Thanks for making HF happening Ben. It truly is outstanding.
If you are selling anthers parties intellectual property that party is forced to to stop you as otherwise they could loose their copyright. That’s why HF is not being sold. There you have your X-File case solved.
It is very easy say people are being too careful if you are not the one who has to fear legal actions. Maybe if you contact the programmers and offer them to sell their game for them while taking all of the risk you can make a release happen.
Virtual Dodge Ball sounds like a pretty fun game.
Just in case someone actually cares. I went through my svn and checked when I committed code. I marked the dates on the attached calendar. This does not include conceptual and art work though.

Actually, I started the GameHero development almost exactly 3 years ago. I feels more like 4-5 though.

My gosh, at first this looked like a farewell post indeed.
Hah, that wasn’t the intention. I just feels like such a long time until I released something. So I wanted to show how my projects got bigger every time. I will most likely develop VB games until I die of old age. In the best case we got another 60-70 years.

Should we be able to figure out from your post?
No, there is nothing hidden there. But if you talked to me on the chat you might have figured something out. I’m sometimes a bit to talky.
The only rom that has been released is the demo from this thread: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5295&forum=2
From what I understand the development has been completed but there are concerns releasing it because of copyrights. You might want to contact Bigmak (http://www.planetvb.com/modules/usercenter/index.php?section=profile&uid=648) to get some more background. He also knows how to make potato salt by only using mayonnaise.
That actually does sound very simple. It depends a bit on the complexity of your animation but in general should not be a big deal.
I would suggest to grab the vbde (virtual boy development environment) from here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=30868#forumpost30868 and have a look at the demos.
There are some very basic (but also old) beginner demos here as well: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4089&forum=2
I also once published a tool that allows you to put together animations without doing much programming. It comes with an older version of vbde (you still have to put it into C:\vbde) The tool is still pre-alpha, poorly documented and I doubt anyone ever used it.
You have put all of your animation frames onto one 512×512 image. The tool will allow you to map your colors to red/black values, define sprites and animations and apply actions to them (like moving around).
You can find the tool here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=29439#forumpost29439
Here is a video showing it a bit: http://youtu.be/VK14AuZZoDc

4. If you keep your old code in there as a comment, you can compare the two while you implement #2 above.
subversion systems are great to have a histroy of your code. Basically, you commit your code to the subversion every time you add something and have a working state. The system keeps track of your changes and you can always go back to any version. You can even see what you changed when which makes tracking a bug back to it’s cause very easy.
If you want something easy for yourself svn will do the job.
You can use WinSVN for the server and tortoisesvn as a client. If you want to have many branches and coordinate your work with others git is the way to go.

Or did you mean $16k, thunder?
If that would have been the case we would all be playing Virtua Boy Cop by now and I would drive a new car.
bigmak wrote:
He lies 😛 it was 16 dollars and some bbq sauce.
I actually found a store selling that sauce. But it costs 4 times the US price.
bigmak once offered me $16 if I would make VirtuaCop for Virtual Boy.

I always though Tempest would be great on VB. Maybe one day I will make it now that Greg’s lib is there.

Those are pretty cool already. Good work.
One day I will make a Wario Editor so you can make a sequel.
Happy New Year everyone!
I have a feeling the 20th Anniversary will be great. My game is on a good way, even though I only worked a couple of days on it during the last two month.

Has there been any speculation on why Birdo got cut? Perhaps it would have driven the size of the cart up to 8 MB and Nintendo didn’t want all that extra wasted space?
I don’t think it was a space was a problem. As e5frog pointed out 4 years ago there is plenty left. Most likely they just needed to get it done.

Nice of you to ask. Yes, you can. It’s a bit tricky as you can not see your bat but it is possible.Cool! I figured such.
So… have you been thinking of creating your own character sprite and filling in the missing 8th character?
The idea came to my mind but I don’t think I will do it. Seems to be allot of work for putting him back.
Another funny thing I noticed is that when you go to tournament mode the game actually displays a question mark as the player image. This is because it is at that position on the bgmap. I didn’t see the question mark being used anywhere else but I didn’t pay attention either. If you progress, and the game shows the the happy/sad animation of your character the box will be empty as those spots on the map are empty as well.
I attached a modded rom. You can pick any character and it will always be Glitcho. Just in case someone wants to have a look.

I was looking though the rom and figured out how the players are loaded. I eventually managed to load every character by manipulating the ram. Sadly, loading anything else then the existing players leads to a buggy mess.If you want to you can say I managed to load MissingNo’s ugly brother.
Wait… so can you actually successfully play a round of tennis using the buggy mess character? If so, that is cool enough for me!
Nice of you to ask. Yes, you can. It’s a bit tricky as you can not see your bat but it is possible.
And… after playing one round against the opponent in spot 7 (one more then possible) it actually shows Cassarin as the opponent name on the result screen. Missed that before. Every other illegal spot would only generate a buggy screen which is not that surprising.

It seems Chader got removed before the character screen got remodeled. Have a look at this beta screenshot, the template fits.
Ahhh… that explains it.

How about a trainer patch?
What would you want the patch to do? The game is relatively easy to hack. They keep allot data in code instead of using datastructures though.
