NOTE: For those who are contemplating making their FlashBoy+ Carts complete with a box, quick reference card, and high quality cart sticker, please note the following:
The cart stickers that I still have in stock were already printed off by Krisse a long time ago, and it was assumed that they would be placed on the standard Virtual Boy cart shells, which Richard used to use when he made his FlashBoy Plus Carts. Richard has recently been making his own cart shells with a “FlashBoy+” text that isn’t nicely covered by these cart stickers (see first attachment for an example of a recently-made FlashBoy+ Cart).
Also, the backs of the FlashBoy Plus boxes, which I still have in stock, contain pictures of the old versions of the FlashBoy Plus carts, which used the standard Virtual Boy cart shells (see second attachment). Thus, the most recent carts that Richard has been making don’t nicely match up with the boxes that I still have in stock.
Please keep all of this in mind if you are still deciding to purchase a FlashBoy Plus Box with the various inserts from me. Essentially, the cart stickers and boxes that I have are now outdated, and they won’t go perfectly well with your new FlashBoy+ Cart.

Super Contra. I must have quick saved and loaded at least 100 just to beat that game.
Yeah, I definitely plan to try that game out sometime. The Contra games usually frustrated me with their difficulties.
Lately, I have been playing “Perfect Bowling,” a game that was originally only released in Japan for the NES/Famicom, and it is the hardest bowling video game I have ever played. The timing to get your desired bowl is so ridiculous. Getting a perfect 300 score in this game might be nearly impossible for me. This one is way harder than Nester’s Funky Bowling.

Cool, I haven’t seen these Vertical Force/Panic Bomber and Red Alarm/T&E Virtual Golf advertisements before, great find! That magazine seems to be a Famitsu spin-off or something, as they share the same mascot?
Nice how they managed to mess up the colors of the Virtual Pro Baseball artwork and print the Jack Bros screenshot upside down. 😀
Something I found amusing is that on Page 4, it shows that I’Max was going to release a game, whose title was yet to be determined, but then on page 28, it shows the title of Insmouse No Yakata.
Yeah, I really love the add for Vertical Force/Panic Bomber. That alone made the less than $30.00 purchase of the magazine (most of which comprised shipping costs from Japan) worthwhile.
From what I can determine, this magazine, if it were given an English title, would be called:
デジタリアン
Digitalian: TV-Game & Multi Media World Catalogue
And this particular issue is the:
’95夏季特集号
’95 Summer Special Issue
Yeah, that’s the one thing I did look up on the internet, in order to see if I got the best ending. The difference between the best ending and the second best ending is so small that one might not notice the difference. In the second best ending, which occurs by beating the game in between 1 to 3 hours (a reasonable challenge), Samus is wearing what looks like just a one-piece swimming suit, but some say it is technically a leotard. Then, in the best ending, which the internet says occurs if you beat the game in under an hour, she is wearing a bikini, which is just slightly less clothes than the leotard (you can now see her stomach). With my run, I can beat it in just under 50 minutes, but not reliably, as small mess-ups here and there will result in extremely frustrating deaths.
I DID IT!
I just got the best ending in Metroid for NES for the first time ever! Beat it in under an hour and got to see Samus in her bikini.
I did it as old-school as you can get, too. Never resorted to any maps or playthroughs online. Played the game entirely from scratch for hours and hours, drew my own map of everything as I discovered everything for the first time, mapped out a streamlined route to the end, never used a save state, and still finally after many fails…
VICTORY IS MINE!!!
Getting the best ending is definitely one of the hardest challenges for NES that I’ve experienced so far.
This ebay seller is ridiculous!!! He has been trying to sell his virtual boy stuff on the bay for at least 7-8 years now….if his items don’t sell then he just jacks the price up even higher…it’s like he doesn’t want to sell enything, but instead just wants to display his collection on ebay…
I myself have thought the same thing about this seller. Another thing I’ve thought, though, is that maybe people keep contacting him and telling him directly that his prices are ridiculously high, and then, in a rage, he thinks to himself: “Oh yeah? Well I’ll show you!” And that’s why the non-selling items’ prices keep rising. Otherwise, yeah, he’s just afraid that the items might accidentally sell at some point, and he’ll lose his eBay collection display.
I remember reading somewhere that 5 years old is a safe age to begin viewing stereoscopic 3D, and I figured Nintendo upped it to 7 just to help avoid lawsuits.
I actually don’t think I’ve ever had an enemy fall for the ambush attack. I suppose that if it kills the enemy without you being harmed at all, then it might be a good move to try out when the opportunity arises. I don’t know how strong the ambush attack would be if it actually worked.
If I recall correctly, the ambush attack is essentially a silly move that should never be made. I can’t remember exactly how it works off hand, but you either 1) move yourself right in front of an object (any obstacle that isn’t an enemy) in the playing field and perform the ambush attack during that same move, or else you 2) move yourself in front of an object at the end of your move and then perform the ambush attack during your next move while staying there. In either case, no ambush attack will be performed unless an enemy unit moves close to you during the next move. Thus, if you perform an ambush attack, it will never attack during the move in which you tell it to occur, and you have to rely on the enemy coming close to you during the enemy’s next move, in order for the attack to “ambush” the enemy automatically and unexpectedly. Of course, if no enemy moves close to you during the next move, then you have to sit there and do nothing for your next move and keep the ambush attack in effect, thereby wasting the move, if you want to wait and possibly perform the ambush the next time, again only if an enemy sets itself up for it. And if you move your character at all after setting the ambush attack, it cancels the attack, even if you never got to see it automatically attack an unsuspecting enemy. It is probably the worst move in the game, while the indirect attack is by far the best and cheapest move in the game.
Yes, it’ll be a ROM hack with 45 new levels, each level map looking like something related to Halloween or All Hallows’ Eve. I’ll be using HorvatM’s InsmEdit 1.2 program to create it.
I myself have never been able to get ending A. I do believe, however, that PVB User: DogP wrote on here that he was able to get that best ending. He got the best ending or really high scores in a lot of Virtual Boy games.
I, too, really enjoy Mansion of Insmouse, and I am still planning to release my “All Hallows’ Eve” edition, hopefully this year.

