to get some units that need a few ribbon cable fixes. He listed them all as having display “issues”.

most of my games do not have dust covers and they play just fine. if you are worried about it, store them in a box, package, bag, etc. a quick spray of some compressed air will solve any issues before you plug it into the vb.

i went to a local thrift shop and picked up a used camcorder for $9. it came inside a retro looking hard shell case. i ripped out the interior and now store my virtual boy and games in there. my goal is to eventually find the correct type of foam to place inside so that i can cut out the shapes i need to make it a complete case.

my point is, you can probably find a similar way to store your vb and games, away from dust, for under $10.

as a community. we really need to find a solution for donors. printed cases and such can take us pretty far, but what about connectors? if homebrew ever takes off and if reproduction carts get higher in demand, we are going to kill off a great chuck of usable carts.

i don’t see any info on the site. i’ve tweeted to him. someone could possibly email him as well. i also hope it wasn’t cancelled.

Got out the multimeter and tested all the ends to make sure they were ok, then threw it in my unit to give it a proper test. Yay, right display’s all clear! Wait a minute, the left side has a second mirrored image of everything now. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF~

did you ever solder the other side and did that fix the mirrored image you were seeing?

i’m sorry, i was confused by what you were doing. i though you were loading new sound files, i didn’t understand that you were changing where to start in the 1 file.

thunderstruck,
if you are able to change the stage audio, what about sound efx? i realize the game only has a handful of them, but it would be great if we could make custom sounds for running and the gun.

there are some stages of red alarm i like more than others, i use it for the stage select.

you need to patch the ips file to the rom. if you are on windows then i would recommend LunarIPS. its straight forward and simple to use. this will permanently alter your rom, so be sure to keep a backup.

Thanks a ton for taking the time to do that! =)
