great news. everyone really appreciates your hard work! thanks.
i flashed over fishbone about 12 hours ago and that high score is still there. it seems that when i flash a new rom that the save works, but if i leave that rom on there for an extended period of time that i eventually lose the save.
i really need to do a lot more debugging before i can actually say that my last statement is true. i’ll keep checking the cart of the next few days and see if it keeps the save.
It is a little less then a year since I replaced my battery. I haven’t used my VB at all over the past 8 months. I set it up tonight and found that my battery is once again not saving. I should have access to a meter tomorrow, and I’ll test to see what the voltage is. I can’t believe that the battery would be dead from being stored for the past 8 months, but then again, we do have extreme temperatures here. It was over 90 F most of the summer and now its around 40. I do not have central heart or air so everything here feels the environmental changes. Perhaps that has something to do with it?
i never cared to follow the virtual boy until a few years ago. i do recall playing one at a store at some point before the price drop. i even recall seeing games in bins for $5 each and watching as rental stores liquidated their stock, but for some reason the system just did not interest me back then. i didn’t read up on it, collect magazines about it, or follow it in the news. today, i continually read about it causing headaches, neck and back problems, yet i’ve never seen a single article cite a source. from my point of view, based on using the system and reading up on it for the past couple of years, these claims seem rather fabricated to me, based on the assumptions of modern writers. as a hobbyist of video game journalism, it upsets me.

The 3D stereoscopic goggles brought on headaches and nausea, the awkward headset caused sore necks and the monochrome red display led to eye strain. When Nintendo’s experiment with virtual reality – the Virtual Boy video game system – proved a commercial failure
this article opens with it and again does not cite a source or present that information as a quote.
they go on to say “the Virtual Boy was launched in 1995 but quietly shelved a year later amid reports of migraines and dizziness, apparently caused by excessive use.”
i would like to see some proof that the system was reported this way back in the mid 90’s. does anyone have any print articles they could scan that specifically mentioned these issues as a legitimate problem? can anyone recall any actual studies that proved this was an issue? in these regards, does anyone of this board feel sick while playing or experience muscle pain directly associated with the VB?
thanks a lot for the scan.
it looks like someone took the unfolded box posted here and printed it off as a larger size. if that is they case, that auction should be flagged and reported, if possible. they are passing off something for what it is not.
having 1 group obtain access to the ROM and not letting everyone else enjoy it is just as bad as having the proto and not sharing the ROM.
Either, release it for everyone to enjoy or keep on hoarding it.
Ben,
I’m working on a custom case project. Would it be possible to be provided with a high quality scan for the front of the FB+ box?
Thanks!
I am doing a little custom case project. I was hoping that it would be possible to be provided with a high quality scan of the front of the Space Pinball reproduction box?
Cheers!
ps1-ps3 controller. ps1 and ps2 can be connected to usb using a cheap $3-5 adapter. ps3 can be connected via bluetooth or usb using some software.
d-pad = left dpad
buttons = right dpad
select and start = b an a
L1 and R1 = the trigger buttons
L2 and R2 = select and start
it would be nice if someone built up a bunch of vb controller to usb adapters and sold them here. =)
Nintendo Game & Watch FAMICOM SUPER MARIO BROS Special Edition F1
i’ve watched this review a few times, this guy is pretty funny at moments. also, a great review.
it started out so strong and confusingly ended in a completely different spot. i thought it was going to be an article praising the VB for what it was, what it hoped to accomplish, how different it was, etc, but instead if was about how he failed to purchase one.
still, pretty cool that people continue to publish articles about the VB, even in 2013.
perhaps a dedicated reproduction service, like the one you guys got going on, will be enough to entice coders to polish and complete VB homebrew. a coding compo with the prize being your finished game on a repro cart would also benefit the vb homebrew scene!
if we had the ability to edit our posts hours, even years later, then the top post of each thread could be kept updated by a moderator. although i’m not sure that is something chris wants for the site. it just seems like it would be far less work then building dedicated areas for each game, hack, translation, reproduction, etc.
i would agree that it often starts a trend. i often see these trends happen in the comic industry following a death (either a creator or a character). the issues will spike in a falsely inflated bubble that pops as soon as it occurs, as 99% of the time the books are worth what they were before this tragedy occurred.
sometimes the inflated price happens by nefarious means. like when captain america died. according to our distributer at diamond distribution, they only had a small run of the book for distributers. this pointed to the fact that marvel intentionally published a smaller run of the book than the amount ordered 3 months ahead of time. the day it arrived we sold out of it by the afternoon, which is unheard of in a small shop. the next day the book was on eBay, we watched as one sold for over $1,000. a week later, marvel released another run of the book and the price dropped between $5-7 for a 9.5 grade.
if the consumer is not educated enough to make on the spot impulse buys then they should instead conduct a bit of research first. after all, this is an online auction. it stands to reason the person has internet access and hopefully 30 minutes of time to poke around using Google.
there are people who collect nothing but graded games. i’ve no idea if there is an official price guide, like the overstreet guide for comics. for all i know his prices are spot on or only slightly inflated.
i sold graded comics on ebay for 2 years. all of them were over 9.6 and some sold for 2-3K. sometimes its amazing what collectors will pay.

an area dedicated to the hacking of vb roms would be a nice addition. within that area you would make topics for each individual game. making sub forums to the hacking section for each game just seems a little much, it isn’t like we have a thriving vb hacking community (ie: romhacking.net). a few things here and there warrants a sub forum with topics and not much else.
are there plans to take reproductions past the 2 that are currently available? creating an entire section for them seems premature, unless there are plans the general planetvb community is not aware of.