Cool!
Yeah, the problem happens for me, too, if I try to click on any link on that page, regardless of whether I am logged into the site or not.
For now, if you want to see the results, while you are logged into the site, copy and paste the title of a specific poll from the poll list into the search bar of the site and select the option that you want to search for that poll in the Forum only. When you find the forum, you should be able to see the results at the top of its specific forum thread. If you are not logged into the site when you attempt this, you shouldn’t be able to see the results.
There is currently no means for PVB members to rate the game on this site, like they can with the original prototype game or with homebrew games, so searching the internet for reviews is about the only way to find out what others might think of it. I think that most will agree that there is certainly a lot more to the remastered version than the original prototype, so more levels, more enemies, and a much higher difficulty challenge. So if you like the prototype version and just want more to the game, then the remastered version might be just right for you! (That’s my quick, biased opinion of it, since I designed half of the new levels in the remastered version.)

I shipped it out today. What skeeved me out is the UPS and USPS both quoted $20 to ship the box from PA -> CA. Couldn’t believe it was that much for a 12x12x6″ box. How do Ebay sellers do it so cheap?
For future reference, you might want to try out the flat-rate box option for USPS shipments that are small but heavy.
According to this page:
https://www.easypost.com/usps-flat-rate-boxes-and-pricing.html
One medium flat rate box that is 11 1/4″ x 8 3/4″ x 6″ will cost you $11.95 to ship it anywhere in the USA, regardless of the weight. I don’t know off hand if the VB head unit will fit in that very easily, but they say that if it fits, it ships, so even if the box has to be distorted a little for a bubble wrapped head unit to be shipped, it should still ship for that price.
I’ve also seen eBay sellers use the Media Mail service to ship non-qualifying items to me, which is criminal, but the items made it to me nonetheless, and the Ebay sellers certainly saved a lot on shipping costs.
Use this link to find the ROM:

The easiest thing to do to find any games posted on this site, which aren’t included in the site’s main Games section, is to browse through the “News Archives” under the “NEWS” link.

I bought a new one with display problems for $60. I don’t feel like investing the time only to be let down again, so I’m thinking about sending it to a guy on ebay to repair it.Only thing is – he told me he doesn’t use the solder method or the oven method… but he guarantees his repair for the life of the thing (or until he hops off ebay).
Anybody have a guess on what this repair method could be?
The price is right at $30 + $10 shipping.
If you do decide to have the eBay seller fix it, it would be great if you could open up the Virtual Boy and take pictures of the displays when you get it back, which would help to determine what method he used to fix them.
The seller says that if you ever have problems with it again, he’ll fix it again for free, so it doesn’t sound like too much of a risk to me, especially given his overwhelmingly large positive feedback.
